Wow, these are incredible. A buddy and I are planning a trip up to Humboldt. I told him we now need to check out this trail. Holy cow, it’s heavenly. Such paradise. NorCal is seriously one of the most gorgeous areas on planet earth. Thank god us Californians can visit it any time we want.

I live in Del Norte and pass through this forest on my way to town 5Xs a week. To see the many folks from around the world visiting these majestic forests always makes me smile and fills me with hope that we might yet save our planet. These trees represent 5% of the original 2 million acres that was logged.

Love your videos! 🤙🏼 Quality work. Visual and informative. Wondering if you have time to help. I’m driving through the redwoods in July and trying to pack as much in as I can in a short amount of time. Should be arriving into the Hiouchi Visitor center by 3:30pm (8:42pm sunset). Do you think this timing is possible? 3:30p/ Hang out at visitor center for 20-30 minutes 4:10pm/ arrive at Stout Grove and spend 1 hour. 5:10pm / Hike Grove of Titans and drive Howland Hill Road to Crescent City (2 hours) Arrive in Crescent City at 7:00-7:30p

After reading the book "wild trees" I committed to exploring the titans, and did so in 2015. It was not signed and there was no boardwalk, what a precious experience. I am saddened by the need for people to share the gps and other location indicators. When I clicked on your KZbin video I was hoping you didn't get too specific about locations of the great ones.

@@KitFrost Hello friend! I love “The Wild Trees” such an inspiration indeed! I’m glad to hear you had such a wonderful experience prior to the building to the boardwalk! I hope my video didn’t let you down! Although the trees themselves are the highlight of the grove and sure don’t need a plate depicting the names that Dr. Sillette so affectionately named! Thank you for sharing friend! Happy trails to you!

@@ErnestormExploresProfessor Stephen Stilett discovered the grove as well as Hyperion which is 372 feet tall near Orick. Ge kept the grove a secret until an arborist in Medford Oregon ( Vendeen) published the location. He’s not loved by the rangers. During Covid the state built the metal walkway because people were compacting soil around the trees. I used to remove my boots and walk in. Sir in the grove alone for hours in silence. Those days are gone.

Hi! Happy you watched the video thank you! Coast redwoods are Sequoia Semperviren and hold the genus of “sequoia” as there name. The “giant sequoia “ you are likely to be referring to are the mountain redwoods and by genus are sequoiadendron this only called “sequoia “ by sino name only, Both are under Cupressaceae family :) pretty cool right ?

They absolutely are Sequoia. Coastal Sequoias. They get 60 % of their water from fog.

I recently visited these same trees and was blown away by the otherworldly mystic and size of these giants. Absolutely breath taking. I would however be interested to know the method used to measure the height of them. I have a DJI drone, and when I ascend to 160-190 feet it appears to be about as tall as these trees. Yet the stated height of them is much taller.
@rayray4192
@rayray4192 Жыл бұрын
@@tdawg719 Professor Steven Stillet at Humboldt State University shoots an arrow above the tree. Attached to the arrow is climbing rope. He climbs up and drops a line to measure the tree. Hyperion down by Orick California is 372 feet tall or maybe 373 by now. The four Titans are all over 300 ft. tall. Happy you made it into the grove. Please donate to Save The Redwoods. I used to lay branches over the primitive society trail to hide the trail and preserve the trees. A Medford Oregon arborist published the latitude and longitude of the grove. During Covid the state sent a crew in to trail build and do erosion control. The steel staircases are the result. The 1 year project closed Mill Creek trail. I went in anyways. It was quiet. You could sit in the grove for hours on a weekday and see zero humans. Those days are over. Sad.

@@ErnestormExplores hey brother from another mother: Rey Damnation Creek trail just south of Crescent City. First three minutes is uphill and then downhill for 45 minutes to the ocean. Secluded small beach where Damnation Creek flows into the ocean. Life changing hike. It’s a bitch uphill to the car, but great work out. Biggest Sitka Spruce I’ve ever seen. Fog heading down and filtered sunlight through trees back to car will cause you to almost cry from the beauty.
