Keala was hired to sing sum of the songs at the presentations for the company for the movie to get the green light to be able to go ahead & film, herself & others have said in interviews that after she performed “This is Me” like you just saw the director went up & hugged her then said “you’ve got the part” he basically hired her to be the bearded lady based on this performance.

This movie really is an empowering, feel good movie. Honestly, I don't think it received nearly as much love and recognition as it deserves. It really is an amazing movie, with a wonderful message and an outstanding soundtrack. =] I am so glad you enjoyed the movie as well & reacted to the sing-along green lit screening of the song this is me. It really is emotional an brings out the feels in the song. I can't wait to buy the DVD when it comes out. =D An have a movie night with my family & make them watch this movie with me. xD Sadly I was the only one to see it in my family, but when I get the DVD, they will all see it. ;D

I think the movie itself is yes very empowering and inspiring and the music is great so it makes you feel good - but I think the reason it doesn't really get the attention it deserves is probably because there are enough people out there and who think this movie rather ignores and whitewashes PT Barnum and kinda presents this romanticized view of what was the true story - and while I don't think this movie should be like some historical documentary and I loved it, I can see why some others may be hesitant because they think this movie could whitewash how the general public sees PT Barnum and the creation of the museum and the oddities and the circus.

i feel like the reactor, john, was more interested in hearing the song again than taking in the performance as its own experience separate from the movie. the song is beautiful, the lyrics are resounding, and its preformed spectacularly by Keala but its the fact that this first showing of the song, performance, lyrics together brought the show to the big screen and she did it while she was so afraid and pushed threw with such power and grace that astounds me every time. she did so well she brought the room and the other performers together.
