@megamangman Ай бұрын
So, like, is the link that the plants are reacting this way because aliens came? Like antibodies attacking a disease?
@Screlz
@Screlz Ай бұрын
@megamangman No the plants actually had nothing to do with. Notice in the start how it's a long pan on the sky and the clouds. It's a bio weapon. The aliens tried in signs at first. The alien grabs the kid and tries to spray that stuff in his face. It's a chemical based on mood, emotion. It causes mass fear and panic. That's why in the happening, they show the sky in the beginning. The aliens managed to get the chemical airborne. People think its the plants. But when you see the plants swaying in the wind, it's to show the AIR is contaminated and blowing the chemicals wherever the wind takes. Why didn't Wahlberg get affected? Notice how he seems so kinda void of emotion. Now get to the third movie in the trilogy, and introduce cypher rage in after earth. How did the aliens not see you? Be devoid of emotion. 1000 years AFTER the happening takes place but also during the story of the aliens having fully invaded earth. Now you have to link the thoughts of after earth. In that movie everyone thought it was nature that could kill you. In the happening started the theory that it was plants and nature that was killing humans. Also notice in the end of the happening they showed that it continued all over the world. It wasn't the end. Also in signs it was a running theme that the water was contaminated. So yeah. I think my own personal theory is the actual aliens, not the humanoid looking ones in signs, but the after earth aliens, probably can only see humans if they are emotional? Maybe it's a pheromone thing and they see scent or something I dunno. But that other stuff links.

When Francis Ford Coppola had Robert Evans knuckling down on him, Coppola gave us the Godfather 1 and 2. When the Wachowski Bros. had Joel Silver leaning on them, they delivered Assassins and the first Matrix. I think Shyamalan needs someone like that, a power player who has the ability to stop him from being too self indulgent and keep him on task. Otherwise, Shyamalan will do movies like this, or the Village, or Lady in the Water, or the Last Airbender, or Old, etc. The man is a talented director, but he’s in desperate need of a “Jiminy Cricket.” Also, DT really should do a roast of both Food of the Gods.

Firewall and Hollywood Homicide need Bad Movie Roasts. 1 has Paul Bethany's action villain one liner "it's pizza night Jack" & 2 has classic Harrison Ford real estate jokes & Josh Hartnett yoga jokes.

One of my all time favorite unintentional comedies. I remember the promotions leading up to this joint coming out when I was like 13 and it looked so interesting back then. Once I saw it, I did love it but for all the wrong reasons lmfao.

I know Shyamalan tries to say he was intentionally making a B movie, but I don't buy that for one second. What's kinda sad is that the plot itself isn't bad. It could have been a solid psychological thriller. It could have gone very, very dark. The actual movie we got has scenes that should have been legitimately horrifying, but they're curbed by being sandwiched between godawful dialog and cheese. So much cheese. Someone who actually knows how to write human dialog and portray terror should remake this movie some day.

I understand why this gets overlooked when people talk about this movie, but one thing that REALLY doesn't do it any favors is the score. This isn't a film that should have a bombastic orchestral score; it should be minimalist and off-center. It's like the composer didn't realize that wind/plants were going to be the main threat in the movie, so he wrote a score that sounds like it should be accompanying a giant mutant creature ravaging a city, and it makes the occurrences come across even more ridiculous.
