Very informative and interesting! I never knew this part of Muhammad Ali's story. I was particularly moved that Paul Harvey started out with his birth (and a hospital mix-up!). His mama knew her baby! Maybe he took after her in standing his ground since she wasn't going to be convinced the baby was hers when she knew he *wasn't*. Nobody could gaslight this lady!

I love that picture at the end of Paul's and rest of the story of young beautiful Muhammad Ali you can see it in his eyes and in the way he stands he was made for greatness he will always float like a butterfly and sting like a bee and not because his name was Cassius Clay but because he represented Muhammad Ali

I always liked watching interviews of Muhammad Ali. As a child, I was surprised to see that he had a humorous side. :)

I always admired Howard Cosell because he was the first tv announcer to call him Muhammed Ali

Thanks Brad. I let that part of my youth go by watching WWW. Yes, there were Coloreds in the system, but the overall theme of the matches centered around the SPORT of Wrestling. At one venue I found myself pounding on the shoulders of the Black woman sitting directly in front of me. (actually, the entire auditorium was standing by this time), so I shouted "sorry!" and she just smiled! During those times in the sixties sports pretty much erased the color thing for us teenagers. I think that some of our (white southern kids) problems with Clay was that he threw his American/English name away for a different religion than our country was based on. Just my memory of that era, you see. Thanks Brad! Loved the content! And I did NOT expect that ending!🙄 edit: I went back to check out the next alert and discovered "greatest" in your title. Keep hanging in there!

Hehehehe. The Greatest in the title was just a special touch I added. I'm glad you caught that. I'm glad hearing this brought back fond memories that you shared with us. I've never been to a wrestling or boxing match. I think I may be missing out. :)

It is my understanding _{legally}_ your name is whatever you wish to call yourself (hence actors for centuries having _stage names_ just as an example) as so long as you aren't attempting to defraud or use said name for illegal/immoral purposes.
@BradDison
@BradDison Жыл бұрын
In Louisiana, you can adopt a "stage" name but it is not your legal name. You can't take out a loan, open a bank account, file taxes, etc. with anything other than your legal name. You can go through the legal steps to officially change your legal name, but that's an arduous process because they have to investigate your original legal name and determine if there is any angle on why you want to change the name. :)

I'm not going to get into a big standoff with anyone about his motives but I think you need to do more research before you start spouting off nonsense that you heard from somebody that heard from somebody you know some young superstars use the war to their advantage and they joined up only to get recognition and they were never put in the front lines or even close to any battle and Mohamed did not want to partake in any of that he was a true patriot he just didn't believe in killing people over land disputes he was a great ambassador for the United States

He changed it years before Vietnam. However, that was the reason he would not fight in Vietnam. :)

@@BradDisonHe beat Ken Norton twice but in reality he only won one of the three fights. I saw the last one and though I wanted him to win I knew Norton had beat him. The crowd knew it and so did Norton but Ali got the decision. Imo Marciano and Louis were better.

@BradDison

He was convicted in June 1967 of "refusing to be inducted into military service. It definitely should be remembered. Although I didn't cover this in my spiel, we must remember the positive history as well as the negative. :)

He was so hard to find that the government scoured all four corners of the earth and still came up empty, right? If they had really wanted to force the issue by making an example out of him or something they could have done so at any time. You do the math. 🤨
