As a Zona fan, none of us are gonna hate this guy, living near SF, it sounds like Giants fans are scared to death of LA'S whole roster, even the minors. Farm system ratings: LA 8 SF last Wait what happens if LA is healthy, they will finish 35 games ahead of the Giants

@@DublRR91 Yeah, but I'd rather win with drafted players the organization selects vs other team's franchise players that L.A. had to buy because they are trash at finding and drafting their own franchise players. The only that is good that was drafted is C. Kershaw, and yet he was the biggest choker ever in history of baseball. THAT IS WHAT L.A. is. Chokers who decided that it was easier to buy the championship instead of building it. Losers. Just like the Yankees.

It’s coming folks. Giants are about to have another serious run and this young man is one of the big factors and Posey’s leadership is another. Don’t love Melvin but hey you can’t have everything go Giants!!

@@JB-sb5phI'm convinced a lot of Melvins (and Kaplers) questionable decisions came by the direction of Farhan or some office analytic head. I say give Melvin one more year or 2. We got Chapman and Adames locked up for a long time. We're waiting on Corbin right now and with Eldridge probably making his debut sometime this year ? If we don't substantially improve with Farhan gone, then yes let's move on from Melvin but I got some confidence in him
@danielspodcastseries

Eldridge needs to be on the spring training roster. In 2010, the Giants waited 2 months before calling up Buster Posey and it worked out better than anybody could imagine. Posey was in the minor leagues for a little over a year and a half.

One big correction here about Reggie Crawford and Bryce Eldridge’s 2-way statuses. When Crawford was drafted in 2023, the Giants had every intention of playing him as a 2-way player. He hit in his debut short-season, since he was recovering from TJ surgery, but got shut down in late August after just ten games. In 2023, he came back, and it got weird. He hit one game in late May, then began pitching for about two months, took more at-bats in three games in June, and then didn’t hit again until August 10th, when he appeared to injure himself and was out for the season. They put him in the AFL as a hitter, with some rumors it was to convince him that he could not hit to keep up with other pro hitters, and he struggled. But the plan by early 2024 was for him and the newly-drafted Eldridge to be 2-way players, with Crawford saying so in a FanGraphs interview…until early February, when he had an injury setback in spring training. By then, the Giants decided for him (despite the niceties in interviews) that Reggie would only be a pitcher going forward. The news on Eldridge dropped only a couple of weeks later. The word I got was that the Giants moved him to first base because they thought he would move faster there. But that was only decided in Spring of 2024, and the timing suggested the change came from the way Crawford was unable to handle both ways and kept getting injured, and the Giants leadership didn’t want that again. I don’t particularly disagree with them on that point. But Bryce took it like a champ and had a great season, although he did have one minor injury running the bases in Modesto early in the year.

I’m always very skeptical of really tall players. Most of the time they end up having a major hole in their swing that shows up when they get into the bigs.

This is exactly what the Giants have needed. I’m hoping his trajectory is similar to Buster’s. The Giants have a good young core so I’m hoping Melvin can get the job done. If not, we just might need to bring back Bochy.

I certainly hope Eldridge does turn out to be a great player, but honestly I'm a little skeptical of all the hype. For somebody who's essentially all about his hitting, his numbers above high-A haven't been all that good. Obviously he's only 19, and he was up at AA and AAA for a total of only 17 games, but it's not like he's instantly set the world on fire at those levels. He's also got to make sure that K-rate doesn't creep up as he faces better pitching (it's been consistently around 25% at all levels). Still, we'll see how he does at 20. If this is just the beginning of how he develops, then I can see where the hype is coming from.

If you would care to think before you comment: Bryce Eldridge is 19 years old. In my searching, I have found 4 players who were 19 or younger that played in Double AA Eastern League, where Eldridge played. The only player with a higher OPS than him was Samuel Basallo, who had 400 more plate appearances to get adjust to it (and Eldridge is younger, though I admit by a marginal amount). Additionally, judging a player on a 40 plate appearance sample doesn't make any sense, though your entire comment has that problem.

Well, it all looks good, but let's put on the brakes a bit. He's not even 20 yet. Big league pitching is an entirely different animal. When he finally makes it, expecting a 30/100 guy is a tall order, odds are against it. A more realistic view is someone who can get on base, hit 15-25 hrs and play a gold glove 1st base. Odds are he'll be that guy rather than a Mongo masher type guy. But...in case he does become Mongo, I have no problem with that either :)
