Always remember this song. I said goodbye to my girlfriend in September and headed off to Viet Nam. I forgot Marine Corps tours were 13 months not 12. I survived, barely, but did see her the next October. And married her a year later.

I was 16 and lived in San Diego. Had a huge crush on Dee Dee Warner who lived across the street, unfortunately she had an older boyfriend, he was 19. But we still hung out because she had a car. True love. I've never forgotten her and this song was ours. Good times.

I agree that this would have been a great song for the Four Seasons to record. I have their "Looking Back" album (bought it new i 1967) and, sadly, it is not on it. Other great '50's songs are, however. Thanks for this post. I remember fondly the hits of the Happenings and am glad other generations are now being exposed to them.

I checked and can't find that The Four Seasons sang it. Another group that had sung it was Gerry and the Pacemakers. There is a site (Grooveshark) who lists The Four Seasons as singing it on their site but they are in err. It is The Happenings singing. I have contacted them about it.

@JrzFirefly maybe they sound alike, but Association never covered this........i thought the same when i had a cassette with Cherish and September on it in the 80's.....I looked it up and found it to not be true, however I found a few sites playing this song by the Happenings but listed them as the Association, much like the site Grooveshark did with the Four Seasons........

I actually like this version better than their original '66 recording! Just goes to show, some things besides wine improve with age :D

Pretty darn good sound for their ages. Nice harmony. Especially at an age where most singers lose their pitch and the vibrato gets really shaky. The brass was a great added touch.

I asked an experienced choir member about the voice and aging. He said age has nothing to do with it. There should not be a change. That being said, my own observations. Like Maureen Muldaur says, you must take care of your throat. You must warm up and practice. There are foods to eat and drink before a performance, and things to stay away from, plus how many hours to abstain from food before performing. Her video has many good tips (She's the "Midnight At the Oasis" lady). Also, I use a soft voice. I am not a "belter" like: Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, or that Aerosmith guy. Granted, they have great voices , power, and range, but how long can that last before burn out? No, I prefer using a soft voice, think Karen Carpenter. Use good quality microphone, such as an Electrovoice N967?, much better than a Shure SM58. Use very high volume on the microphone and sing gently and expressively into it. I am trying out newer wireless headset microphones. If you play an instrument, such as piano, having a microphone with a cord on a boom blocks your view of sheet music. Lapel microphones are good for one position. You turn your head and the direction makes the volume go away. So, a headset microphone, preferably wireless, keeps the mic piece against your lips for constant volume. I have to experiment with: VHF, UHF, digital, USB, bluetooth, and so forth. So, your voice is a delicate instrument one must care for. Eat, sleep, exercise, reduce stress in you life. Warm up, soft, expressive volume, good miking. Take care of your voice, it should last a long time.
@FAYEBESS14 жыл бұрын
Yeah, The Tempos and The Happenings recorded it, but The Association NEVER. By the way, the word NEVER is associated to them because of their hit "NEVER, MY LOVE" ( the comma here is very meaningful, otherwise it would change the meaning of the song completely). I like also Julie Budd's version. :)
