"The Alouette helicopter was extensively used by the Rhodesian Forces and was a great contributor to the success rate against terrorist incursions. In this song John likened this machine to a man' o war sailing ship of old!"

So this is the man himself, John Edmond? He seems like a pleasant, really jovial guy. Wish him all the best!

Properly funded, Rhodesia would still be there. Ran out of money and friends! I raise a glass to a country that's passed.

Chorus] La la la la la la la la We don't sail sailing ships-oh La la la la la la la la But we sing the gunship calypso [repeat 3x] We are sailors of a kind, we sail across the sky Sails are made from a chopper blade and the rotor takes us high Captain is the jockey and the 1st mate is the tech Like a nautical man he fires the cannon, downwards from the deck [Chorus]X2 We are like a Man-O-War, whenever we attack We've been tipped as a mercy ship, when we do the Kaza back We don't sail no pirate ship, but the crew is wild and wooly The loot is best in our treasure chest is a case of old chebully [Chorus]X3 [Lyrics transcribed by The Ghost of Ian Smith in June of 2019]

God Has Truly Blessed John Edmond. I pray many more for Him. I love all the Troopie Songs and the Dog songs Too . I just recently discovered Inja . For many American’s our knowledge of Rhodesia was limited to it being a place where people went on Safari’s , Rhodesian Ridgeback Hounds were Bred and a war against communist backed terrorism was fought. The Idealistic Zealots Who Betrayed Rhodesia Got their Happy Ending Massage. How long did it take them to realize the expletive they got wasn’t worth the expletive they got? That the bitterness would linger long after their self gratification was gone. When I watch the Interviews with those Who served Rhodesia I see Good, noble, well educated Christian’s who I believe had built a Country and Way of Life second to none.

White people built such an incredible civilization ❤ with a stable currency a thriving economy, airports schools, hospitals, universities, plenty of railroads and paved streets, safe, running water, electricity, air conditioning, plenty of petrol at all, the filling stations, fully stocked grocery store shelves, no trash on the streets no graffiti on the buildings and then suddenly everything crumbled. I wonder what happened.

Did those Choppers mount Hispano Souza 20mm cannon. Much More powerful than the 30 cal. Mounts The US used in Vietnam . The 50 cal. Though effective lacks fused projectiles.

No. My brother was in this squadron. They used twin Browning. It was such a long time ago I cant remember the type. We were fighting in the 1970s against modern weaponry with WWII planes and armaments. I have heard that we managed to get the Bell Helicopters in a trade deal with Israel in exchange for tobacco. We were in a land locked country and we were heavily sanctioned. But that did not worry us too much we just became self sufficient. We made do with what we had. Because we had no outside debt our exchange rate was excellent. Unless we managed to get the enemies weaponry our troops made do with the R1 rifle.
