A Kasrkin squad is also a good option for the Reinforcements Stratagem. Not only do they have good firepower and better armor than a basic squad but they can also issue themselves an Order without needing an Officer nearby.

One important thing to note: We have a lot of 2 CP stratagems and only one way to generate extra CP in Lord Solar Pony-man and only one way of discounting CP in Ursula "Madam Churchill" Creed.

@@Awesomotron2kThe reliable ones are only on Epic Heroes, and Vox-Casters are very unreliable. By comparison, Space Marines have access to discounts on all of their flavour of Captains, and Tyranids on their Hive Tyrants.

Thats true but both players can only get a maximum of 2 CP a round. 1 from the beginning of your command phase and "1 CP per battle round, regardless of the source." So i think all players will need better CP economy in this new edition overall i think the guard have it pretty good.

You want scouts in 3 groups of 1 to use their re roll 1s ability 3 times. Armoured sentinels with HK missiles are a much better target. Not only do you get the HKs back but you can reroll wounds.

I am very excited to run full units of scout sentinels with plasma cannons as blob cleaners! With a take aim order they get down to 3+ and with their special ability they can pick a unit to get reroll 1's, meaning they can hoover up anything from Necron warrior blobs to full units of space marines (without running the risk of self-harming) with great effeciency. Combine that with Armoured might, which essentially makes them impervious to small arms fire like boltguns and you are looking at a terryfingly fast, hardy and dangerous anti-infantry unit which can still punch holes in heavy armour with their hunter-killer missiles and plasma cannons. And just to add injury to insult, you can play them maverick style, right up in your opponents face and when they die, you get to Reinforce them and do it all over again!

Re: Armoured might, in the just released official rules commentary it is clarified that "Strength, Toughness, Attacks and Damage characteristics can never be modified below 1. The exception to this is where a rule specifies that you can change the Damage characteristic to 0"

I think the "Expert Bombardiers" is only enabling you to move your artillery and still hit as if it didnt move. If the unit stayed still, the "Heavy" Weaponkeyword would add +1 to the hit roll already, and you can not add more than 1 to any roll.

Agreed, expert bombadiers seems like a waste of CP when you can just use a tank commander (take aim) and sentinel to make basilisks or manticores 2+ rerolling 1s anyway, and save the CP for reinforcements

I think surpression fire might be excellent in combination with catachans. Because the debuff should also work with melee attacks. So suddenly the catachans might be pretty durable in close combat.

I want to take Straken and 20 Catachans with 2x Sentinels and push up onto a mid-field objective and hold off any units that try to push them off while the Cadians run to take a 2nd mid-field objective. When the Catachans are killed off, they can return to rescue the back field objective.

Dude if I'm being real I thought going into the index that the guard were going to be maybe like an upper B tier army. But after going through the index, I'm pretty confident that the guard are most likely going to be one of the best armies in the game for quite some time. I'm actually a little worried that they're going to be too good and might get nerfed badly and we'll have to wait quite some time for the codex to see them be decent again...

Exterminator + Fields of Fire Combo will be the bane of Terminators or any other high save units. Love it 💪Also Inspired Command is great for Take Cover and/or Fix Bayonets if you're getting blasted or charged.

I expect Armoured might to work exactly that way. Can be damage 0. There's examples in our index with the Bullgryn that do have the minimum 1 damage! So I think alongside the other examples in other indexes, we can safely assume RAW is correct

Daring recon on the sentinels is a dataslate ability and I believe that's limited to one per round, so only 1 sentinel could do it. I could be misremembering that though

Why? You activate Daring Recon on one Sentinel it says: "At the start of your Shooting phase, select one enemy unit within 18" of and visible to this unit'" - this is that units ability then Activate Daring Recon on Sentinel unit number 2: "At the start of your Shooting phase, select one enemy unit within 18" of and visible to this unit" - now using this units ability Then Activate Daring Recon on Sentinel unit number 3: "At the start of your Shooting phase, select one enemy unit within 18" of and visible to this unit" There are abilities like this worded across the game, it doesn't stop you using that ability on another unit as it is a different activation of this ability.

I was U.S. Army Infantry irl, overlapping fields of fire is redundant. Your field of fire as it is called for infantry tactics are generally overlapping, not always of course but when setting up a static line or if you're dug into a position the FoF are overlapping so the new name is fitting.

They've added a rules commentary document that says modifiers cannot reduce to 0 unless it specifically says damage reduced to 0 like the Dorn special ability.

You cant reduse damage to 0 unless specifically said so. so the stat does not make dmg1 to zero. they have said so in the companion guide (forgot the name oif that basicly faq)

Massive fan. Armoured Might + Valkyrie is grotesque. Fields of Fire and Suppression Fire + Scions is belligerent. Reinforcements and Inspired Command are degenerate. Expert Bombardiers is twisted beyond rational ken. And I love it.

Armored might may be immune to 1 damage because every faction I've seen has one of these. Lemartes for death company blood angels has the damage minus 1 buff for death company he leads

I don't think Armoured Might works that way, as one of the Tyranid big bugs I can't remember it's name has an inbuilt ability that reduces damage by 1, but also doesn't specify to a minimum of 1. I wouldn't be surprised, but I doubt that GW would release rules for a model that makes it completely immune to DMG 1 weapons permanently.

Oh mighty Commisar 🙏 and fellow players 🙏 would love to hear your thoughts on using the new assassins and allied imperial knights. I think 2-3 warglaives could give the gaurd some extra tough mobile melta and combat ability. Eversors as well seem a great unit to chop infantry of an objective 🙏

Splash was around for over a year before that with the bi-annual datalsates granting it. In fact, splash, Hammer of The Emperor and Russes getting a 2+ swung Guard win rates from the very low 20%s to the very high 30%s way before the codex dropped, almost doubling the win rate of the faction.

Damn, Guard is really paying for the sins of 9e lol. Bad datasheets (RIP battle cannons), overly expensive strategems, nerfed orders and almost useless detachments rule. Only thing that seems decent is artillery, and while thematic is a boring way to play fir both you and you opponent. We can only hope the points cost is reasonable, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

One thing I am massively disappointed in are heavy weapons on infantry (including field artillery). Why on gods green earth are they ballistic skill 5+??!? Everything in the codex is bs4+ except Lord Solar, and commanders. Even tank commanders are 4+. Just arbitrarily made them BS5+? They've always been 4+.
