Julia Barr's Daughter Alison Hirshlag briefly played Nice Girl Lizzie Spaulding on Guiding Light, Kim Zimmer's son Jake was on As The World Turns and then All My Children. On Coronation Street (UK) the actress who plays Hope played by Isabella Flanagan has a twin brother William who plays a young man named joe while on Emmerdale their Sister Amelia plays April Windsor.

@@rhondahancock96 Also Phoebe Dyvenor from Bridgerton is the daughter of Soap Legend Sally Dyvenor who has been playing Sally Metcalfe on Coronation Street on and off since 1986 and her Father Tim Dyvenor is a writer for another Soap Opera Emmerdale that Jenna Louise Coleman was on from 2005-2009 who played Jasmine Thomas.

Linus Roache (Law And Order US) is the Son of Bill Roache who is now Britian's Longest Running Soap Opera Character who has been playing Ken Barlow on Coronation Street debuting on December 9th 1960. He did a memorable scene with Sarah Lancashire who played Raquel a Barmaid. She is now an Icon who has done Julia, Last Tango In Halifax and Happy Valley.

Sadly, Nancy Malone who played Robin, died in 2014. There’s a clip here on KZbin from Archive of American Television where the interviewer asks her what she remembers about her time on GL. Nice to hear that she had fond memories from working on the show. 😊😊

I chiefly remember Ms. Malone for her guest appearances on THE TWILIGHT ZONE and THE OUTER LIMITS. On both shows, she took off her shoes and went about in her stocking feet.

I think that Bert was much more beautiful as she got older. It was as if she went from a young wine that was not matured , to a well-aged, mellow wine. Her smile lit up every scene she was in. Especially when she was with her granddaughter Hope.

@@brookehanley3659 Charita Bauer played Bert starting in 1950 on the radio version of GL and stayed in the role until December 1984. She died in February 1985. In her final year on the show, she played out her real-life drama when Bert had to have her leg amputated (Charita had previously gone through the operation due to complications from diabetes).

Can you imagine how surreal it must have been for Theo Goetz to work with various Bills, Berts, Eds (whose real name is William Edward Bauer Jr.), and Mikes. In the UK on Eastenders Joanne Warne originated the role of Peggy Mitchell but it was Barbara Windsor (who was made a Dame by The Queen), who made the role her own.

Then in the future P & G would acquire the rights to Gilette and Braun as well as Maxwell House Coffee. In The UK all of the Soaps are independently owned but when they have a scene with a Convenience Store, they "show" the actual products. When Eastenders celebrated it's 35th anniversary in 2020, King Charles (still known as Prince Charles) and Camilla visited the set. The Royal Family love UK Soapas.

Did you know that their most famous choreography was created by the Late Paul Williams of The Temptations (1939-1973), when they were in England doing Ready Steady Go The Sounds Of Motown. He suggested they pretend to be Female Cops. On Emmerdale a group of friends did the same thing. Also this month The Supremes did their debut performance on Ed Sullivan in a pre taped performance ten months after the beatles. Sadly it was the same week that Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys had his nervous breakdown.

Wouldn't it have been something if it were discovered that Dr. Dick Grant Sr.'s ancestors owned Dr. Charles Grant and his Family. Grant is a very popular last name on African American Soaps in terms of families last name. There was Dr. Charles Grant on All My Children and then there was Valerie Grant on Days Of Our Lives.

Bert talks about Trudy and it was originally played by the Late Helen Wagner who played Nancy Hughes McCloskey on As The World Turns from 1956-2020. She as you know is next to Don Hastings (Ex Dr. Bob Hughes) as well as UK Legend Bill Roache who has been playing Ken Barlow on Coronation Street from 1960-Present as the longest running Soap Actors in TV.

I was born in 1966 so I didn't know anything about The Bauer Family for a very long time. I first got familiar with them when I read the old school soaps and serials published by Pioneer Communications (A Poor Man's Harlequin Books), I saw the struggles that Mike went through, most notably when Mike left Springfield for Bay City to work with John Randolph. I loved how Mike called out the name "Papa". Bert was such a pain in the ass, sadly even mike leaving wouldn't change what happened between him, carl and robin. Even robin was a problem child being born under questionable circumstances. What's so eerie is that 38 Years later, Michelle Bauer (Mike's Neice), would go through a similar thing when Danny Santos (her husband took off the ring), then decided to leave but of course they both came back. Danny & Michelle lived in New Orleans, LA., while Mike moved to Washington, DC.

This is a treat to get to see Ed Bryce (Bill) and Bert (Charita Bauer). She was a real "case" back then, especially to Bill. No wonder he drank..lol. It was amazing how the show "softened" her character in the mid 70's to a more kind, sedate lady. Bill Bauer was killed off in '68, brought back in '77 and the storyline got too muddled and they decided to scrap it. He was only on a few months and left town again. These episodes are such a neat travel back to the past. Thanks so much for posting these. Marvelous!

Bert, Mike's a Grown @ss man, he doesn't want to stay at Aunt Trudy's because he doesn't want to be underfoot. Also when a person from one family lives with another, it can be complicated. New person, other groceries, a different personality, etc. Dick Clark stayed at The Y for awhile when he started out and he used to eat at a Diner around the corner. He moved back home to save money to get married for a year, after he got divorced, he rented an apartment in the city of Philadelphia.

Also Michelle & Danny's Son Roberto has the middle name of Frederico which was the name of Danny's Grandfather and Frederick is Rick's Real Name, and of course his Paternal Great Grandfather.

Back when virtually all American mothers used cloth diapers (needed to be washed after every use) for their babies. P&G would introduce Pampers disposable diapers later that year (Fun Fact: You could flush the diapers down the toilet since it didn't have chemicals that would clog toilets at the time) although disposable diapers didn't become more popular in existence and use among mothers until the 1970s.

There was a similar scene in the 1982 Movie Diner where Billy sees his friend Barbara who is pregnant who works at a TV Station in Baltimore, MD. Their discussion on The PA System, is at the same time where there's a romantic movie as part of the late night movies. The way the scenes interact is amazing. Poor Papa, he lives in a beautiful home and then five years later he lives in a hovel of an Apartment. Chris Hughes (ATWT) would never allow his "Pa" to live under those circumstances.

Can you imagine how quirky it was to have your character's name be your "real" name. Sally Dyvenor (Mother Of Phoebe Bridgerton) plays Sally Metcalfe, and two other Actresses who play Jenny Connor & Abi Webster are also named Sally Ann Carman & Sally Duttine on Coronation Street in the UK. Then Frank Dicopoulos plays Frank Cooper.

@@laminage Michael Allen played the role of Mike during this time. Mike went away to Venezuela as his marriage to Robin was over for two reasons: 1. His mother Bert had opposed the marriage from the beginning and had wanted it annulled, pushing Alex Bowden to pursue Robin, who fell in love with him and 2. Mike had felt guilty about his part in the accidental death of Karl Jannings, whose mother Ruth had married Robin's stepfather Mark Holden, a marriage that Robin opposed from day one and had led Karl on with the intention of hurting him. She broke off their engagement, telling him she never loved him before immediately eloping with Mike and delivering the news to Karl on Meta's patio, before Karl lunged at Mike, fell on the iron table and sustained head injuries, from which he later died from and which Mike was charged for manslaughter, of which he was cleared of.
