I enjoy your videos. I wish I had one of those Hamond with the Leslie speaker.

DUDE! James your crack on copyright people is so funny and so true. And I love how you included Claudette Cricket (reference a Mannheim Steamroller song from Fresh Aire III) in the video. That was very nice to acknowledge an aging starlet.

That is so cool James - so it is your very own now. Exciting ! Congratulations, nice find :) I can almost hear some of The House Of The Rising Son coming out of that organ. FYI, you can look it up, that song is in the public domain.

Peter, thank you for the heads up about The House of The Rising Sun. If I remember right it is a very old folk song. I like that song and would love to do a cover of it.

It's got an interesting history, just be aware most people with think of it as the song that became a hit in the 60's (my age group lol) by the group the Animals. It is interpreted as a song about a house of ill repute. The unique thing is the tune itself will fit perfectly with the lyrics of Amazing Grace and I sing it that way myself and sometime will intertwine the 2 sets of lyrics confusing the poop out of everyone. The Animals version has an organ solo in it that sounded much like the organ you played in this video :) You must have a very interesting life - I bet lots of people want to be you! :)
@ThePianoforever6 жыл бұрын
I think I will cover the song, but will write my own solo as I think someone owns the rights to the solo in the Animals version. I have been around music my whole life, and our family shares this passion.

That's a wonderful instrument in excellent condition! Check out Booker T and the MGs, Keith Emerson and Brian Auger if you haven't heard them, those guys really worked a special magic with the classic Hammond B3!

ThePianoforever Awesome! Looking forward to it. I subbed btw, and tomorrow I'll be at my desk for church, that of a Moller Artiste 2 manual organ with 6 ranks. Do you work in the field of music? I played a similar Hammond at one of my first church jobs when I was in my early 20s. They are fun to play.

hi james this is a great video. I know people that have played the hamond b 3 organ. they are artists that play organs. and do concerts around the world. also for us where I am a student, playing lowrey organs a friend loaned ne an old hamond. a had a hard time with it. I was a beginner then. and the teacher didn,t play that type of organ. so I gave itback

Honestly the Hammond organ is wonderful, and I love it so! I hope you are able to borrow the old Hammond back again.

I don,t know where it is since my friends have passed away some years ago. I am along time organ student at evola music. here in canton Michigan. and so is my sister we are in the same class . she has been playing longer than me I just entered my 13 th year as an organist. I just bought a lowrey legend organ . and gave them 3 older ones. I don,thave room for them. I was given the big one celebration. from a former class mates father as he had passed on.

Hi James, are you planning on adding a reverb? We did that to a C3 and it really changed the organ for the better. I just also got a C2 and plan on adding a digital one..it's not too hard

I can't believe the great condition it's in. I think the belt that drives the rotating chamber in the Leslie has likely stretched over the years and is slipping too much when you switch from celeste to tremolo. They normally spin up quicker than that. It's an easy adjustment. I think the belt is made of leather.

It looks even better in person. Our family has looked for about ten years for a B3 and Leslie, and finally found this one looking for a new home. The one concern of the owner was that it should never be gigged. He was just the second owned and it was quite clear he thought the world of it, as do I. I think it will need a couple of things soon. It's acting like a draw wire is broken, and a few other very small things. I think we will deal with them when we move it to the studio, as we are so busy as the moment.

The drawbar contacts tend to get dirty, making a gritty sound through the speakers when you adjust them. For that, there's contact cleaner. Key contacts also get dirty. Hammond owners don't get upset over the key clicks. They like it like that. I imagine when you move to your studio, you'll find lots of repair guys for Hammond's in Nashville. You might want to check out "A Whiter Shade of Pale" Procol Harum by Gary Brooker. KZbin whiter shade of pale procol harum live denmark 2006. It's a fabulous production. Gary sounds better than his first release. The B3 is in it's element. It will move you.

I have seen all the videos of the Whiter Shade of Pale, and love the Denmark version. I think that is the best version I have ever heard of a Whiter Shade of Pale by anyone at anytime. When I was recording this video I had a clip of a Whiter Shade of Pale that I was extremely proud off, but took it out over copyright issues. I have had videos removed over copyright issues , and don't want any trouble. The rules are the rules, and I will abide by them, others get away with it, but I don't want any strikes.

Very cool! A church I play piano for is lucky enough to have one of these organs with Leslie speakers. Too bad I hardly get to hear jazz or boogie on it. Hymns are nice on it too.
@ThePianoforever6 жыл бұрын
If they let you play it after hours I would hang out all the time.

ThePianoforever Haha. I do have access to it any time I want but I usually end up just practicing on the vintage Steinway. I'm more a pianist than an organist. Lol. We recently did have to replace the starter switch on the organ but otherwise it runs like a champ!

You have a 65 Hammond B3? You could sell that for $10,000 and buy a Roland VR-09 or something. Or honestly, Nord does a great job of emulation, you could buy a Nord C2d, then you'll have a Hammond style organ with 2 manuals and drawbars, plus all the other stuff that comes with it like the transistor organ sounds and drums and all that. Personally, I'd rather have that. Or you could just keep your super cool Hammond. That's up to you. Keep the Leslie though. Nothing really sounds like a Leslie. The Ventilator gets close for $400 but nothing really sounds just like a Leslie speaker. I like a scooped sound. When you pull out the high drawbars and the low drawbars but not the mid drawbars and make a kind of upside down U shape with the drawbars, you get a really cool like, jazzy, gospely sound.

I don't think you could ever get my fingers to let go of this B3. Everyone wants to believe that this or that sounds as good as a B3, but it just ain't so. I guess people think that the sound of a B3 can be made with a lot of transistors. If they thought like me my B3 would be worth $200,000.00, and I would have to settle for a bunch of transistors and circuit boards.
@PaulTheSkeptic6 жыл бұрын
Alright, a puritan. Cool. I get you. I know what you mean. But, it was like I was telling my friend just the other day. If you're a keyboardist, you could make like a rockstar and buy yourself a Hammond B3 and a grand piano, and a Fender Rhodes and a Whurlitzer, a clavinet, a poly synth, a mono synth and maybe a transistor organ for some groovy 60's sounds,... or you could buy a keyboard. But if you really can buy all those things, nothing beats the real thing. Not only do they sound amazing, but the look of a real Leslie speaker on stage is really cool. (I think with some models you can see them ramping up. Maybe not with yours.) So, super cool. Kudos and I'll stick around to see your Hammond organ videos. And I see a Lowry in the sidebar. I'll have to check that out. See ya later.
