Religions objective is to keep the mass under ignorance so that it is easy to exploit them. Prince + Priest collude in this right from the beginning to make laws to punish people who don't agree. Cultivation of mind should be a priority and it happens only when one reads widely, which is the tool to get out of conditioning. Human mind basic quality is curiosity and raising questions to understand. This very basic qualities of human mind is made numb by religion. Reading only brings back these qualities, as one reads the mind boils, it reverses the dormant, hybernating mind. It throws the questions and then dialog happens in one's mind, this is the road to evolve to true wisdom. Education happens only after one finishes all exam oriented reading and starts reading for the answers one is searching. My suggestion for people who wants to start reading is As man thinketh by James Allen.

Well said sir, Exactly my thoughts and what is needed in today’s india. To see religions tentacles still so widespread and with a stronghold over people’s mind it’s truly haunting. People don’t realise true knowledge does not come from passing exams and graduating, true knowledge comes from learning the right things. Reading is something missing from today’s youth which must be cultivated in abundance. PS: book suggestion for starters , demon haunted world by Carl Sagan, Case for reason by narendra dabholkar.

From time immemorial, man's greatest quest throughout all the ages has been to find the God who created him. Man knows deep in his heart that in finding God he will also find the true meaning to life. People find things to disapprove God’s existence; still they get something but no evidence with love, joy, and peace in its ultimate search.

St. Augustine (a fourth century philosopher who later became a Christian ) himself pondered over how light could be created before the sun was created. He did offer an explanation and many have put forth several explanations on this question. Not sure what she means by saying that you couldn't question the scriptures when many christian philosophers do so even today. Now if you're automatically going to bring up Galileo as the counter example, I'd urge you to dig deeper. There's more to the story than the usual sound bites floating around.

@Kurmi Nachle Hi - I just looked up Sanal's profile and the events surrounding this issue. Here is what I've been able to find. 1. Sanal fled to Finland after exposing a supposed miracle at a local church in Mumbai. He then accused the church of being anti-science and manufacturing miracles like these to make money. 2. Although many people believed it to be a miracle, the church had never claimed that the dripping water was a miracle and that Sanal's accusations was baseless. The church demanded an apology and a withdrawal of his statements, threatening legal action against him. 3. The Catholic Church of Mumbai, in its press release, has said that the FIRs were filed by groups of individuals offended by his statements and it was not their doing. 4. When charges under section 259a of the Indian Penal Code, that deals with “deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings” were made in police stations, Sanal filed for and was denied anticipatory bail. 5. Unfortunately in blasphemy cases, the police could arrest him without any investigation and jail him until his trial, which would take years. This risk he did not want to take, and so he left for his European lecture tour earlier than scheduled. Facing the prospect of arrest upon return to India, Edamaruku was forced into exile in Finland where he still lives. So from what I can gather, he exposed a miracle (which the Church did not endorse or officially comment upon) and then accused the Church for being anti-science and manufacturing miracles. My point is that people like Sanal are free and have been free to expose such alleged miracles (or non miracles) which again is contrary to what the lady in the video was saying about not being able to question anything (reference to her comment on how could light be created before the Sun was created). I personally feel that people like Sanal are good for society in exposing sham. However it looks like Sanal starts with the presupposition that all religions are the same (they're not) and exist primarily to dupe innocent people for money. Sanal should have just stopped at exposing the alleged miracle for what it is (not a sham but a consequence of clogged drain pipes and capillary action) and not gone to the point of making accusations which were unnecessary and unsubstantiated. A deeper reading of history will attest that not all religions were closed to scientific inquiry.

We need more videos of Periyar followers in english, the hope is that some video wil get very viral and get popular in the western world. The first generation migrants to the west from india are mostly Brahmins and they have propagated a very wrong view of how hinduism is great and totally hidden the evils of hinduism. In order to break that it is important the Periyar's social reform message has to be reached through viral videos first among Atheists(Richard Dawkins followers primary) and then later to general population.

Evolution is usually described as 'the struggle for survival', but this seems like an odd way to phrase it. The only life form on the planet concerned with 'survival' is Homo Sapiens; others have no concept of death or of survival. The primary motivation of all life, however, is to consume nourishment to satisfy hunger (in whatever form). We call it 'hunger', but it is just the impetus to consume nourishment, and all life forms have that. If there is a struggle, it seems to be more a struggle to find food and also to protect the food source you find against all usurpers.

Mam What if as a creationist I agree to the domestication and pollination examples you gave and still be a creationist? Through out the talk there wasn't any mention about origin which is the key between Creationist and an evolutionist. You did mention at one instance about 500 billion years ago and hence we cannot know. But still lacked the evolutionists answer to the origin. Take the argument to the more early stage mam. All the examples you gave are of only some centuries in chronology. Will it be right argument to conclude something based on 0.0000000000000000001(approx) pcnt sample? May be Darwin and Dawkins themselves haven't spoken much about the origin. That's why it is lacking in your speech too. It will be good if the argument is taken to origin. Matter, space, time. How it came? How cell came into existence and stuffs.

Hello Doc. It is my understanding that What you explained from that book is only seems to be the ability of genetic self modification of a species to develope according to the environment it faces. Evolution is altogether a different concept which is not proved beyond doubt. So the theory of evolution, which is based on presumptions and assumptions, is also a belief and not a fact. So far as someone proves this experimentally this theory cannot be termed as scientific one.
