If you look at the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, that little figurine Peter gives to Yondu can be seen on Yondu's console surrounded by a few others. That means that Yondu liked Peter's gift so much, he started to collect little figurines to add to his collection.

I love to see Mantis angry and use the martial arts she had in the comic books. Pom's portrayal is so adorable. The light scene was hilarious because you know it's going to go downhill once Kevin is going to meet Peter. And the fact Mantis was scared to tell Quill the truth and his reaction was so sweet. This is going to be an modern classic.

In addition to finally having Cosmo talk and be telekinetic in the MCU, the part that stood out to me the most is that people in general seem to have finally accepted Quill as a leader and he is very respected. That was surprisingly wholesome.

@@ninjanibba4259 Cosmo was always based on Laika, a female dog. As Gunn said, he just went all the way back to the source material. Fans barely even knew who the GOTG were before the MCU lol, they were virtual unknowns, and the original lineup didn't even have any of the same characters, except Yondu who wasn't even a Guardian in the MCU except honorarily at the end of movie 2.

In the scene where Ego is talking about trying to find a child with his abilities one of the aliens you see is the same species as Mantis, so it makes sense.

She was raised by Ego as somewhere between a servant and a pet -- it's no surprise that her default reaction to any situation is to go along with everything and to deflect any blame from herself. Being with the Guardians is obviously really good for her.

This was such a fun holiday special, and I especially loved how hilarious Drax and Mantis were throughout it. This along with "Werewolf by Night" really were great as the first two Marvel Studios Special Presentations.

same , Sadly, my 3 sisters aren't so nice anymore ,Haven't talked to them in years I left the door open though .. Money is the root of all evil. They all felt like they didn't get their fair share when my parents died. Everything was split four ways ..everybody got equal. My parents were definitely the glue that held everything together and we were always close ... I'm sure they're both rolling in the graves right now over how bad their girls are treating each other.. you can only hope things get back, but I don't think they will so you just remember the past the way things used to be.. I'm sure it happens quite often families

The weird movie Kevin Bacon was watching when Mantis and Drax showed up at his home was a great choice. A painfully bad 1964 B grade SciFi/Comedy called “Santa Conquers the Martians” in which the Martian ruler kidnaps 🎅 to bring cheer (and hopefully pep) to the lethargic, pop culture addicted couch potato children of Mars. So, Aliens kidnapping a legendary earth hero to cheer someone up….it couldn’t have been more appropriate Merry Christmas, thanks for sharing your viewing experiences with us

I know there was a part in Guardians 2 where Drax and Mantis were talking, and Mantis was about to tell him something, but they were interrupted. Then Gamora asked what she was about to tell him.

I loved this special and your reaction. I hope Marvel keeps doing them. The Mantis secret was never directly said in Guardians 2, but there were three clues about her being Quill's sister. One; during Ego's presentation of all the worlds and women he "encountered" we see Ego with an alien that is the same species as Mantis. Two; Mantis shared a scene with Drax where she came close to sharing a big secret about her and Ego. Three; their is a deleted scene from the movie where it is actually said that Quill and Mantis are siblings.

In the comic books, Mantis is a very different person. For the MCU, making her Peter's sister fits. Ego wasn't going to pick up a random being and keep her around. It makes more sense that Ego was going to add her to the pile of skeletons under the house (children without the Celestial gene), but she was able to use her powers to sooth Ego's insanity enough to keep her alive.

I don't think we've ever seen Mantis and Steve Rogers interact on-screen, but we've seen Steve with both Thor and Groot, so Mantis at least *knows* who Steve is. I like to think there was some off-screen bonding, too.

tbh i had already assumed Mantis was Ego's kid. Simply bc he was seeking out his children and killing them if they had no powers. So yeah, he "found" her bc she was his. And she has powers, not the one's he needed for his final plan, but enough that she could be useful to him so he let her live.

I had a great time, I would watch again anytime :) I like this small special format for the Guardians, I think 1 adventure in 1 episode of the week for TV shows might be my favorite format, I know it's less and less popular now but I think more and more that the MCU or superheroes in general would benefit from this format but having the Guardians living crazy adventures like that would be so fun to watch every week, this was very touching ^^ Pom Klementieff (Mantis) accent is almost flawless, I've been practicing english for years yet I still have trouble to speak as fluently as she does, I'm impressed :)

James Gunn not only manages to pull off successfully mixing almost cartoonish humor with genuinely emotional moments, but he has been doing so rather consistently as of late. Hollywood in general needs more directors like him nowadays that actually understand how to entertain their audience.

The first time I watched this I liked it a lot but was a little disappointed. The second time, I loved it totally. It got me "in the feels", I laughed, I sang along to the tunes, and I even cried a little. Just what was needed to get the holiday season going. Ego was mating with all kinds of different species but they didn’t suggest that mantis was ego’s daughter in GOTG 2. I think ego just kept her because she was useful to him personally. Mostly to help him sleep. All of his other kids were just discarded.

Well it's official, The Gobots are a part of the MCU. That was my favorite Gobot as a kid, Cykill. Also the movie Kevin Bacon is watching is called 'Santa Claus conquers the Martians'. It's an old movie, a horrible one. You can probably find it around online or on any streaming channel. I prefer the MST3k and Rifftrax versions where they just make fun of it.

🦌🔥Who lit up that deer? 🤪I like the opening song a lot more than Kevin Bacon's but his was ok too. I loved it too, but I do have one big continuity complaint though. For a special, the ending is great. For the narrative story of Peter and Yondu, the ending takes away the significance of Yondu's death in Volume 2. OTOH it sort of explains Kraglin's jealousy of Peter in the first place in Volume 2.
