I'm pretty sure this is due to the detrimental impacts it can and does cause both for individual users and for society as a whole, as well as the gross ethical violations perpetuated by certain major platforms which somehow are permitted to continue sans consequence. I really do understand your position. Like yourself, I don't consider KZbin to be social media either. My reasoning is that social interaction is neither the primary function of the thing, nor what most users desire from it. Additionally, commenting is an opt-in choice each individual makes independently every time they do so (though the presence of the almighty algorithm muddies this a little, since commenting on a video has the result of promoting/supporting its creator, whether or not that's one's intention). In fairness, the distinction that the other commenter is making is about the fact that by choosing to post in the comments section (to the extent of conversing with/responding to another person even!) you're engaging socially via a media platfom. This reasonably validates their claim that KZbin qualifies as social media, and also that you're actively participating in an interpersonal context, thereby 'using social media'. KZbin's easily-accessible built-in means of communicating with others means that it can absolutely be used as a form of social media, but that doesn't mean that it actually functions as social media for all users, all the time, in all situations and applications. Then again, one could arguably make the exact same case for just about any actual social media platform. All this aside, a good rule of thumb for navigating any human interaction is "Try not to treat other people like crap". You all have yourselves a nice day :)

I have a few relatives and in laws that brag about not using social media, which is fine, but they watch TV all day long. At least with social media you can clean out your inputs and get out of it whatever you want, science, religion, spirituality, things you believe help you grow as a person. It doesn't have to be half naked photos (like the stereotypes) but on a TV your watching whatever controlled crap they decide you need to see. How you use your social media is up to you, but if you want it as a tool for information or even making money, you can do that and there's nothing wrong with it. My sister makes good money through social media and her business relies on it heavily
