This has been the hardest thing I've ever done. But I think it's the most important.
I've written a book called "Becoming Free Indeed." This is a book about me and my spiritual journey, a journey of disentangling truth from lies. In it, I share stories from my life-stories that nobody saw while the TV cameras were rolling: stories of fear and uncertainty but also of discovery and hope.

Despite the fact Bill Gothard has already been renounced by many others in the world, this is a change that feels very real when Jinger was willing to refer to Bill Gothard and IBLP by name. There is power in calling out specific names and institutions. In the latter years of the show, IBLP functions would be alluded to but they would never directly mention them. It’s like the elephant in the room & I’m glad Jinger is having no more of that. I also respect how clear she was in her talking points: it’s not a tell-all and it’s about her journey, her empowerment to break away without losing a part of herself she wanted to hold onto. She’s still the same person she has been and is showing class. Also she’s smart enough to know people will probably think she’s doing a tell all for money and so she just clears the air. But leaves enough ambiguity that people will have to buy the book to see what’s inside! Yes ma’am, great promo Jinger never lose your spice

Your story is still awesome and valid however, for clarity sake, depending on which sect you are referring to, members of the Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-Day Saints aka “Mormon” are a Christian based religion centered around Jesus Christ. Your story indicates you left a non-Christian religion for a Christian one. Unless you left a polygamist sect (which are not recognized by the church), the church adamantly teaches both old and New Testament in the Bible. The Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ when he visited the people in North America and echoes the same themes as the Bible, including the beatitudes and the atonement. ❤

This is so great! It is so weird to me when people hold so tightly to things that are not in the Bible. I guess we as human beings are so prone to wanting to follow some type of law and rely on our own efforts even when Jesus says we can’t. I think His grace and mercy isn’t comforting to some Christians! If we all accepted that even our best efforts are like filthy rags to God, maybe we would care less about wearing jeans vs skirts, certain words and phrases we say to appear righteous, and any of the other things that just distract us from Jesus. As He says, His yoke is easy and his burden is light. Some Christians feel better following a heavy burden they create. Jesus wants our hearts and from there He will do a work in us. It would be her father's loss if he cut off his children due to different theologies. But if he did, that would make him a narcissist. I would encourage Jinger to take some psychology courses so she can better guard herself in the future. I don't know enough, but I read her current church has had some scandal over telling abused wives not to leave their husbands because that would be a bad witness of God's love. And that church members shouldn't report abuse unless they truly believe he will kill her. I hope that's not true.

SO courageous of you Jinger. I know this will cost you with family relationships. I am 71 and over the last few years have FINALLY questioned my upbringing in a very conservative Christian church. Well done Jinger!💖I am so very proud of your courage and bravery!!! This had to be difficult, but the rewards will be endless! You have the power to reach so many hurting people and help them, too! Just wait, when people start writing to you about their newly found freedom and happiness! All because of one sentence you wrote. The one that hit them hard in their heart! Which, made them painfully look inward. Then it began, they really had to face all those deep rooted emotions and bravely, courageously, start their journey as you once had!👍 You will feel so grateful, Jinger, when you really see how many lives you have been able to shift into understanding, happiness and freedom! Congratulations on your book and your freedom!🤗❤️🙌

Thank you so much for writing this book. I can not wait to read it. I will be able to see things thru your eyes. And for that, I thank you. No matter what anyones religion is, they should be able to decide for themselves what they believe and what they don’t. You were raised to believe things a certain way. Now as an adult, you are beginning to see that everything you were taught is not necessarily what you believe. That’s ok. We all should have that choice. Trust that God will see you thru this. Thanks for having the moral courage to share this. Coming to my faith at 17 (not growing up in it) I can see the draw to the teachings of IBLP. So often the draw to things like that comes from a genuine place of wanting to please and honor God... and, when you have children, to do your best to keep them from what you escaped from. Since I didn't grow up in the faith it is easy to over-correct and want to do everything PERFECTLY and therefore add rules that are extra-Biblical. I am sure soo many that have been drawn into it had the most noble and loving intentions. It seems that you are handling this with grace.

That’s a great description of my experience. I found the Duggar family (and IBLP through them) in my 30’s when I had two fairly young children. I tried following the teachings I learned as best as I could without actually being involved and without a supportive husband. My kids eventually tossed what I tried to teach them. They haven’t given up their belief in God but they never really learned how to walk with Him. My church was very legalistic as well, although I didn’t realize it at the time. So many years wasted and now just trying to coax them back. It’s challenging enough to manage my own faith journey.

Man may very well lead us astray, but God's word never will. You are so right to examine your faith! Prayers for you as you move forward in this journey. I believe you will touch many lives.
