I miss Michael Clark Duncan. Tom Hanks spoke at his funeral. Okay, about indoor plumbing in 1935: The setting of this movie is rural Louisiana. Most houses there would have had running water in the kitchen sink, but no indoor toilet. Lots of rural houses got their water from a well on the property. I live in rural southern Illinois in a house built in 1920. This house did not originally have a bathroom, and one was not installed until around 1960. When I moved here in 2008, I met lots of older guys (born in the 1930s) who said that as kids they were bathed in the kitchen next to the stove. Families had a metal basin there into which they poured hot water from the stove, and it was from this hot water that everyone got washed off once or twice a week. My parents grew up in eastern Pennsylvania, and they had relatives who were farmers who did not get indoor bathrooms until the 1950s.

Everyone loves John and Paul (MCD and Tom) but Doug's portrayal of Percy is stellar! Also, can we talk about Brutal? Everyone needs a BFF like him and while cast as a minor character, David Morse acted his a$$ off and made Brutus Howell larger than life, too.

This Stephen King novel is filled with religious symbolism. The images in the film match the book well. The cathedral-like windows over the guards desk show a ray of heavenly light across the green floor. John can detect danger and fear. When Paul visits the defense attorney about John, the attorney states that there was no evidence of John's existence before his arrest and trial, "It's as if he dropped from the sky."

By the way, I had a urinary tract infection when I was a teenager in High School. The pain is unbearable. Pissing razor blades is precisely how I would describe it. I was embarrassed and afraid to ask for help or go see a doctor, cause it is an STD. The pain got so bad that I eventually passed out taking a leak one morning. My father heard the thump, came into the bathroom, saw me on the floor and thought I was on drugs. I had to fess up to him what was wrong with me. That first piss after being all healed up, is borderline the greatest feeling ever.

I honestly enjoy watching this flicker show. I lost count years ago. Watching the individuals react for their first time is somewhat like experiencing it again, but with the hope they'll Jump, Screach, Look Away, Get on the Edge & Feel Cold Chills, Cry when their Laughing, Laugh when Afraid. At every Mark I reacted. Right when I was ment to. It's good to witness other generations (younger) have similar responses & to enjoy the films as much as we did sitting in a theater. It a unexpected way that gravitates the generations closer. Question? Do you 2 know why KZbin is replaying past reactions (yours & others) and stating that it's a recent viewing that happened just hours ago..? Many times your commentary is mentioning different months and even holiday seasons. I'm curious why, no piticular rhyme or reason.
@DaKidsReact

Definitely was an amazing film. The reason for our reactions mentioning months back is that’s when we recorded/reacted to it. Usually for us & many other reactors, we are further ahead on Patreon than KZbin. So for instance, breaking bad on YT (S3) is a whole season behind where we are on Patreon (just finished S4 & starting S5 today)

Glad you picked up on the fact that we had no clue what their crimes were… similar to those who were crucified along side Jesus… he never asked a single one of those men about their sins or crimes but told them all “for today you will be with me in paradise.” The wages of sin is death. @@DaKidsReact 🥰 Definitely not--slavery ended officially in 1865. In the movie, they had cars and trucks. Motor cars started coming in around 1920, the first Ford was in 1927. Also, remember that John wanted to see a movie and the movie had sound, so that puts it at least mid 1920s. They also had electricity and indoor plumbing, both of which didn't happen until around the turn of the century. But the fact that Paul's home still had an outhouse means it was still early 20th century (1900s). Also, the warden's wife--they took her to get a brain scan / X-ray, which also wouldn't have been around in the 1800s. Or if they were, they wouldn't be widely available, I don't think. I don't remember if they give the movie a time stamp anywhere (I think maybe when the older lady is telling Paul that the dates don't work out, but I don't remember), but if I had to take a stab at it, I'd say in 1930 or so. Ah. Just looked it up on Wikipedia. They say it was set in 1935, which tracks. Anyway, I'm looking forward to watching the reaction--love you guys. 🙂 I'm just waiting on part 2 to drop so I can watch them back to back. 🙂 Have a good night, and I hope you stuck with me for the mini history lesson!

This movie was nominated for Best Supporting Actor (MCD) and Best Cast but unfortunately neither won. 6. Players in other King adaptations: Jeffery DeMunn: Shawshank Redemption, The Mist, Storm of the Century and William Sadler: Shawshank Redemption, The Mist. David Morse: The Langoliers. Patricia Clarkson played Margarat White in King's remake of Carrie". Needless to say, it was a much different part. Looking forward to part II.

these guys get more and more unable to watch a movie open minded without prejustices. They are more watching their own head cinema than the movie they should "react".

The main reason there were chairs for execution besides the victims, were primarily for attorneys to confirm the judge's sentence was carried on to be executed.

Executions have to be transparent, to protect the condemned from cruel and unusual punishment. Some observers are from the state, corrections, and D.O.J. Some are reporters, some medical students. Even the family of the condemned are allowed, if they care to attend.
