This reminds me of a slightly less harmless prank I pulled on my dad years ago. I took a screenshot of his computer, then I moved all of his shortcuts from his desktop somewhere else. Then I created new shortcuts for Internet Explorer and my computer that looked like them and were named the same but we're actually batch files that initiated a shutdown of the computer. I put those both on the desktop and also in the start menu. So, in effect, when he went to his computer everything looked normally but when he tried to click on an icon it either wouldn't do anything or it would shut down the computer. It didn't take him long to realize who did it and I fixed it within minutes. No permanent harm done.

This makes me want to use a Mac just to see this program in action. What a clever White Hat style way to show that yes, the OS that supposedly is invulnerable to viruses is in fact just ad vulnerable to exploits, glitches, and viruses as any other OS, if the coder of the program knows what they are doing. It's a program that not only teaches computer safety and shows what the Mac is capable of, it also points out vulnerabilities.

Yep, I've heard of people believing that only Windows can get viruses and I'm just like, nope. Malware can exist for any system and Windows, OSX, and Linux all have existing malware. It's just the majority of malware is made for Windows cause of the large userbase. If by some magic everyone all of a sudden switched to OSX or a Linux distro, we'd see a lot more malware for those systems. I know there's a lot of people who already know what I stated above, so I do apologize for preaching to the choir, but hopefully this will help reach those who aren't part of the choir as it'll help clear up some misconceptions with the more people that this message reaches.

At same time, has solved the problem of not needing learning to use. And every year or a few, you get a new release, made even more horrible for sake of change, making even more learning challenge.

I would probably have instantly cut the power to the computer, and booted with some kind of a live cd and hope that the virus hadn’t deleted all my files, that was pretty much common practice on PC’s if you suspected that you had activated a virus. So any work that I hadn’t saved would’ve been lost with this joke program. So it did have the risk of causing damage depending on how the user responded to it.

So when this came out I was in Junior High at the time and my older brother had told me about it. Not sure if they still have classes like it anymore, but we had what was more or less a "computer literacy" class where students would learn basics of typing, making slideshows, etc. that was required for everyone to take. My brother had me take a flash drive to school with this "virus" on it. We had the old desktop Macs that everyone growing up in the 90's/early 00's remember. My teacher had stepped out of the room and I put it on her computer. As she was teaching her lesson it happened and she started freaking out while all the students were cracking up. This would be my worst nightmare. I was and honestly still am TERRIFIED of computer viruses. My ex got a ton of viruses on his laptop when we were in college. From flashing screens to noises playing. Its my worst nightmare. This joke would probably just kill me.

wait macbooks had a motion sensor?! im suprised cuz why would u use a motion sensor on a computer lol
@JaxxKinson36213 жыл бұрын
Back in those old days, computers usually used hard drives, and not ssds. Since hard drives use a lot of moving parts, the motion sensors were used to detect falls, and attempt to park the hard drives moving parts, preventing damage.
@tookitogo2 жыл бұрын
Apple called it the Sudden Motion Sensor, and it was introduced in the 2005 aluminum PowerBook G4, for precisely the reason Michael LaCasse said.

I got this virus that would randomly open links at certain intervals, mainly a huge flashing image of jeff the killer which scared tf out of me as a little kid, it also let the person send me chats and do whatever they want with my computer, i eventually had to factory reset it

There is, or at least was, a screenshot program for Mac OS X that would actually output a layered Photoshop file, where everything that could be separated was. It’s because, in Mac OS X, a programmer can use “windows” for things much smaller than an actual window. It’s also important to understand that Mac OS X’s windowing system, Quartz, operates very much like Photoshop layers, where each window is a graphics object independent of the others, with the final alpha-blended compositing into a bitmap of the screen being done at the very end of the pipeline (in the GPU in all but the earliest versions). One of the Quartz debug tools shows the list of windows at the graphics driver level. So the layered screenshot app would simply capture each “window” object in Quartz (with its attached drop shadow layer) and save it as a Photoshop layer. Newton would be doing the same.

0:13 So macs have accelerometers!? Since you can tilt the Mac with crashed os to swirl the icons.
@nationsquid3 жыл бұрын
They do! The older MacBook models (and this program on the older models) apparently used the accelerometer on the hard disk drives if I remember correctly, but I would have to double check on that. :)

@@nationsquid ah that makes sense since hard dirks stopped spinning when dropped, so that’s probably the sensor that is used here.
