Josh Allen and the Bills did not get a chance because the Chiefs scored a TD. The 49ers didn't scored a TD, they made a FG. And by doing so, they would have give the ball back to the Chiefs anyway.

Great video but I disagree that deferring is necessarily the clear better option. 1) 49ers defer and mahomes scores a TD... You've now given the kc defense the knowledge that they only have to stop a TD not a fg. 2) if you do actually score a TD because you are clutch ass ballers, now you're giving mahomes the first possession where all he needs is a FG. Has any team deferred in the playoffs since the rule changed? Even if neither team scores, you want to be the first team with the ball in your hands when "a fg to win" applies. I think deferring in OT is just always the wrong move, even with the new rules.
