I like how he talks about creating positivity first, because a happier brain is much more a likely to perform better than at neutral, negative or stressed. So he starts his talk with a joke, sprinkles plenty of little jokes in there after that and then ends with all the important information. He is putting into practice the very information that he's preaching about. Awesome.

I didn't even notice this pattern in his talk, great observation :)

in short, don't bitch. my brother had this guy who was an acquaintance in college and his whole philosophy in life was "don't bitch" you start bitching you start focusing on the negatives in your life. being gracious and satisfied with what you have means you can become a better person. also following the golden rule can make you happy as well. this talk distilled: stop bitching, follow the golden rule.

Love Shawns work....have had the pleasure of hearing him speak live on 3 separate occasions. His message is powerful, and with the Harvard stats on his class there (physchology of happiness), is a clear indication of what people are really looking for in life.

The pattern I notice in most similar talks on wellbeing and happiness is: 1. try your best to be happy in the moment, don't postpone it or expect to experience it in the future; 2. write down the moments of your day/week/month that made you the happiest and read them at the end of the week/month/year to relive and remember them thus reminding yourself it's not all dark and there's plenty to be thankful for.

As a person who likes to think about what's being said, as it's being said, I had to slow the speed down and pause it in order to digest it haha! Wow that man can talk fast. I am so impressed by how he manages to speak so quickly and yet so eloquently - impressive.

It also might be to do with the social aspect of being in a room full of people having a good time. I assume that the people in the audience enjoyed being at ted, and therefore it became the norm to laugh at the jokes in a presentation/s.

Good explanation of how procrastinators fear success: they know if they succeed then the goalpost will be moved further and everything will get harder. So, it is better not to succeed and just muddle through. Our society breads procrastination.

Kinda depends on the mood you are in right? If you sat in the audience you might feel more room for laughter. I saw this style of presenting in Sir Ken Robinson so I couldn't enjoy it as much as a person who did not. What I'm trying to say: what you thought of this presentation depends on who you are, what you know and where you are. There is no yes or no answer.

Dear Mr. Achor, My unicorn really wants to meet your sister and Bobo...😇. Actually, I included your Ted talk in a playlist and I'm asking forgiveness, I mean , permission after the act. The playlist is called Adam and Eve is a love story ask God, part two. Part one is good place to start. Part two happened because I locked myself out of part one, and just ignore the stragler with no description, don't drink, so no excuse to offer for that list started and, locked as well. You are cordially invited to travel my avenue of thought in part one and two of already mentioned playlists. Your avenue has me out of traffic jams, so love you in my world. God bless you. So what I took from this is that I should smoke more pot now rather than wait till after I finish my work to get more dopamine to my brain so I can be 31 percent more productive at it.
