I am the weirdo that has always loved these. Everyone hates on any dean with the v headstock. Especially the caddys. These are awesome guitars and all the hate they get just makes me love them, and dean as a whole even more. Who else has the absolute balls to continually make guitars that everyone calls ugly for over 3 decades. Dean as a company made a decision years ago and that was....fuck the critics. They were right, and their guitars are awesome.

Talking about tuning issues: I owned one of the older models once and never had any tuning issues, too. In retrospective, this is very strange, as a LP usually is impossible to keep in tune. As this is almost always referred to the spacings on the tuners, this specific guitar kind of debunks it. Crazy...

I think the purpose of this is to find a good middle ground for metal players who usually play old-school Gibsons, which is absolutely nailing the preferences of some players like Rob Barrett of Cannibal Corpse who wanted to look meaner while still feeling familiar and comfortable on the instrument.

The man known as ‘Dean’, originally devised that headstock to get more sustain; the really old Deans have even bigger winged headstocks. I’ve owned Caddys, & Dean Vs, but my favorite was a Splittail w/FR. If you can get 1 w/the slight v neck backside profile, it really does help with feet hand fatigue.

After four or five minutes going through the usual warm up exercises I use to get a feel for a guitar I had to admit that a lot of thought went into this model and it balances and plays better than I expected it to. Don't judge this book by it's cover, this is surprisingly comfortable to play and sounds really fine overall.

So I avoided Deans like the plague for years because it seemed to just be horrible graphics on guitars played by pothead Dime fanbois and the brand just seemed super cringe. While at a friend's house I picked up his brother's Dean Razorback (the green bumblebee..still remember) and it was THE most comfortable guitar I had ever played. I literally did not know that guitars could feel that comfortable until that guitar. Years later after a musical hiatus I got back into guitar playing and I was looking for a new guitar. I decided to focus more on what felt and sound good and not brand bias and whatnot. Cut to now where I own two Dean Modifiers and those are the only guitars I play. I love that model so much that I bought one with a trem, and back in the day I avoided trems hardcore. This is my first guitar with a trem and it's become my favorite. The Modifier/MLs aren't for everyone. When my guitarist tries to play mine it's comical because the guitar is literally the same size he is. I'm a big guy and I love huge guitars so the Modifier was perfect for me. Yeah I used to hate Dean but the company made me a believer. To be fair I still think some of their guitars are super cringe but ah well, they've got something for everyone.
