I think the difference between guitars and cars is that during the 2 Covid years a lot of people bought guitars thinking they were going to learn and now we are starting to see a lot of these guitars for sale after people gave up.

Heritage Guitars know how to take care of their customers. I had a H-150 which had a neck problem which I could not resolve in the year I had it, I reached out to their dealer and they replaced the guitar with a new H-150 with no questions asked and that guitar was on a whole other level compared to the old one. The fact that they value their customers is enough for me to buy a Heritage over any other comparable product.

I stopped shopping at guitar center in new england back in 2017 because they wouldn't deal on an ibanez. It was a used rg540. Was on the wall for months it was filthy. I asked the guy if i could nake an offer. He cut me off mid question and said we don't do that and walked away. So i left. Was in like a year later and there was that guitar. I'm in a rural area that has a single music store with way too much selection for this area. That is, they are pretty large. I'm a bass player and finally am thinking of picking up lead guitar, so I checked out my old favorite web site, Rondomusic, and found that their selection is not what it used to be, but the prices are still similar, though they don't have as many "cheap" guitars. I haven't looked there for 14 years, so that was surprising. Anyway, I was talking to the guy at our local store and I was commenting on current pricing, because his prices were quite a bit higher than the internet prices. He immediately said that they match internet prices. I like to keep the money in the area so I'll be purchasing there...

One of the best examples of working musicians wanting more of the same thing in their guitars they actually use is Bruce Springsteen. In a show he might play four or five different Telecasters (in different tunings or setup to have capos at different frets), but they all currently have Joe Barden Danny Gatton pickups. He could have literally anything he wants, and he basically just chooses to play very minor variations of the exact same thing.

My first acoustic was a used 1972 Ovation with a hairline crack on the top. I still have it but the crack has only grown. I used that as an excuse to buy my second, a beautiful D'Angelico EX-63 archtop. Next was a Hummingbird, an Epiphone "Inspired by Gibson" that is my favorite. I cannot imagine a Gibson could sound any better for 2-3 thousand more. I think an Enya carbon might be my next.

A lot of gigging musicians do stick to 1 or 2 guitars, but for my cover band I usually bring 3 or 4 so I can quick swap between different tunings and to have a backup. Usually 2 tuned to standard and one in E flat and sometimes a 4th in drop C. We play a broad range of songs and our gigs are 3 to 4 hours of music so having a variety keeps it interesting for me and I think guitars should be played. My main is a CE 24 with a strat as its backup then a custom 24 in E flat/drop C#, then an Ibanez for drop C. I do rotate a les paul, a PRS hollowbody, and a V because why buy guitars if they just sit around collecting dust?

My complaint with Fender noiseless pickups are that they are quite low output. I have N3s in a strat and I actually like the sound very much, but I have to make the amp work more. Mind you I mostly find that they work well for clean rhythm and you get excellent clarity. That said....very quiet in comparison to Ceramic and regular strat PUPs.

Hey Phil, I thought this story might interest you. I got a 5150 III 212 combo for 500$ at a 4th of July sale. It's the first gen with the 6l6s. I think it was sort of a mistake. I think they didn't realize it had been in the store long enough to qualify for such a huge discount. But then I was at their counter asking to buy it according to their own sale, and they honored it. I had store credit from selling them pedals that I actually made a -profit- on because I bought them used really cheap. So it basically cost me 250$ + a couple pedals I bought used that I didn't want anymore. It felt like the greatest day of my life lol. There's more to the story involving a disappointing traynor amp I returned, 113 degree heat index with 100% humidity and 12 hours driving with no AC. A very k middle aged lady that looked sort of like Nancy Botwin. All in all it was a roller coaster, but very much worth it. Once I finally got home with my amp I was the happiest person alive. I'm probably about to go lick it. I never thought I would get to own an amp like that again without doing something a least slightly financially irresponsible.

I was considering a Heritage when I purchased my Les Paul Standard but I just couldn’t get past the headstock shape ahah! The pick guard shape I guess can grow on me, just so used to seeing the one’s on Gibsons I suppose. I believe the Heritage models have long neck tenons and they certainly seem to be built very nicely. For me, the jury’s still out on that topic if it actually makes a difference regarding longer sustain though, I think sustain just varies from guitar to guitar like so many other things. 🤙

at music brokers bill the owner had the idea of cutting the middle man out and ordered 5 containers of acoustic and electric chinese guitars, they showed the guitars at namm in body and necks only no complete guitars we warned him dont do it but he did and we had like 2000 plus guitars stored at the underground basement at 3rd and Thomas at the big pawn shop with the gorilla outside. out of 10 2 were playable with work. we turned so many of the acoustics into slide guitars. if you ever see a guitar branded Gorham its not for scott gorham its Gorham guitars straight from music brokers and central pawn.

I've hated the Telecaster since High School...they way it looks, it's shape, and the twangy way it sounds. It's a painted cutting board with a neck.

Yep. If I was rolling in cash I would buy a guitar over a rolex any day. Don't need one of those to tell me that it's time to play guitar.

I don’t understand how GutarFetish gets good reviews. Two different people that I play with have ordered the Tele styles guitars and both of them had serious issues and required a lot of work before they were playable. I mean the guitars look great but they both came in with intonation issues, on one of them the bridge pickup did not work and the other one had a lot of string buzz. I think the people who are reviewing these guitars get cherry picked ones that do not represent their average product. I was very curious but after witnessing these two orders I will not be trying my luck with Guitarfetish

Phil... Long time subscriber, first time commenter... In your acoustic segment you failed to mention probably one of the best acoustic guitars... (Not just for the money) Yairi! Hand made by the same family in Japan for decades! Better than Martin, as good and maybe better than Taylor. Blows breedlove and PRS out of the water!

Thanks for answering the Noiseless pickup question. I'm bummed I'm going to have to deal with it eventually, since I liked the lack of hum they had.

Was just in the local GC where the sales clerks were talking about how slow the market is on new guitars because everyone is looking at used which are all over the place right now.

the stuff I liked on Reverb is selling almost the same day. I am buying new stuff too, but yeah, there are deals. I buy a lot of used stuff though, I don't know what it is like for new stuff.

I have owned 3 Telecasters and cannot connect with them. The last one was the best Tele I've played. It just sat and I let it go. I don't like much music with Teles. To be fair, I am more of a Strat guy and have sold every Strat I've owned and settled into a G&L Legacy.

I just couldn't agree with you more about acoustic guitar! You have to know acoustic before you play electric. And you can tell the difference between who hasn't. Almost every song I have written has started out on a acoustic. And many then transferred to electric. They have a magic no electric guitar can give. "Excuse electric guitar emoj 🎸".

I was waiting to hear Mr Spencer's paid question (at about the 1hr mark), answered. It was never mentioned. "Mr. Spencer $4.99 I wanna take a cheap Squier bass and drill holes in it for a string thru bridge. Never done anything like this. Any words of advice/wisdom/warning?"
@Bagledog5000
@Bagledog5000 Жыл бұрын
Measure everything ten times before you start drilling. If you can find a template, that would be best.. Be prepared to fail on the first attempt, and refill the holes. You may be able to swap the bridge first, and drill down for the initial holes, then drill and countersink the bottom of the bass.
