oh my god. yes yes YES! I still can’t pinpoint the reason I have an UNHEALTHY obsession with this song. I was never a fan of lisa or blackpinks’s music and I wasn’t crazy over rockstar or moonlit floor but this song has me going insane. I genuinely cried a few times looping it. it’s hypnotizing.

When I first heard the song, I found Rosalia's part baffling because it breaks the structure of the song and makes it unpredictable... but knowing Rosalia's discography if you listen to Motomami (the album) you realize that she makes a lot of mixing in between commercial/mainstream and alternative/unconventional sounds and sometimes stuff that at first it doesn't make any sense but at the end once you get it and see that her artistry and level of creativity allows her not to put herself in a box and be disruptive and unpredictable you start to appretiate and wish for more artists to break these barrers... so that's why I came to like this song, it speaks to me as someone who is always trying to improve herself but that not all the time I'm at my 100% but still everyday I strive to be a new better version of myself

Honestly this current solo era with bp makes me think 2 things mostly, especially with lisas singles getting released: 1. As if we could have had that the whole time, like why only bow do we get these types of music and solos after 7 years in the industry. And I dont mean this fight over if they write themselves or not or if they were allowed to release when they wanted too. Obviously we learned lisa picked her solo songs under yg she got offered but now look at what differnt stuff she picks for her solo music. 2. How will the next bp comeback timewise work, like jennie ans rose are only now just starting to release and lisa seemed to have a really good momentum and tining so far, with her run now. I hope they actually all get to do this and promote more in a western style for a longer while before going back on tour like announced

one thing i love about art is that once you start to look into a certain interpretation of the message being told you just keep finding stuff to back up your ideas that you would've glazed over before. This song isn't any different, once you start to look at it through the lens presented here, things like the adlibs in the prechorus and the messy nature of the song itself start to make more sense

I love New Woman as well. I really like your point about self-discovery being difficult because I think that undertone really makes the song. The distortion on the instrumentals gives a drowning feeling that's resisted by the really sharp snare. The riding melody for "I'm a new woman" evokes a determination to make this true.

I liked this song when it came out but when I had this moment recently where it just spoke to me on a spiritual level and I’ve been obsessed ever since. I think it’s the best song she’s released so far. I love love love it. Maybe because I’m also growing through this moment of trying to grow but it makes me feel powerful for some reason. ❤

I love the melancholy, almost sterile feeling of this song mixed with the confidence contrasted with wispiness of the vocals. It just hits. Lisa is definitely the member of Blackpink who's musical identity is most developed at the moment, which is something I would've never guessed out of the four.

My personal understanding of New Woman was that it’s telling the same story she did in LaLisa and Money, but where LaLisa ends with a “fully formed Lisa” telling the listener that she became the best of all time and later on in money she’s telling you about how great a singular thing is which is money, being able to drop that money. But in new woman as she’s come to the realization that telling the story in a linear fashion was the wrong way to portray that story as she’s found herself back in the re-growth process that she tried to convey was over in LaLisa. Also the line “Purple into gold” indicates that she wants the listener to think of her debut mini given the main album cover was Purple with an gold L, that Gold L is finally what she’s diving into here and becoming a more fully formed Lisa, where that was kept in a purple box before hand as to maybe not break Lisa’s first growth cycle or her image in black pink. she starts off running in the song because to a certain extent the growth presented in Lalisa will always be there because she is still an Idol, I believe during this regrowth time she actually finds one of her non K-pop or Thai idols of her own starting the re-growth journey in the form of Rosalia. Since Rosalia is at the beginning of her growth cycle the song slows down to meet Rosalia were she’s at and in the pre chorus build up they switch lines, presumably from Rosalia’s point of view Lisa has become this big sister or “mom of the friend group” role in her life so she’s starting to repeat the advice given to her from the lessons learned by Lisa. But at the end of the song her and Lisa are in similar positions if not the same position. Also the imagery to me doesn’t read as the steps to insanity, it reads that both artists are learning to let go in away of what society has expected from “women” and letting go of that in the growth cycle to continue and finish.

I feel like whenever Max Martin and Ilya work together their production are really a masterpiece. Their work from Ariana all eras /taylor (rep/1998)to The Weeknd. You can tell they’re producers/writers who try to understand where the artists is coming from and how they want to express themselves. I really hope that Lisa can work with them again.

To me, New Woman isn't a typical Kpop release. It has a really interesting sound & strucutre that hasn't been used in Kpop (at least in the more mainstream). It's a bit jarring, espcially on first listen, but it works really well. Plus the fact that Tove Lo contributed to the writing process just adds to the whole vibe (it sounds like something she would sing). Also the MV was gorgeous & I loved how incorporates the taboo/"less visually appealing" sides of femininity/womanhood into the imagery & symbolism. It's very rare to find a pop (let alone Kpop) MV that's willing to depict these sides of the female experiance. That & the overall visuals makes it one of my favourite Kpop/kpop ajaent MVs & I really hope Lisa continues to release music like this.

Probably because it’s a POP SONG. It was written by western artists and songwriters under RCA. Lisa is obviously trying to shift away from that sound to appeal more to the west. New Woman is anything but a Kpop Song.

Most of the imagery is about the challenges faced by women - being observed and judged in a creepy way, impossible body standards, repetitive tasks to keep up those body standards, contorting ourselves to avoid punishment (the cactus), bring trapped (the ball chain). Then there's the crossing and uncrossing of legs which reminds me of a finishing school

The song itself is fine, but personally I HATE Rosalía's verse. English slang In Spanish is something that has me cringing for days, like wdym "I'm the fucking Rosalía and I only know how to serve, The starry night, let it be, until the sunrise, let it be" is wayyyy to cringy for me. If you like her verse, cool, but it's something I personally can't get passed. One thing I love however is the post chorus, the "face, eyes body go wild, you want this? I'm a new woman" is really addicting

Honestly this is the best song i feel any blackpink member or even Lisa can make. I love her, but new woman was SO good. It alone, one song, ended the whole "meaningless song" train at a click. And that's hard to end a huge hate train like that. NEW woman was INSANELY good and dare i say the "revolution" blackpink was talking about in forever young. Like literally Lisa might never get to THIS level of ARTISTRY ever again. Its heart breaking she didnt promote this sing till her death. Like this is the perfect comeback any artist can make, lisa missed a HUGE opportunity.
