Step into the Pitch Meeting that started M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening! Subscribe for more Pitch Meetings: goo.gl/ho3Hg6
With the popularity of the similarly-themed BIRD BOX and the release of M Night Shyamalan’s new movie GLASS, a lot of people are getting nostalgic over the director’s bizarre 2008 film THE HAPPENING. After a couple of massive hits like The Sixth Sense, Signs and Unbreakable, M Night Shyamalan gave us a weird film that raised a crazy amount of questions. Like how can you outrun the wind? What’s up with the title? Why does the Happening just stop happening? And how the heck is Mark Wahlberg a science teacher?!
To answer all these questions and more, step inside the pitch meeting that led to The Happening! It’s super easy, barely an inconvenience!

I actually think this is the strangest movie in Hollywood history. Not some fertilizer salesman's effort to break into Hollywood but a fairly major motion picture with a crew and craft services and it was made and released. It's called "The Happening" and the amazing thing is: Nothing happens.

It seems crazy by today’s standards that it got made but this was not only riding on the goodwill of M. Nights prior work… it WAS the movie that caused everyone to realize he was never that great. Just kinda quirky at best lol

To take this way too seriously: that's exactly what it is. It's a B-movie. Everything that people laugh at, was intentional. It's mind-blowing that the entire world seems to have missed this. It's so, so obvious when you think about it. You just said it: in a film called The Happening, nothing happens. Maybe he should've called it Revenge of the Trees to make it more obvious...

One of the first mistakes! One time I was traveling by train, and before my destination they shut down the train and said that because of snow they had to stop. I got off and found that the whole city was shut down. And the taxicabs were not driving. And it was 18 degrees Fahrenheit. It was a miracle I survived. So yes they might very well shut down trains in a random spot in an emergency.
