What really pisses me off so much, is that they had all the work done for them already, they had characters, a story, looks, style, EVERYTHING, literally they were given an action sci-fi show, on a silver platter, hot n ready, all they had to do was bring the action to life,but they decided "what if we do anything BUT that"

@@SoggywafflecakesI’ll say this and I’ll keep saying it until I die but games like halo shouldn’t be live action and I’m tired of people trying to force this. Live action is just too constrictive and expensive to do right. For games it should just be animated, you don’t need body actors, you don’t need props, you don’t need set pieces, and all that other shit, all you need to do is draw and animate whatever you want, and not only that due to the fact it’s animated you can even get the original voice actors for the games to work on the show. I mean look at LOL and Cyberpunk they were able to nail everything that made the games and lore so exciting and memorable, that could be halo but nope we shall continue this live action bullshit forever. Halo Legends is the closest thing we will ever get to a true halo show experience.

Fun fact, in real war time scenarios morale is INCREDIBLY important. Usually one of the quickest ways to raise morale is through food and pleasurable stimuli, its recommended before intensive missions that soldiers eat candy and some of their kits even come pre packaged with it. So in a way, dampening their sense of taste would be worsening their effectiveness lol. Just thought I'd point that out

Among the hormones that thing would have to suppress is dopamine. Turns out, you also need that for a sliiiiightly useful function called: Movement. 😬 In addition to being a mood-based motivator, that chemical also motivates movement & its control, by relaying the will to move (so it can even initiate), & sending back confirmation that the movement was successful (so even with your eyes closed, you can tell that you've moved your arm, for example). It's why physically practicing a skill lets you get better at it over time, combining physical & psychological satisfaction, & letting you fine-tune your motions. Parkinson's Disease is a malfunction of the dopamine system, for example, with both mental but mostly movement/control consequences. And ADHD involves having too little dopamine activity in certain mood centers of the brain (making us chase dopamine-releasing activities desperately), & too much involved in movement (if you're of the hyperactive subtype) or thought (in the inattentive subtype; your attention just goes too many other places at once). Also, why morale is vital: Without those motivating/reward chemicals one usually receives when doing something successfully, the brain goes "Well, we must not be doing anything right, or worth doing. We'll just conserve energy, until we find what is worth doing." And so, it actively FORCES you into a low-energy state. You get sluggish, unmotivated (even anti-motivated), tired more & more easily. Your attention span diminishes. Your reflexes dwindle. Eventually, your system is as depressed as your mood, you lay down to conserve that last bit of energy... & you don't care if you die. In this story, even if they successfully just routed the dopamine away from mood & toward movement (rather than suppressing it altogether), the Spartans really would've just become sad, atrophied lumps of human shape, with no motivation to do anything anymore. Except maybe twitching.
@mtiernan8773
@mtiernan8773 Ай бұрын
@ZaCloud-Animations___she-her I was always under the impression that it didn't outright suppress hormones and dopamine, just regulate it in the brain to extremely tight margins, so that they're essentially always in a "calm, unemotional" state.
@ZaCloud-Animations___she-her
@ZaCloud-Animations___she-her Ай бұрын
@@mtiernan8773 Well, If kept at flat enough levels to keep calm mental state, that still can have serious physical health impacts. The levels of hormones NEED to fluctuate in response to various situations & environmental stressors, or systems break down. Static adrenalin & cortisol levels during & after exertion, for example, would deprive them of the boost to strength, speed, reflex, visual processing, etc during dangerous situations (reducing survivability & capability), normal breathing & heart rate leading to insufficient oxygen exchange to make up for the energy burn, leading to dizziness & passing out... & leads to reduced ability to heal from injuries, increase in painful systemwide inflammation, broken muscle tissue not being properly cleaned up, stunted muscle regrowth, etc. The body needs to know it's been stressed, in order to apply extra resources to recovery. Though I guess their suits could inject them with an artificial cocktail of those in combat. But there are countless exchanges in the body that need to be tightly managed afterwards, which isn't very viable. Too little serotonin to produce happiness, along with obvious depression issues, can also lead to digestive & nutrition issues, & all the downfalls that come with it. Lots of other examples are out there, but I'm not as well-versed in those details. But oh well, it's science fiction which is allowed to bend the rules. But this show just has so much lack of critical thought, while still trying to take itself seriously, that it seems more like lazy writing as an excuse to create drama where there didn't need to be.

The moment John Buttcheeks took off his helmet in episode 1, I knew it was not going to be Halo and that we were getting garbage. Its such a shame that we got two very poor live adaptations of Netflix Resident Evil and Paramount Halo. The entire teams behind both of these live action massacres should never touch another video game adaptation. I really hope this whole "get a video game franchise and put it on our live streaming service so people have a reason to sub" dosent become a trend. Live action anime adaptations are bad enough.
@zeroattentiongaming820
@zeroattentiongaming820 Жыл бұрын
Live action anime isn't inherently bad, though I agree most shouldn't be attempted. Simply doesn't translate well to live action in most cases. The Bleach movie is the one example where I feel it was actually done well and the only reason I believe it is possible to translate an anime to live action and do it justice both as an adaptation and as a well made movie in its own right. Full Japanese cast that resemble the characters and the English version was dubbed over by several of the official dub actors. They somehow dubbed Johnny Yong Bosch over a live action Japanese actor and made it seamless for the whole movie. As for Resident Evil, I'd say I don't know why that series is still getting adaptations but I do. Capcom makes a shitload of money regardless of how good or bad adaptations of their work do. They don't give a shit how it turns out, they just collect a check. Which is kind of hilarious when they also make their own CG movies that are canon to the game timeline and at least feel like the more action heavy entries of the games. Not one of these live action RE adaptations has captured what made the series legendary. At most they will nail an aspect or two while completely screwing up everything else. Capcom's own CG movies don't capture what made the series legendary either but at the very least they do capture the batshit lunacy of RE4 and 5 in top form. Leon and Chris teaming up to clear a crowded hallway of zombies in Vendetta was fucking badass spectacle in the way only Capcom themselves seems to get right with the franchise. A Tyrant vs a pack of Lickers, that's just good dumb Capcom fun

If the inhibitor chip blocks his sense of taste it should logically also block his sense of smell. That means that John can't smell anything, like a fire or a sweaty man sneaking up on him. It makes no sense to have an inhibitor chip block any of the 5 essential human senses, just because you want them not to experience pleasure. The sense of sight can also be very pleasureable, depending what you are looking at, so why not also make your super soldiers blind? Why would you make human super soldiers in the first place, if your are going to take away some of their essential survival senses? I do not understand how such a completely ridiculous plot point made it into this show.

Taste isn't just to enjoy eating things, it's so you know if what you're eating is fuckin' rotten or otherwise going to demolish your intestines. Like it's fucking stupid. There's literally only downsides to it and it exists just to be grimdark and edgy. They gave us Reach to try and hang above our heads like a big brother taking our favorite toy, "lOoK, wE cArE aBoUt FaNs". Instead, a better way would be to use the actual name, New Alexandria. And maybe have actual fanfare, like an interaction with Noble Team, or at least Carter-A259. Hell, even a pelican flying over Sword Base would suffice. But alas, like many franchises and brands these days, they don't care about their fan base. Additionally, both Miranda, and Jacob Keyes, were ignored as original characters. Race swapped as with every beloved character. They botched the uniform design, ditching the uniforms given by Bungie in Combat Evolved. They also ignored the armor sets and the already established Mjolnir generations. He is in the Halo Infinite armor, Mjolnir Mark VI Gen3, while in this time he should be in his Mark V armor. I do think that Master Chief in a show or movie should remove his helmet, but only when it makes sense for him to actually do so, from his point of view. In the Mandalorian, every time they removed his helmet, it was done so with the purpose of strengthening his character. It wouldn't be hard to do that for Halo either. Just have Chief _only_ remove his helmet when he's alone with other Spartans. That way, you can show how strong the bond between them is, and how isolated they feel from regular humans.

@@eminstinct4114 it’s the fact they even if they put some canon aspects In, they still changed them to be dumb. The Spartans aren’t emotionless memory locked automatons. They look like that to the standard marine when in mission, but they remember having original families and feel emotions like anyone else. The whole point of taking them at 6 was to train them to contain those emotions and to give them the augments at puberty. They also have all always known they were taken and forced to do join; but at the end of it they all realize if they hadn’t become Spartans they would most likely have just been murdered by the covenant:

The Mandalorian is actually the perfect comparison. Because the writers for the Halo show said it wouldn't work if Chief kept the helmet on all the time because people wouldn't connect with him. What they mean of course is they didn't want to put in the effort, to connect with a character with no face the acting and writing need to be on point as you can't just use the old easy methods of "oh look hes showing a sad face so hes sad and you should feel bad for him!". They just went for easy mode.

Quite a bit more obscure maybe, but the same goes for Soundwave from Transformers Prime as well. Dude speaks literally once and never showes their face at all, and yet he tend to be a favourite in the fandom because of how much character the animators and writers gave him through his actions and bodylanguage alone. Not saying Master Chief should have been this completely silent, always helmet wearing character as well, but they could deffenitely have done him a likable character without dialogue.

I never liked the idea of the chip since it inhabits his ability to be sympathetic. I know in the games Chief comes off very stoic, but it’s only because he has to be. I don’t doubt he would follow orders. But John is extremely sympathetic to all people. He understands the role he plays for humanity’s survival. I believe he comes off as stoic because he knows he has to. No other human in history has been bestowed as much responsibility and pressure as him. He his humanity’s savior, he has to have the answers, he’s the one person that literally cannot afford to fail. Also the chips take a shot at John’s character. In a way, he reminds me of Captain America. Yes, the suits, Cortana, and luck help, but it’s his morality and selfless need for human survival that makes him a hero. He’s more than willing to sacrifice himself if it meant he could save people. He’s shown that throughout the games. But with the chips, by that logic, he wouldn’t.

Just a quick note. In my college, yes not even real world yet, the professor stresses that we have to pick an audience for our brand. It’s extremely difficult to please everyone, most brands start out targeting a specific audience then they expand. What the halo show maker did was not focusing on a specific group. They literally tried to attract everyone, from the fans, minorities, LGBTQ communities, young, old. And with that the message gets extremely confused and distorted Also the locations used in the shows are from the novels, and the stories that took place involving those places are amazing. Which is one thing I don’t understand, they could’ve literally just adapted it from the book, and the location will make much more sense and has more emotions connected to it

However, they also want the built-in brand-recognition that comes with these juggernaut gaming franchises to make money with, so they take the license, put in enough virtue signaling and diversity-hires to ward off any complaints from the twitter-crowd, then hype it up how they've updated and improved the story for current year. Like in the flashback scene when John talks to Soren, Soren is extremely British. And when John finds him on the asteroid years later he suddenly has no accent. It's like a really obvious continuity error and I think the creators missing a detail like that pretty much sums up the (lack of) quality of this show. Also I have to add that you could kind of tell from the get-go that the show would not be good. Anytime that a series has a super interesting plot by just being itself (like Halo actually does) and then decides to focus on some random ass teenage character....you know it's not going to be good because nobody gives a shit about *that character.* In this case Kwan, because she is just annoying and uninteresting. after finishing the show (about 5hrs ago now, just because S2 is coming up) I see what they were going for, I understand what they wanted to do. But it could've been done differently and better. The argument for being helmet off so much is to establish a connection with the character. Also why they humanized him so much with the emotions and the Halsey stuff, also Kai. The more interesting thing to do in my opinion would've been to use ODSTs and Marines to establish the threat of the Covenant and how hopless humanity was against them. Follow some ODSTs everyone knows they barely get enough love for a pretty badass troop. Then when things start going south call in the Spartans. Honestly, following ODSTs in a losing battle on a few planets, where Spartan teams are called in and work with them to establish the prestige of Spartans along with how they are the hope of humanity, I think would've resonated with the audience. Chief being the main spartan saving the lives of the ODSTs that people are growing attached to, i think would've festered some good faith and connection with Chief in preparation for the Fall of Reach. The way the show goes about everything. It looks like the Covenant finding Halo and Reach are Halsey's fault. Chief/Cortana had the opportunity to end or severely damage the Coveneant War effort by killing the Prophets in ep9 and didn't. Chief becomes a 'robot' as a result of sacrificing himself for his team and the mission (which while good takes away from the more horrific truths of the Spartan-II Program.) The show also paves a way for discord in the ranks as a result of Keyes compliancy and involvement in the Selection phase of the SII program. There is so much that could be changed for the better or even just elaborated on. The entire Madrigal plot could be dropped and we'd lose nothing. Makee was a contestable inclusion, but one that in some ways makes sense when you remember that only humans could activate Forerunner artifacts. Also they made Hood sound like your typical corrupt official that only cared about covering his own ass.

Someof what you said, yes, but makee as a character SHOULD NOT exist. The covenant throughout the Halo series is shown to absolutely despise humanity, specifically because they realized we can just intuitively react to forerunner tech. The covenant do not take human prisoners, let alone RAISE A HUMAN CHILD. Her mere existence is an affront to a major part of the lore that even allows for the story to take place. The only way for humanity to win the war in the games was to eliminate covenant leadership simply because the covenant would never hit the negotiating table because they hated us. The individual races were slightly different, for example the elites Hated being controlled and used and disrespected by the prophets and some of them eventually turned sides and worked with humanity.

I really agreed with Elvis when he said that when they tried to make Halo for everyone, they made it for no one. This pattern can be seen for many franchises. Companies just need to stop taking franchises that have a fanbase already and trying to change it to bring in more people from other fanbases, 9 times out of 10 it ruins the franchise for everyone, especially for the original fanbase because the formula that made them love that franchise is gone. Stick to the formula that works and that made Halo successful instead of trying to warp it to invite the larger masses, it ruins Halo! Also, great video Elvis.

You are somewhat right about covenant cells at 21:15. However, the example you first provided were forerunner/Promethean cells in Halo 5. We see covenant cells in Halo 1 on the Truth and Reconciliation and Halo 2, which you do show, of the brute walking the arbiter. The funny thing is, is that in Halo 1. Captain Keyes does learn what Halo is thru eavesdropping on the covenant in his cell. Even the creators wished they had better done this lore dump.

Yeah but in the game it makes sense that Keyes, a Captain who'd been at war with the Covenant for 30 years by that point would've learned some of the Covenant languages to the point where he can (albeit imperfectly) pilot a Spirit Dropship. It makes more sense because they're already on the Halo and the Covenant is talking about it heavily in the game. The creators at Bungie probably could've done better but they did way better than this show did.

I feel like a few of the problems with the show could've been solved or at least lessoned if the story took place when all the spartans were younger. Like maybe the UNSC were experimenting to see what worked best with the Spartan soldiers, so at first they tried making them into completely unfeeling robots who would blindly follow orders. However, in a few field tests, perhaps more than a few times the spartans (despite being completely advanced and enhanced) would fail at certain tasks because of that blocker inhibiting certain human functions. Maybe a few spartans, like Master Chief being the first one, begin removing their blocker after discovering it. They're hit with the all the human emotions and feelings that they've never felt. They become more reckless and feeling, a few of them dying or trying to go AWOL, but a majority of them manage to control those new impulses. During combat, the things that the blockers inhibited turned out to be massively useful to humans, such as spontaneity, confidence, improvisation, and even sometimes disobeying orders. The spartans were more freely thinking, viewing things from the human perspective AND the enhanced supersoldier perspective too, creating effective warriors. And perhaps the overall arc was the spartans realizing that emotions are necessary, but in the end many of them learn to also set them aside because they can get in the way. Perhaps Master Chief in particular almost goes back to his robotic ways after experiencing too much loss or something, which would explain why he's so cold and stoic in the main series.

It's like it was made for a completely different demographic, and that's not a good thing. Halo fans were supposed to be vindicated in that they could actually receive some top quality high budget expanded content in the form of movies and shows instead of mediocre novels, but instead were betrayed and left feeling confused and conflicted with who the show was actually for. The games are a simple enough story that even 8 year old me could follow, and it's honestly amazing how much they fucked it up.

As a Halo Fan, I always felt that the solution to the situation the game put me in were always given to me by the game through the environment. Exemple in Halo 3 first mission. At the end of the mission you find yourself in front of a bridge with a sort of small tower above tthe entrance. On the other side of the bridge is a very strong Brute with an Antigrav Hammer (aka one-shot-fucker). If you just run, you are dead, this bastard jump faster than you while swinging is two-handed-death-sentence. But if you're creative and think clever the game propose you two solution 1 : the tower first floor : First the tower will offer you some protection as the Brute wan't really go to the first floor (you will have to jump around to reach it) Second, there's a sniper rifle on the first floor and you can kill the Brute in two headshot with it. 2 : Covenant sniper : earlier in the mission you fought off several covenant sniper, if yout took one of their guns and kept it, you arrive at the bridge with a good fire power to stop the Brute. Btw the use of long range weapon will also allow you to save a squad of marines the covenant took hostage which is a cool reward (if you are fast enough) So basically to be good at the game you need to be creative and use your environment. Even in the lore, Kat, in Halo Reach, a Spartan, is the one who had the idea to blow up a covenant ship using a faulty ship engine using her knowledge in mechanic. Spartans are Creative, they're not buffed mindless drone

@@globeparasite9381 Pretty sure the UNSC and ONI even adopted some aspects of Spartan Creativity. Emiles helmet actually became a standard issue design due to its psychological effectiveness. (Mainly against Insurrectionists, though) And that Im pretty sure they let Spartans customize their armor too.

Here's an idea. What if instead of trying to make some kind of character drama using a character known for being a stoic action hero, you instead make a plot focused action series where the master chief is less of a character and more of a instrument. Meaning that he mostly follows orders in service of the plot. Let Halsey and Cortana be the dramatic ones and let Master Chief be the stoic warmachine. That would at least satisfy the core gamer audience and attract general action movie fans.

i’m one of those halo lore nerds and i gotta say i tried to like this show. the first four episodes i didn’t mind as much, since they were supposed to be setting up a new universe, but around ep. 6 or 7 it all went to shit. the plot had a stroke and couldn’t figure out where it was going, characters became the opposite of what they’d been barely written to be, and the master chief sex scene completely destroys all the lore. what a shame

fun fact: The Covenant when compared to humanity are extremely overpowered to the point that they were handing the UNSC their ass in most instances as is evident by Reach. That said they could have been much more OP if they made the choice to include humans into their ranks as many Forerunner artifacts were locked to them as they went left to the 'Reclaimers' or humans. Its the reason why Miranda and Johnson were required to activate the rings and why the Covenant couldn't do it themselves. That said the stupidity of the Covenant having a pet human in their ranks and there even being a war at all is so colossally that only a group of lobotomy victims could conjure it into existence.

nice pfp bro, nihilus fuckin wrecks but yeah, the show toyed around with some concepts that could've been really good if they just had the correct context for it all - like they got "unsc bad" but actually it's a woman trying to frame them for killing people they didn't even murder and not, i dunno, the unsc's *actual* crimes against humanity

Imagine if they did season 1 as the fall of reach? We saw a threat that slowly increase until we saw the full force at the pillar of autumn while Emile and six sacralise themselves. Maybe actually build up master chief and cortana a little as saviours and also giving new viewers a reason to doubt they’d succeed considering a team of 6 Spartans couldn’t do anything but slow them down for a few moments

Fun fact: A "madrigal" refers to an old style of choir music that was typically composed in the musical style of a hymnal but whose purpose was not religious in nature. The Encanto family being named Madrigal was almost certainly a play on that term, while I don't know if there is any meaning behind the naming of the planet in the Halo universe.

Here’s the funny thing about Reth: they could’ve fixed that entire plothole about how he knows everything about the Covenant’s religion if they just stuck to the games’ lore. You see, Reth isn’t an original character made for the show. He’s from the Halo lore. And in the lore, he wasn’t a human. He was a Jackal. A race prominently featured in the Covenant’s military force that would know about the Covenant’s religion, even if they didn’t believe in it since they were motivated by money. That way, Reth’s reason for going to the Rubble would make more sense since they’re also a band of pirates.

Something I will never understand is why Hollywood executives think they should always, without exception, shit all over the source material and warp it into something unrecognizeable. The situation with the Witcher should have been a blazing, unignorable red sign that they should be extremely respectful and close to the source material and it leads to success, and that as soon as they turn away from it, the project degrades immediatly in quality.

Yeah, the Show craps on the canon. - John didn't betray 066. Soren was a deserter, and John could/should of shot him or brought him in. - If you read the books, ONI had Gray team gathering intel on the Rubble. (The Cole Protocol) They were running guns and making deals with Jackals. It's not a reach that they found out during that time Soren was running pirate ops there. Soren would not have been combat operational if he stayed. Most of the Spartans damaged or impaired (that still lived) during augmentation ended up being intel or command. I can see why they didn't make a huge fuss to bring him in, even if ONI knew he was on the rubble.

When the series came to an end, as any other dude who thought the series was any good, I went to twitter to see how other people took the show. I was absolutely astonished by the amount of people praising the shit out of the show, but when I asked them why, they mostly resorted to "Show good, your opinion trash" kinda argument. I saw some critisism by people that actually played the game or were fans of the franchise and they mostly thought the show was trash.
