looks like the sentence is so mild because they struck a plea deal for a confession. he confessed to kidnapping but not murder. maybe her family lacked the funds to pursue a murder conviction but this seems a miscarriage of justice to give her killer such a mild sentence and avoid first degree murder conviction.

Am I the only person who, if told by a friend or loved one that they didn’t feel safe home alone, would insist on seeing them? Either crash there for the night or have them come over. Same with night shifts. If an employee told me they didn’t feel safe one night, I’m out the door before I hang up the phone. Not meaning to put blame on anyone, it’s just I couldn’t even imagine having someone tell me they felt paranoid and unsafe and just saying “good night” and hanging up.

My Mum does this - I live alone and I'm 25, have mental illnesses and came out of an abusive relationship a few years ago and If I had called my Mum and told her I feel unsafe, worried, paranoid or in danger she would basically beg me to come over or she would find someway of having somebody with me, then again she's a bit of a helicopter parent lol

I'm someone who suffers with anxiety and paranoia like Valerie did, and I think a lot of my friends and family would do the same thing as hers. I could be making a drive that I've done a thousand times before, then suddenly get hit with the feeling that I'm _definitely_ going to get into a crash and die that day... I'm practically convinced that the universe itself is telling me to prepare for my inevitable death, and well, I'm still alive. Talking on the phone or keeping a consistent conversation going over text until I say goodbye/goodnight is exactly how the people in my life deal with my anxiety.

I've told my wife multiple times, if she ever has a bad feeling about someone or something, to immediately call me and I'll walk her though what to do. We've discussed and practiced some things like break ins and stuff, but even if she can't put it into words, I want her to listen to herself. The subconscious is so fast at analyzing input that the conscious doesnt have time to notice. I have told her I will never judge or second guess her if she is worried. I dropped everything one day 2 years ago, came home from work early, and then that night our car was broken into so I know it's not just that she's paranoid. She might have seen someone walking by hours earlier a little too slow and not made a connection consciously. Regardless, we take those instincts seriously in my house.

Her mom tried to get more information about why she was feeling afraid & thinking she may be harmed & she wouldn't tell her. It's not like her mom just brushed it off & didn't try. She reassured her mom that everything was fine. You can't help somebody if they won't tell you the problem. It's tragic but not their fault. I'm just curious as to what you think they should have done because from what I can see there really wasn't anything they could have done differently except maybe push her even more to tell them why she felt that way & even then that doesn't mean she would have done so.

@@pineapplesyumyum Suffocation (or drowning) is the absolute worst way to go. Strangulation does limit blood supply so it's quicker (although takes SEVERAL minutes). But suffocation can take many hours and with each passing minute our bodies cry out for more oxygen which never comes. According to experts who study fear, this is causes the most potent anxiety that we can feel. Period. If murder isn't bad enough, suffocation or drowning has to be the worst death imaginable and that's saying a lot.

It's a difficult situation. Having an anxiety disorder myself, I've worked hard to discern between illogical reactions that stem from my disorder and instinct that's telling me I'm in a dangerous situation. That's after years of CBT and reading about the biological underpinnings of my disorder though. It's hard to know your own reactions when you have chronic anxiety, let alone someone else knowing. It's all very subjective depending on what the anxiety sufferers specific triggers are too. I'm just saying it's not that simple.

I told him I was dating somebody else which was true ( my husband now). He didnt believe me and started sending me messages saying that he will kill himself because of me and that I will be responsible for his death. After so mamy creepy messages he showed up at my place amd started to scream " its over its oveer"on my window. I never had even a close friendship with him I just knew him from my yoga class. I was very polite and respectfull to him always. Everytime he would ask me on a date I would simply politely explain that I was comited to somebody else. I never treated him badly in any way I just didnt wanna go for dinner with him. I ended up moving to a diferent house because I didnt feel save there. Maybe I was just paranoid after what happened. One day I checked his insta to make sure he doesnt live in my same villatge anymore. I saw he is teaching stuff about how to be an " alpha male" and hate woman basically. If a person is a bit mentally sick or have huge mother issues it doesnt matter how do you interact with that person. Even just by going to the same class they may go for you, sadly

@devonjohnston6570 did I ever state that I women won't date me? Always assuming we are unsuccessful just because we say anything, even remotely negative towards women. Ever make an observation? That's what I did. It is common knowledge women friendzone a lot of good guys and yet have nothing but complaints against the men they choose to date. It doesn't take rocket science to deduct that they simply make horrible choices. Yes, there are horrible guys pretending to be nice. But those are very small percentages. Most men are just average, but that's not good enough these days due to the abundance of options women have. We as humans will inherently choose the best options. Never said anything wrong with that. I'm simply saying that since most of the time they choose these men, then they simply have to love with the consequences of their poor decisions. But go ahead and make this personal and all about me. Ha. Too many women on this planet for that to ever be a real issue if you are simply willing to broaden your scope as a man

It is likely to be a plea deal. Plead guilty to a lesser charge and serve time and end the trial sooner or it would go to murder trial and likely get a harsher sentence after who knows how long it would take. Apparently he was only charged with kidnapping...:DA SILVA, 25, pled guilty to one count of kidnapping. " Don't know why he wasn't charged with at least criminally negligent homicide, but found this online also .... "A Department of Justice spokesman confirmed that they are “working to find a resolution of the case without a trial.” The murder charge against da Silva means he could get the death penalty or life in prison. It seems likely that any deal would mean the death penalty is off the table." Generally speaking, I think before they do plea deals like this they consult with the family first.

After this I started meeting her less and less and it was so severe, I actually haven’t celebrated Halloween or gone out for Halloween in 6 or 7 years. Man, hearing she suffered from anxiety and depression really hit home. Crazy how it’s so many of us do. I’ve been struggling with that since I was a child and even with medication and therapy for years, I still struggle with them. I’m so sorry for what happened to this beautiful young lady…

your channel is legitimately the only one where I don't skip the ads. i loved your videos even before you started taking sponsors, so I'll happily support you after. you're easily my favorite true crime KZbinr and perhaps the best companion for housework, packing, reorganization, etc. (all of which I've had to do a LOT of lately). thank you, Adrian, for the stories you share and the clear care, respect and effort that goes into each and every one of your videos. 💙

It's not really strange to like how someone smells. Our sense of smell is one of the first memories that we make as a individual. Perfect example, you remember the smell of your mother. You instinctively know her smell. That's how you know who your mother is before you even see her because you've learned her scent. Not sure if most people know this, but when we're first born and for like I think weeks afterwards or eyesight's pretty horrible considering we've never had to genuinely use it before. So a child will actually learn its mother by her smell and her voice before it will her appearance. I remember a lot of my ex-girlfriends by the perfumes that they would wear and I remember my wife by the scent of her shampoo. Not that she's passed away or gone or anything. I just smell certain sense sometimes and her image springs to mind

Yes, nothing strange about this, but naturally, it just carries a creepy vibe when you know the person is a murderer.

The saddest part is, he didn’t even know her that long or together that long!!! That just shows how great of a person Valerie is… to make a crazy man fall in love with her in such a short period of time to do that to her when he gets his heart broken. & that just shows how freakin crazy he is! Like dude you wasn’t even with her for years… it was jus a short little time! Like why???? She’s so beautiful & im happy she got justice but I wish he can rot in there forever !
