Totally agree. His version is the best. Also, "Lawyers, Guns & Money" and "Excitable Boy" are great as well as "Desperadoes Under the Eaves", "Roland, the Headless Thompson Gunner," "Ain't That Pretty at All," "Mohammed's Radio." I could go on and on. He was VERY underrated. Great stuff. Love his music.

A few fun facts. 1. Linda's backing band became the Eagles. 2. Linda was close with a bunch of other California artists including the Eagles, Jackson Browne, J.D. Souther, and Warren Zevon. 3. Linda performed backing vocals on Warren Zevon's "Excitable Boy". 4. This song is a Warren Zevon song - one of a few of his that Linda covered. 5. Warren Zevon was the greatest musical poet of the 20th century. Well, that's opinion.

Linda Ronstadt is one of greatest female vocalist ever! (She is the greatest in my book) 😊. You should listen to more of her 70’s hits. Amber you’ll love her cover of Smokey Robinson’s Ooh Baby Baby. She made it her own and it was a big hit for her. It also has a killer sax solo. Heatwave was another r&b cover she knocked out of the park. Someone to lay down beside me is a lesser known hit but she manages to tear your heart out.

The wry humor of the song is because it was written and first recorded by Warren Zevon. Linda rewrote the last verse because she couldn't sing the original lyrics which dealt with a woman who was into bdsm. I have to say, as much as I enjoy and admire Warren, I prefer Linda's version both lyrically and musically. The best and most profound life advice I ever heard came from Warren's last appearance with David Letterman. He knew he was dying and didn't have much time left. Dave asked him something like if he had gained any insight from the situation. Warren replied, "Enjoy every sandwich." Of course what he was saying was to live in the moment and to enjoy life's simple pleasures. It was the most poignant and intimate thing I ever witnessed.

She's super diverse, but you don't know the half of it. Check out Linda on Broadway, doing Pirates of Penzance (Light Opera) or any of her three Great American Songbook albums with super-arranger Nelson Riddle, which have a strong jazz flavor. You think that being the best at folk, country, rock and Mexican traditional music is amazing? It is, but there's more!

Linda Ronstadt can sing a phone book. Everything she sings sounds great. I was fortunate to see Linda Ronstadt in concert 3 times. Rock , Mexican, and Standards with Nelson Riddle and his orchestra . Boy, when she sang the standards and reached those high, notes my ears vibrated. She has a powerful voice . I also saw her when she went on tour to talk about her book she wrote. I know there are a ton of songs that can be covered because anything Linda ever touched was golden. Seeing Amber's enthusiasm and love for the many sides of Linda, I have to suggest two songs: "I Never Will Marry" which is a heart wrenching love song that features Dolly Parton singing full on harmony with Linda. The other song is a cover of Warren Zevon's "Carmelita" which is a heart breaking song about addiction to heroine and a cry for help from a loved one. Both are amazing and neither of you will be disappointed. Typical Ronstadt brilliance.

For more of the Country side of Linda Ronstadt try "Silver Threads and Golden Needles". Yes, Linda was a pioneer in Country Rock and put together the Eagles as her backing band for a few shows before they went on their own. The most versatile singer of the 20th Century hands down. She also had a Country trio with Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris that was very successful during her Spanish era of the late 80's.

Try Linda's Nelson Riddle period. Skylark, 'Round Midnight...Operetta, Poor Wandering One. Or, Adios, Feels Like Home....sad news that was just revealed in a Tuscon paper. Linda recently got Covid twice. She lost her speech and hearing. She has regained her speech but the hearing loss may be permanent. Linda has suffered so many health problems in the past 25 years, it is heartbreaking. But, she stays strong.

Terri Clark covered that in the 90s. You recently had a video of her.

You still haven't heard her croon. She recorded 3 albums with Frank Sinatra's arranger, Nelson Riddle and they are a must listen. Some suggestions: "What's New", "Someone To Watch Over Me" or "When You Wish Upon A Star"

Now Linda is my favorite vocalist of all time, male or female, and it is partly because of her beautiful voice and partly because of her versatility of moving from one genre of music to another. You mentioned several here but did you know that she also did light opera on Broadway and in the movie version of 'The Pirates of Penzance' as the character, Mabel, and the song that most of us remember was "Poor Wandering One"; and then she also did three albums of 1930's and 40's American Standards from the big band and swing music era, and my favorite song for those was "What's New". And yes she also did Folk, Country, Blues, Jazz, Rock, Great Love Ballads, and music for movie soundtracks and then also Mexican Traditional music. She could do it all seemingly. It's a real shame that she lost her beautiful voice to her disease but at least we still have her recordings and videos. My favorite vocalist still singing today is Floor Jansen from Nightwish who is another one that can seemingly sing whatever she wants to sing no matter the genre. But my first love will always be Linda!

Jay and Amber, isn't it great when you know the kids are being introduced to good music? I work in a government office, and they have a child care office on the first floor. One day we had a fire alarm go off and they had all the kids out in front of the post office next door, and they were singing Rockin’ Robin, and ABC! Somebody's parents or social workers are doing a good job with training those kids with good music. And I probably already posted about the shopping trip where Smokey Robinson and the Miracles' song “You Really Got a Hold on Me" was playing on the PA system, and a little girl was singing along with it, and she couldn't have been more than eight or nine. I'm pushing 60 and that song is older than me! 😄 Keep sharing the good stuff with your kids! 😀

You can never go wrong with Linda! Great choice, love that guitar outro by Waddy Wachtel. Another couple of great songs by early '80s Linda to check out: The rocker "Get Closer," and the deeply soulful "Easy For You To Say," both from 1982.

Warren Zevon wrote the song - his stuff is usually funny and dark. Or darkly funny.
