Thanks very much for this demonstation. I've been a massive Genesis fan since 1971 and I still get the shivers up my spine when I hear even a snippet from a classic Genesis song. BTW, I saw you and your band a few years back in Bath when Tony McPhail joined you on stage for 'I Know What I Like'. Really enjoyed the concert.

I bet that was awesome seeing him live. This guy knows his stuff.

Fun little factoid... the Leslie that Tony used was built by John Mayhew (Trespass drummer) because he was a carpenter and Tony couldn't afford a real Leslie. Tony would run it on a rheostat to make the slow speed go slower. He said as the rheostat heated up it would start spinning faster and he would constantly have to get up from the organ to adjust it down. 😂

yeah, I saw that Wakeman interview. He also said his electric piano didnt hve 88 notes and he went for a note on Firth of Fifth that wasnt there and stopped playing.
@nonsuch3 жыл бұрын
@@turnerthemanc That's funny. I've always hated when he did the Firth intro on the RMI... It just didn't sound right. That has to be played on a grand piano.

I had a Korg CX3 and it had a foot switch for the leslie. I built a box with a 555 timer and relay and could set it to keep the leslie switching on and off automatically. Sounded fantastic.

Hans Camenzind should have won a Nobel for the 555.

You did the best sound demo of this organ so. I searched high and low for a sound demo and I’m glad I came across your video. Great job!!!

Nice run down!! I was kind of hoping you'd show the hammond sound paired with the mxr phase 100!! That's probably my favourite Banks sound, no joke. When he got rid of the leslie and started using the phase 100 for modulation, from 1977 to about middle 80's. Oh my, that was certainly a thing to behold!

I have been looking going on 5 years now, for a concrete explanation on Tony's organ tone around Wind And Wurthering/Seconds Out. That swirling bite his organ has is truly unique and exceedingly hard to replicate in software. The only phaser vst plugin that comes close is Sound Toy's Phase Mistress, and even then it lacks the brightness of the real Phase 100.

On The Knife, I heard the chorus effect instead of the fast Leslie effect.

That setting at 7:05 is a typical Matthew Fisher/Procol Harum sound (particularly from the album 'Shine on Brightly,').

I'm really interested to know what you play for the main Organ in 'In the cage' - I know the basic riff but as usual TB seems to be doing something 'extra'! - also the Hammond settings & effects setup would be interesting - want to set it up on my Kronos!

I could try and post a "how to" right hand plays Eb minor 2nd inversion, left hand plays B and Bb notes alternately switching to Bbminor in the right hand

This is the XK1, live I usually play an SK1 which is lighter weight. The XK1 however has a better keyboard action
