I found the original 2008 Rom 1s to be superior. The 2s were less quality in a slight but still noticeable way. Never did fully warm up with either tbh, as I have flat feet and it hurt them like hell and the soles were not great. I kept slipping with them on the platform at the CrossFit gym I was training at the time, tho the platform was partly to blame. But, I never had any issues with rubber or gum based soles like the Asics or old Adidas equipment

Love how the ROM2’s fit around my foot but always felt the shape/slant of the heel was lacking. First of all it feels much lower than all the adidas shoes I’ve ever owned, or perhaps it’s the excessive arch support right in the middle of the shoe that does this. It’s like a dividing line straight through the middle of the shoe that forces you to choose either ALL heels or ALL forefoot. Kinda makes me feel like I’m just wearing platform shoes that make me taller but don’t add any effective heel height or increase ankle ROM at all. Perhaps this is only an issue with the larger sizes. My completely unfounded hypothesis is that they designed the slope of the heel to be correct for an average foot size (say a US size 9) such that there was a complete slope from toe up to heel; then any larger sizes they kept the same length of slope and just added on flat at the back, like a sort of “plateau” from midfoot all the way back to heel. Totally conjecture. Still a great shoe. Just not the right heel shape for me.

A few people say the Reebok legacy lifter 2s have a similar feel to the ROm 2s. My experience is not trustworthy since the legacy lifter 2s are my first weightlifting shoe but they feel incredibly planted for back squats. Good room for the toes as well. I’d say look into them for a quality shoe since those Rom 2s are no where to be found these days 🥹.
@christopherroberts2500Ай бұрын
If we're talking just for squats, Reebok LL (1-3) are unparalleled. Not so great in the classic lifts, but for squatting specifically they are GOATed. As someone who has many pairs of Rom 2s, I wouldn't compare them so much. Reeboks feel bigger, firmer, and more planted, whereas the Rom 2s are a better 'all-rounder.'
@tooblindtofinehome1Ай бұрын
@@christopherroberts2500 thanks for the insight. I’m on my 3rd wear of them and I still haven’t been able to backsquat as much as I could before just yet, but once my body gets calibrated to them it should be fun!

Fellow legacy 2 wearer here, agree they are awesome for squatting, incredibly stable shoe. I like them for classic lifts also but haven't much basis for comparison, these are the only quality shoes I've ever even worn. I just like that the sole is very flat and the heels are very high, suits me well as someone with fairly lacking dorsiflexion.

Question regarding training. What’s the benefit of using BTN Jerks? I’ve only ever done normal jerks from rack/blocks. Tried BTN for the first time the other day and it felt good. Is there much carry over to your front rack jerk?
@jay17737Ай бұрын

They force you to drive vertically, whereas a close-to-max front rack jerk may result in the dip and/or drive going a bit forward.

Can be useful for extra jerk volume and heavier weights. Very good if you're slow in the dip and drive.

Straps on snatch singles? Why? I understand the usage on pulls or complexes but for singles (or paused doubles etc) there's nothing to be gained and in fact much to be lost - there's a reason why NO high level Weightlifter uses straps on singles (other than preserving hands from injury prior to comp, etc). To many top coaches straps are a crutch and should only be utilized on rare occasions.
@benjamingrunberg7807Ай бұрын
He doesn't compete, why wouldn't he use straps. You have better technique with straps. If you have good technique and a strong grip, it doesn't matter that much. Example: Klokov best snatch with straps is 206kg, with hookgrip 202.5kg.
@HarleyBaldwin-ck8wdАй бұрын
@@benjamingrunberg7807 "better" technique? In what way exactly? I suggest you look at any of the Olympic coaches and see what they say about strap usage. Isn't the point of Weightlifting to challenge yourself, or is it to make things more easy (using aids and crutches to make up for deficiencies). And Klokov isn't Human! Everyone knows that! 🙄🤷🤣
@benjamingrunberg7807Ай бұрын
@@HarleyBaldwin-ck8wd You relax your arms more! I once missed a weight with straps that I made two days before without a hookgrip.So for me it doesn't matter. But you're probably right! I think it depends on which school it is. The Russians use a lot of straps on snatch singles from the floor but I don't think I've ever seen the Chinese use straps on singles from the floor and neither Lasha. But as I said, I think he doesn't use straps because he doesn't compete and because he practices a lot of technique that his coach Anton has changed. Hope he can answer himself why he doesn't use straps.
