I hate when idiots say this. No, it's a football game. Just because there's high scoring and lots of big plays doesn't mean it's not football. People need to get used to games not being 17-13 every game. Those days died in the 70s. Stop thinking conservatively. Coaches and players adapted a long time ago so they can score more points, fans should too.

Could have gotten 500 if he played the whole game
@RyanKaufman6 жыл бұрын
The fact that they let him get to 400 is a lot. I mean, every play he runs he risks an injury, even if that's a small risk. You play your man and he tears an ACL on an "oops" well you just became enemy number one and it's your fault your guy is hurt. This also ruins Gordon's chance at the life he wants, he doesn't get to the NFL realistically (he's great but tearing your ACL before the NFL normally means you're never signed) and he also ruins the college season because fucking STAVE was goddamn useless. I totally get sitting the dude after they had handily won and he had the record he knew he could at least get to.
@anthonymachingo46436 жыл бұрын
RyanKaufman He would have gotten signed lol. Todd Gurley was drafted higher than Gordon and he tore his acl. You think a team wouldnt rehab Gordon if they got a chance with his talent over the 250 picks in the draft? That being said they were right to rest him.
@RyanKaufman6 жыл бұрын
Gurley was and is better than Gordon. What he does is not "normal" which is why I prefaced it that way. Melvin is great, but he's not Gurley potential freak. Gurley was always going to get signed barring a freak career ender. Gordon was a shoe in for getting signed but if he was injured significantly, that might have changed. It's a solid "might" because we just don't know for sure. You never know each game what's going to happen, if your player walks away healthy and you won the game, you did your job as a coach. Part of making sure both of those flags are checked is to not pad stats. The only reason Gordon was allowed here was because he was getting crazy breakaways that launched his numbers up without much risk (less downs played = less injury percentage) And again, maybe he gets injured and signs anyway at a slightly lower number. Could happen. He could also never quite recover - he could go the Jahvid Best route of permanently prone to injury following a severe injury (RG3 also comes to mind). Injuries are simply unknown variables. Sometimes you're AP, you get an ACL tear and you say "Damn that sucks for a few months" then come back as though it never happened. Sometimes you get an ACL tear and years later it's still keeping you from your potential. As a coach, when you're this in the lead, you gotta keep your guy from finding out which side of the fence he's on.
@anthonymachingo46436 жыл бұрын
RyanKaufman No it's a solid "Melvin is getting taken before the 5th round instead of in the first two." Melvin is an incredible talent. He has been incredible thus far, especially after a dissapointing rookie year. He rebounded and has been a game changer for the Chargers. And if you think that a team wouldnt risk say, a 4th rounder for Melvin's talent if he got hurt, then youd be stupid. If Melvin got hurt in 2014, and I already knew what he could do( so what he did his college career is what I'm referring to, which is a lot) any GM would take that potential in a heartbeat. And again. Never said I disagreed. He was rightfully benched for injury purposes, but had he been injured, it would not have changed the fact he would be drafted. If it was an ACL tear like Gurley, yes his stock slips. But no one truly knows how much. We just know some team you'd take a chance on his talent and potential.
