awesome video but i dont think emil has to stress about needing to talk or climb. take a min to rest and look at the boulder then you will get things to say when you describ what you are thinkin about. i want to know what goes through a 8B climbers head when they look at the boulder. same can be done with every grade of climber. just be natural and it will come. but dont feel stressed. the discussion of the boulde between niken and emil is awesome!
@smuir61044 жыл бұрын
That would make a cool series. The evolution of thought through the grades. Start with a newbie, then go up one grade an episode, each person climbing at their max, and ask them to explain what is going through their head as they try to work it out. It would be interesting to see the evolution as you go up the scale from someone who is new to someone that has built it up over years of practice and effort. Then a summary of the findings. Exploring the psychology of climbing. Eric if you do this idea I want to be your V5 grade, LOL.

So I don’t think limit bouldering is the right session to do with this format. Gotta give Emil some rests. Video seems rushed. It would be a great format for like a max number of V8 boulders in 15 mins.

Very nice Video and i liked the concept of it! Actually crazy how fast emil projects such a hard boulder. I realy thought emil would probably rush his attempts a little since the camera is pointed at him for 15 minutes straight, but that's actually his normal resting routine. Very strong! Also, probs to Eric for making this video look so smooth and steady, you are a great Filmaker! Chears from Switzerland :D

I really liked this video! I want to talk about one take sequences from a filmmaking perspective for a moment. They are done sparingly for two main reasons I see, 1. The planning/intricacies of it and 2. it needs to service the stories. Eric, you did 1 very well, you knew where to go for each shot of the boulder and you kept it dynamic during rests and between boulders; great job. For 2. the service of the story, examples like the hallway fights in Daredevil or Oldboy (original) are great to show it. These fight scenes show how tiring it is, adding to the characters and story. Eric showed this very well with Emil, we saw the effort and how tiring it is, adding to the suspense and intensity of these climbs. I think this elevated the hype for us audience members watching it, and I appreciated that. Not saying all the videos should be one takes, it is a specific tool used for for specific sequences in storytelling, but I appreciated its testing and use here. In my personal opinion, one takes can and should be used in specific parts of bouldering videos as opposed to the whole video (except in this case), you did a really good job with this one!

I really liked it, I like hearing he and Niken talk through it. It also made me feel better; I am the worst rester there is. I just want to go non stop, not waste a minute when I'm in the gym. I'm no good compared to Emil, but at least I can say we share the same mentality. You guys make this look really good for not editing, for most of us we would not have the practice of hundreds of videos, so I don't think ours would look as good. I also think if you could climb with someone, so it forces you to rest while they are on the wall. I think people could film more group sessions with less editing.
@joakimbergstrom43474 жыл бұрын
this was fun, but yeah, I think the stress of having to do it in fifteen minutes, made Emil talk more than necessary. All seemed abit stressful. But I love this idea, single shot episode. For sure it could've been more than 15 minutes.. unless that's your cameras limit that is. Cool!

seeing emil struggle on the 2nd problem made me, for some reason feel really good about myself, cos I love that kind of problem, and deffenately plays to my strengths, would love to have a go on it to see how i compare, as most of the Problems he sends Effortlessly I wouldnt have a hope in hell of doing, Emil is an absolute Beast but love Nikkens climbing as he takes it a little bit slower and more controlled alot of the time, which is more the style I aspire to achieving.

Really interesting, that video *seemed* a lot shorter than the cut/edited videos, even though it's not. Definitely the fact that it's really just 15 minutes of climbing I think takes away from the feel of the video. Even if another video that took you 5 hours to film for just 10 minutes, would feel like a longer video. So the answer is, yes, you can make a video with minimal editing skills, but is it the right thing to do.

I liked the no cut style, I wouldn't be bothered if there was more silence because there was nothing to say. Maybe the camera guy can think of some questions to ask during if you feel there should be some audio. How long did it take to set? Home many sessions do you think it will take to send? What would you change if you had to lower the grade? Stuff like that maybe... great video nonetheless.
