Vikings Fan here. I'm excited about our QBs. If Sam is balling out, let JJ sit. There has never been a rookie qb in the Superbowl, and it's probably for good reason. Only like a quarter of QBs over the past 20 years have started week 1, and of those, only a couple actually got a ring in their career. Sitting isnt a bad thing. It just means we got some depth to play with. Skol.

One thing I find crazy is how almost every failing franchise's fanbase thinks that a rookie QB can start fresh out of college. Meanwhile you look at every elite QB and they had at least 1 season to learn and get adjusted to the league from a veteran QB. Tom Brady learned from Drew Bledsoe, Drew Brees from Doug Flutie, Patrick Mahomes from Alex Smith, etc. The Green Bay Packers have this down to a science, currently having three elite QBs in a row: Brett Favre -> Aaron Rodgers -> Jordan Love. I only elite QB that didn't need a prep-season was Peyton Manning, who is basically once-in-a-lifetime generational talent at the position from day 1 (although a prep-season might've helped his anger management towards kickers). Either way, glad to see the Vikings are actually giving McCarthy a fighting change in the league.

C.J. Stroud was prepared in college to go into a dumpster fire in Houston, without anything close to the support staff JJ has in MN. Remember, Nico Collins may have just signed a ridiculous $70M contract, but lets be real; Nico was a passport and bus ticket away from finishing his career in Canada before Stroud showed up, and that Houston O-Line never had a consistent lineup. JJ is a college level baller who was never asked to do anything at Michigan that would prepare him to be a starting rookie QB.

As a Michigan fan. I think if the Vikings allow JJ to develop naturally he will become a franchise QB. Now if you want to get him in on day 1. He better be ready. This grand plan MN has for him, "everyday for a decade is mapped out!" is at best naive and at worst is outright stupid, a plan where the worst case scenario is the most likely outcome. Because this grand plan all hinges on Sam Darnold. The most likely thing to happen is Darnold is what he has been his entire career (not QB1 material) and the Vikings start the season 1-4, -1-5, the media begins tearing them apart for not starting McCarthy, the fans start complaining, the pressure builds until McCarthy gets thrown in the deep end, made QB1 without an offseason of first team reps and not nearly as ready as he could have been.
@drewengel70736 ай бұрын
McCarthy will not play unless he is ready, they still have Nick Mullens as the backup. Every single coach and front office personal have safety in knowing that they aren't getting fired this year. The national media and the larger NFL fan community might complain about not staring McCarthy, but fans of the team and local media are perfectly fine if he doesn't play a regular season game this year.

@glennpelton48874 ай бұрын
You didn't watch close enough. Run game only averaged 169 yards per game (84th). Corum only had four 100-yard games and Edwards one. Twenty of Corum's twenty-six TDs were from inside the five and one was from the six-yard line. So only five were over ten yards. J.J.'s passing is what got them inside the five all year. Michigan was constantly at third and long. On third and long J.J. was 36 of 49 (74 %) 6 TDs, 0 INTs, and averaged 15 yards per completion. All Michigan QBs are handoff merchants. That's why they don't get 5-star QBs. J.J. was all set to go to Ohio State but Ryan Day took McCord. That's the only reason Michigan got J.J. Also J.J. practiced everyday against the best defense in the country and showed out. By the way, J.J. had more pass attempts than Harbaugh and Brady.

Slingin’ Sam Darnold is our cat for 2024. McCarthy needs to watch, WORK and learn, cuz the world is going to be watching to see if he’s NFL at all. And that’s Truth. We’ve all lost count of how many 1st round QBs bust in this league. Here is my advice to both: Slingin’, this is it for you. 100% of your mind body and soul in 2024, this is your window to the rest of your career. J.J. Mac: sponge everything. Get Brady, Peyton, Elway, Marino, find a mentor or mentors. Absorb all that vibe. There is no next team, no next year, no rebuild. It’s all now. It’s a big burden, we all know that, but you need to zen all that. You can do it.
