The Hateable Socialite - Why We Love to Hate-Watch Her

From the Kardashians and Paris Hilton to Emily Gilmore and Moira Rose, we relish the lives of real and fictional socialites, people whose job is just to be in the upper echelons of society. In part, watching these people feels like wish fulfillment. But we also crave stories about socialites’ downfalls - stories that allow us to experience a certain schadenfreude and a sense of superiority over those who are so above the rest of us in terms of money and status. The socialite embodies the best and worst America has to offer - but they just may be more complicated and less in control than we think.

My second day of PLEASE asking for you to do a video on "The Wife Guy" which are celeb men who make loving their wife or partner so much and being "the married guy" a huge part of their overall personality but then go and cheat on them and destroy that part of their image like John Mulaney, Adam Levine, Ned Fulmer and Anthony Ramos. Like These men made monogamy cool and were seen as refreshing for being so in love with their partner and like talking about their wife like she is some kind of goddess so we all thought they would all stay the course and like be the proof that love is real but then they only go and prove that even those most vocal about being in love can hide dark secrets.

Imagine if you were rich, young, and attractive. When that’s not enough and you’re still bored with your life because you didn’t accomplish anything to earn it, that’s when you’d need an audience for some kind of (false) purpose. You can’t party all the time with no real goals. It’s monotonous. You’ll start to question why you’re here at all. I was asking myself this few days ago! They are not that good people (seen from their own shows and heard from their own voices) and still they are so popular... P.s. it's the money... And people dreaming of it - security and comfort that it can provide (most of the time). And beauty that can be enchanced with it, but all for that sense/feeling of security we all seek. We of course look for it in the wrong people, but socialites are wealthy people who actually want to show us inside glimpse of their lives... Other, maybe more quality, wealthy people do everything to keep their privacy so we have no "entrance" there...

0:35 It's strange that they took THIS scene from KUWTK to illustrate how the rich have no real problems, when in fact there were so many underlying family issues in this scene. Kim's superiority complex, Kourtney's selfishness, Kris's obvious favoritism and how it all came crashing together. Sure it seems like a dumb fight in surface but in reality those are the kind of family issues that really hurt an individual (here Kourtney) and hurt a family's dynamic as a whole.

There's truth to this, but there's some nuance you're missing. There definitely is real good, high-effort entertainment out there, but the problem is: many great creators are bad business-people, while many bad creators are great business-people. So because of this, stupid tik-tokers dominate the market (for awhile) because they know what it takes to market themselves & because they're greedy & "money-minded"..but that only lasts for so long if there's nothing timeless & universal about their work. But if you combine great creators with great business-people, they create the best content ever made; Game of Thrones (seasons 1-4) being one of the top 5 shows of all-time is proof that smart, high-effort content ultimately wins in the end IF it has the right business-team to get it to the right people.

There is a difference between having a great character and being a good person-my definition of good person being: someone that does the right thing more often than not. Many rich and powerful people are charismatic, friendly, and attractive but have millions if not billions of dollars while millions of people go without their basic physical needs being met and dying because of it. Rich people can have plenty of life difficulties such as, chronic illnesses, complicated love lives, or family issues, and we can empathize with them. That doesn’t erase the harm these people do on the daily by not using their privilege to help others and building their wealth on the backs the impoverished and abused. In summary, rich people can be friendly and have issues, that doesn’t mean they aren’t fucking monstrous for hoarding their money and not dismantling the systems that made it possible to become that rich in the first place.

I could never feel sympathy for people who are THAT rich. In our world having this amount of money = take it from the ones who are starving and working to death for nothing. I would never understand rich people not knowing what else to do with their millions when our world is like this.

People who hate on them are people who feel inadequate, and find it hard to live up to the celebrity standards, even though no-one is expecting them to. Therefore, they put them down and act like they are superior, when in fact, they feel super inferior. Whether they do it with "I don't care" (because it is super popular to not care about anything these days), "she is garbage" or something else.

Usually I enjoy your videos but phrasing the leak of Paris Hilton's sextape as lesson to be learned and "being humbled" when what happened to her is form of sexual abuse? Awful, victim shaming and implying that sexual abuse is a righteous punishment. Where is your tact?
