The sensor of the Hasselblad X1D is producing 16bit raw photos as most medium format sensors do, instead of the common 14bit raw photos of full format cameras. The 2bit difference may look insignificant but the post processing of raw photos permits a tremendous recovery of shadows and highlights. For me that's the major difference between digital full frame and medium format cameras. Of course nearly all digital medium format cameras use Sony digital image sensors for many years.

The tones on that band shot looks very filmy. I'm very familiar with film photography and its good to know this baby is magical.

0:53 Jesus compare he X1D to the GFX sans grip. You keep using photos of the GFX with grip to exaggerate the size difference. Put the grip on an A7 or A9 and they will be as big as a Leica SL.

For “street fashion editorial” I am trying to decide between this and SL ... which one do you suggest?

Fuji GFX is king!!!

King off what? Not for a walkabout medium format that one can put in a tiny bag and take hiking, or take on a bike ride or take anywhere, anytime. The X1D and Fuji are kinds of nothing. They are a choice one makes depending on needs. If those needs are portability, then the X1D wins. If the needs are a joystick, the Fuji wins. ; ). I wouldn't buy the Fuji for $1500 as I would never use it or take it anywhere, so it would be a waste for ME. Maybe not you, but you may shoot on a tripod, you may not mind a heavier bulkier kit and you may not mind more buttons and dials. The Fuji will appeal to some and this will appeal to some, but for the most part, 35mm full frame will appeal to a lot more.

The bokeh on you wide open shots is just not that pleasing. The b/w conversations also seem flat.

Well, I showed OOC B&W shots, just using the Sat slider down to 0, I have shown the same with a contrast boost, but none are serious B&W conversions here. I state here I am showing the different looks one can get, low contrast, higher, etc. But never judge by KZbin, judge by seeing them at the site or the full files.. Also, many accused the $7k Leica Monochrom as having very "flat" B&W output but it is one of the greatest B&W cameras one can buy. The X1D can create B&W images that mimic film (flat) or more modern day. The results of most modern day B&W images are from lower DR, so they are high contrast and punchy. This camera can do that as well. When working on serious conversions I have not seen anything better this side of the Leica Monochrom. You can make them any way you want to look, due to the huge DR.Also, as I sate in the review (at the site), this camera has a learning curve to processing the files as they are nothing like something you get from a 35mm camera. With time, and figuring out how to best edit the files, they will shine much better than what I am doing with them here. Thanks for watching.
