The movie they watch in the old folks home at the beginning is called "Top Hat," from 1935. Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers had a longtime cinematic partnership, making nine films together. A song from that film called "Cheek to Cheek" became a jazz standard afterwards.

Both films (Shawshank Redemption & The Green Mile) clearly show what it's like when a great story is in the hands of a director who takes his time. Which gives the viewer time to identify with the characters, to like them or to hate them. Above all, it gives the viewer time to feel emotionally connected to the whole thing. Because only then follows one of the viewers to the end. I come from Germany. So the text comes from the Google translation.

My favorite story from this film is during Michael Clark Duncan's last conversation with Tom Hanks character he said normally actors when they not on-screen they have the day off. He said that Tom on his days off came to set and sat with him during his speech and gave an Oscar-worthy performance without the cameras being on him. He said that was the sign of not a true actor but a true human to just sit and be present and helped him deliver such an emotional performance.

As a Louisiana born native (not a Cajun) I can say that Delacroix’s Cajun accent is the closest non-Cajun’s fake/put on accent I’ve heard in live action. Super close even though I can tell it’s not real. In animated form, it’s the firefly from Princess and the Frog.

Fun facts: Michael Clarke Duncan (John Coffey) and David Morse (Brutal Howell) are only an inch different in height (6'5 and 6'4 respectively), so they had to film David Morse always slightly behind MCD to hide the difference. The tallest Oscar nominee is James Cromwell (Warden) at 6'7, but the tallest Oscar winner is Tim Robbins (Andy from Shawshank) at 6'4.

1. YOU WILL CRY 2. Dabbs Greer/old Paul was ill during production so his part was done later. He also played Reverend Alden on "Little House on the Prairie". 3. Hammersmith was not a good lawyer. (most likely a racial thing. It was 1935.) 4. In the book King briefly covers why the Chief and Del are on death row. 5. This movie was nominated for Best Supporting Actor and Best Cast but unfortunately neither won. 6. Players in other King adaptations: Jeffery DeMunn: Shawshank Redemption, The Mist, Storm of the Century and William Sadler: Shawshank Redemption, The Mist. David Morse: The Langoliers. 7. Goof: Electricity makes the body contract. Del wouldn't be able to scream. 8. IRL James Cromwell is a vegan and didn't want to grill meat for the BBQ scene but was told that in 1935 people actually ate meat so he agreed to have some on the grill. 9. RE Percy: Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. KARMA's a Bitch. BTW Kudos to Doug Hutchison for the great job of being Percy.👌 10. IRL both David Morse and James Cromwell are about the same height as Michael Clark Duncan (RIP). They used planks, a smaller bed and smaller chair along with trick photography to make John taller. 11 The scene where John takes Mr. Jingles for safe keeping before Del's execution they used a real mouse and it pooped on Paul's shoulder and he brushed it off. 12. Now we know what the "day old is fine" dry toast is for. 13 EVERYBODY cries and has to take time to reflect. Congratulations you just experienced the GREATEST MOVIE EVER. 14. 4 words for you: Stephen King. You're WELCOME!

I have three masterpiece movies to add to your list, as already mention in the comments below is "Schindler's List" which tops the list in my opinion directed by Steven Speilberg and a true story. Next is "The Pianist" another true heartbreaking story and "Sling Blade" brillantly acted by Billy Bob Thorthon. I think he wrote and directed it as well. I've only seen one reaction. I watch many many reaction channels. Sort of an addiction of mine. I love experiencing movies with people for the first time. Makes me feel like I'm watching with a friend. I am also the type of person to think carefully about words and their meanings and not use them when a different word or sentiment is more accurate. Therefore, I hope you understand my sincerity when I say there is no other reactor among all the ones I watch that I wish I could actually be personal friends with than you. The fact that this is literally one of my top 3 favorite movies ever helps, since your take on it is so good.

«I’m sorry for what I am.» This line always makes me tear up. Michael Clarke Duncan (John Coffey) and Doug Hutchison (Percy) doing such great jobs in this movie. I really miss movies like this. 90ies movies have something special about them. «Dances With Wolves» is another one of these special movies you ask at the end of the video.

Another amazingly fabulous 1990s movie is "L.A. Confidential". Incidentally, this is also the (Hollywood) breakout roles for both Guy Pierce and Russell Crowe. :)

A Moonpie is a southern treat from Chattanooga, TN. It has two soft graham cracker cookies with marshmallow between them and coated in chocolate. Even though it sounds just like Smores, it tastes different. I grew up in TN and am very familiar with them. Apparently, it was a thing to eat one while drinking an RC cola, but I never tried it myself.

Michael Clarke Duncan (John Coffey) is 6'5", James Cromwell (the warden) is 6'7" tall. So yes, they photographed John Coffey to make him look like more of a giant than he was.

Thank you for allowing us to watch along with you, again I thoroughly enjoyed your reaction. You may not have seen his face but you have heard his voice. Michael Clarke Duncan was the rhinoceros prison guard in Kung Fu Panda 1. Top Hat (1935) Starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers is the movie that Jon was watching.

I saw a documentary about how they made the film. Many times, when you read the script for the first time, you read it as yourself and develop the character afterwards. But the cast was so strong that many did it in character from the beginning.

This was filmed at the old Riverbend Maximum Security Prison just outside of Nashville. In the late '80''s, as teens, me & my cousin got arrested smoking weed at the wave pool & we both got community service & had 2 tour this prison when it was still open. The inmates didn't really leave a big impression, but Old Sparky did! The real execution chamber was different. U had 2 walk outside of death-row & n2 a small 2-room brick building. In the 1st room was a concrete slab 4 the body & on the other side of the partition was the electric chair. It had been a while since they used it, but it smelled really weird. It had no air conditioning & was the middle of summer, & made me nauseous! I felt like I was in hell!😅 A friend of mine's dad was an extra in this. He played a guard. I watched it when it 1st came out, & NEVER need 2 c it again! ✌😎❤

Bravo! I'm so glad you were touched by this movie. It's a masterpiece, in my opinion. It had several Oscar nominations, including for the late Michael Clarke Duncan (RIP) who was a very large man at 6'5" but not as tall in real life as they made him appear. In fact, the tallest guy in the movie was James Cromwell who played the prison warden with the sick wife. He is 6'7". Michael Clarke Duncan was recognized widely for his amazing portrayal of John Coffey. There are many very fine and well-known actors in this movie who continued to shine in other movies. You may have already seen some of them in other films. Sam Rockwell, (Billy the Kidd) for example.

This is one of the greatest movies ever made! The 90's and early 00's cranked out some of the best movies out there. At that time Spielberg and Hanks were the power duo of the industry with movies like this one, Saving Private Ryan, and the Band of Brothers miniseries. If you haven't already seen them, I highly recommend Schindler's List, Gladiator, and the Band of Brothers miniseries. They are all award winning films from the same era!
