When young Nellie's voice kept saying "I was here and you didn't see me, I was here this whole time" at her own funeral while her ghost was watching her family leaving. That got me.

In episode 10, Poppy Hill recites a poem to Hugh Crain about how a person (male) killed the Garrot family. Who was these Garrots ? Did they live in the house earlier ? Who murdered them ?

The most horrifying scene that sticks with me is when Nelly gets hanged, and she’s falling with her bent broken neck through the darkness into her all her old memories. She keeps falling without stopping and she has no control over it as she plummets to her death. It was so horrifying and sad to watch.

I think one of the most horrifying things Poppy showed the mom was the nightmare of the twins basically describing their adulthood, like when Luke described taking drugs as taking poison. That’s horrifying for any mother to hear, so in Mom’s messed up mind, she was saving them from a horrible future by killing them.

@@lovely1641 the house had broken her down by that point and her reasoning was compromised. The old woman ghost tried to warn her but by then it was too late. Unfortunately, both her kids’ futures would have been avoided had she not gone crazy because of the house.
@sarasolen
@sarasolen Жыл бұрын
The Nellie/Luke storyline with the house showing Olivia their futures is the most interesting to me because of the complexity of it and the layers to it. I think a lot was connected together. I believe because Nell and Luke saw the most and heard the most, they were affected the most and got PTSD and trauma that carried throughout their adult life, that resulted in Luke’s addiction and Nellie’s anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts. But also, it’s explained by many throughout the show that the house is what killed Nell. And I agree with that too. In addition to her issues, she was prompted in specific directions and ultimately into her death. Nell and Luke wouldn’t suffer their things if it wasn’t for the house giving them trauma. So I think I see it as everything being planned by the house. It showing Olivia her adult children suffering; dead and dying, and her being manipulated into killing them as children to keep them safe forever. It was the house’s fault that Nell and Luke suffered through trauma, but it’s putting the blame on the world doing it to them and planting that same mindset in Olivia’s head. “The big, bad world outside is gonna be the problem.” But the world IS bad and scary, and that’s life. I think more than anything, the house just held onto the people that were there and wanted to keep them there. I don’t believe it was even really evil, but it was twisted and sad and desperate.
@val5516
@val5516 7 ай бұрын
Luke wasn’t describing the drugs as poison, at first we think that but it was actually poison. I don’t know if you missed it, but in the final episode, he doesn’t take heroin, it’s the rats poison his mom tried to used on them before, so the premonition of his death it’s not overdose, it’s the house literally poisoning him

The parts that really got me were the subtle ones or the ones that are just in your face, like when the bowling hat man, just casually walked through the house towering over everything while young like just stood there, also the unknown things like the scratching in the wall, Mr. Smileys face in the wood, etc. I think what really made this show scary a lot of the time, was because I felt the characters fear, the show allowed me to get to know them and I was worried for them when they were scared.

They did explain it. During Theo’s dream in the red room, the illusion told her that he “built a house” to keep away fear and guilt, who are sisters. @@chrismadison305 I think it's more like Nell's husband really did have an aneurysm, the vision of Nell's death going backwards in time is because of her psychic ability triggering on her death and realization she is her own trauma. First figuring out at death that the bent-neck lady was herself, or at least a vision of her death. Then that vision is linked to those traumatic moments she remembers seeing the lady, actually appearing to herself back in time. It's now a chicken or egg thing where her death was always certain, and that's why her own psychic powers allowed her to see herself as the bent-neck lady at those moments. But the bit with Nell's husband, it's more like he did die, and that was a traumatic moment, so there's a link from her future-death (bent-neck lady) to that moment. Then-Nells blamed the bent-neck lady, but it's more like she naturally replayed that traumatic moment when she died, and so her bent-neck self appeared to herself in the past at that moment.

Luke’s story absolutely destroyed me. I briefly worked with addicts, and it’s hard to explain to people who have never known an addict, why I always say we should separate the person from their deeds. The amount of people I’ve seen who were honest to god good people, but did all kinds of things they were ashamed of while in the throws of their addiction…it’s heartbreaking. And those bad acts alienate them from the people in their life, which makes them more ashamed, which drives them further into their coping mechanism: their drug. Going back and forth in time with Luke’s story…to see him as this cute, curious, innocent kid, and then seeing him as this lonely, suffering, adult…it really affected me. And that had nothing to do with the classic “horror” themes of the show.

I wondered this too... oddly though in the last episode, when Nell is explaining the Red Room, you'll see that it shows Luke talking to himself in the tree house asking how to spell "no girls allowed" (in this video it shows it at 10:08) which showed Steven there previously. Which would have made sense and answered our question, but adult Steven also acknowledges that he knew of the tree house so that fucks everything up.

I think the house was bending time and space around them. It essentially hypnotized them to think the red room was whatever each person needed at the time. Physically they all entered the same door but they “saw” what the house wanted to see. Luke was often neglected as the youngest, he spent a lot of time alone with Abigail and nobody believed his stories. It’s not surprising that he was alone in the tree house or only with nick Remember, the mom was able to enter Steve’s game room and other characters talk to the mom in the tea room. The house is changing their perceptions of space

I think the house, through Olivia’s ghost, exacerbated and manipulated Nellie’s own desire to die. Six year old dream Nellie told her mother that her heart would break and everything would hurt until she needed to die. We didn’t see the reality of the moment, but some subconscious part of Nellie had to have put a rope around her neck and climbed to the other side of the railing. Her reaction while dying was so difficult for me because, instead of feeling the relief and peace we like to imagine suicide victims are finally feeling, she was just scared, and realized too late that she wanted to be alive. Honestly it was the most terrifying and heartbreaking depiction of suicide I’ve ever seen. I struggled a lot with PPD and suicide ideation after giving birth and I cried about that scene for almost an hour.

I think the red cake actually symbolises the opposite; since, we know that Mike Flanagan intentionally altered the ending so that the 4 children survived. Thus, rather than the 'red-room' continuing to consume them, the children are (visually/symbolically) consuming 'it'. That is, they are digesting what happened to them and moving forward. I'd say this is more likely due to textual evidence (e.g., the removal of the rectangular window) and the Director's notes.

AHS tried to do a story about a house full of spirits, and this show did it a thousand times better. I put this show on one day not expecting much. By two episodes in I was like "Woah this is actually really good." And watched the whole thing in 2 days. It was brilliantly done because the timelines bouncing around had a potential to be very messy and confusing but it really added to the whole thing, rather than taking away from it. It's a shame that Liv was about to get help from the old woman. She was trying to help Liv by telling her "that one lies." The military created a compound to hold out in and protect the civilians while they waited for the infected to die out (as humans, they still need food and nutrients to function). After 28 weeks, they start to send out excavation crews to search for survivors. They find the kid's mom in a weird state. She's broken, barely functioning, and disoriented but still alive. They take her back to the compound to run tests on her. Her husband visits and kisses her. Unfortunately, she was a healthy carrier (a trait passed on to her son) and infects her husband. He rapidly changes and savagely kills her [You gotta see this death, bro]. He then plunges the facility into chaos and hundreds of people are infected or killed in like, an hour. The kids escape underground to make it to a stadium for evacuation while the city is fire-bombed [another cool scene]. The father bites the son and infects him before the daughter shoots him. The son becomes a healthy carrier and is picked up by the evacuation helicopter. Did this help?

@@demonwolf570 I'm not trying to troll at all, but that's basic information if you watch the movie. He meant an "Ending Explained" because the kids make it to London, but after that it just shows cut scenes of zombies over ran by London (as a guess from major landmarks being surrounded by smoke). At the very end of the blackout before credits, it audiates a message (from a radio I'm guessing) about things I cant remember on the spot, but wasnt really helpful. It was a brief foreshadow that the virus wasnt only limited to their country, but in others aswell. But with London being the "safe haven" originally, it then makes us question "what then for our young ones. I'm not too sure there are any information further at all, since the movie didnt exceed as well as the 28 Days Later (dont quote me on that quote). But yea...

I want to watch this series so much but I actually can't watch horror movies/shows... I can't deal with jumpscares, especially when I know they're coming. Probably related to my anxiety. Anyways, I appreciate your Ending Explained series as it allows me to understand the story without giving myself a heart attack trying to watch for myself. I'd be super interested in the hidden ghosts video, as it may actually help me watch the series, but even if it doesn't it'd be cool to see as I've heard lots about the dozens of hidden ghosts.

1) First and foremost: why does everyone in movies just throw their zippo lighters when they instigate a fire? They're like $40 and have a lifetime warranty. Just bend your knees, put the zippo flame to the edge of the gasoline perimeter and after it catches fire close the zippo and put it in your pocket. Also, less evidence for the police. 2) Second: "The Haunting" is one of the few shows I've really binged. I watched all episodes in a row. It was fantastic! Both scary and suspenseful, but also explored the depths of trauma and how it can affect different family members. No two siblings process any kind of trauma (like, divorce, death of a loved one and so on) in the same way. It was masterfully done, especially the interaction between the siblings. 3) Third: was Nell really suffering from sleep paralysis? This is what I had a problem with when it came to Nell and Luke. They're twins so they have a preternatural bond to each other. Then I would argue Nell felt every time Luke took drugs as well as when he went through withdrawal pains. Yet I don't remember anyone raising this issue, like "Hey, Luke, you feel connected to your twin sister, right? So you don't think she feels the effects of the drugs when you take them and then feels like shit when you go through withdrawal? What if she is driving at the moment and your drug use or withdrawal symptoms make her crash the car and kill her as well as others?" So I was uncertain if Nell had "her own thing" or her experiences where due to Luke's drug use or lack thereof.
@WulfysGamingTidbits
@WulfysGamingTidbits 5 жыл бұрын
Because none of them believed in the psychic connection between them due to being twins. Just like her doctor said, he believes in an empathetic bond, but not in psychic connections. The other siblings, save for Theo, refused to acknowledge any indication of them having psychic powers. Also, Luke's drug use could have been effecting his bond with his sister, hence the reason he didn't know she had actually died. Even when her spirit appeared to him, he thought it was more or less a dream or something. His body and mind had been so burnt out, his connection was shorted out. As far as the lighter, I don't think Luke cared for it lol he was only thinking of one thing and that was watching Hill House burn to the ground. I don't know how much trouble he would have been in for actually burning it, since his dad owned it. I don't know if he would have been arrested for arson or what.
@ZombieDragQueen
@ZombieDragQueen 5 жыл бұрын
@@WulfysGamingTidbits - But that's the doctor saying he doesn't believe in psychic connections, not Nell. And even if the others refused to acknowledge these powers, Theo still does, because it's hereditary. And since Nell and Luke are twins and twins have already an empathetic bond, shouldn't the connection between them be even more powerful? I mean them being also aware that it's more powerful than normal. Well, withdrawal can be a cause for substance-induced psychotic disorder, so Luke was probably right thinking it was just that when Nell appeared to him. As for the zippo, it wasn't necessarily aimed at Luke, more like a general remark how in movies, both heroes and villains just throw them like they were matches. But if you don't want to leave any traces, don't throw your zippo. It's like after a fire the first people the police should contact are employees of stores that sell zippos, like "Hey, anyone suspicious who recently bought a zippo?"
@ZombieDragQueen

@Ryan Stewart - So then Luke's drug use would keep her from being haunted and experiencing sleep paralysis? Or was his withdrawal that caused it?
@WulfysGamingTidbits
@WulfysGamingTidbits 5 жыл бұрын
She didn’t start seeing the bent neck lady again until after her husband died and Luke was still on drugs when her husband was around so I don’t think the drug use stopped her visions. It was more like when her husband was there, her dying was an uncertain thing, but after he died, the timeline shifted back. I also think the closer in proximity she and Luke are, the stronger their connection is.

Foundflix. Dont know if you will read this but what do you think about alternate ending? The room where they celebrate lukes 2years being sober, just being one of houses illusions. All rooms had a window in middle ( red rooms illusions ). Director said he wanted to put in a twist a window in that room. I think i explained it bad but you can check out information in internet. This series was good but i dont think it was like a horror but more as disturbing and sad drama with jump scares. But even then 10/10 For me.

I love the storytelling aspect they took for the show; it's told through the eyes of one sibling in one episode and sprinkles flashbacks through one episode but then in another episode, it tells you what actually happens. For instance, I liked the episodes where it explores Theodora's powers and how that effected her growing up and Luke's episode (Luke honestly was one of my favorite characters, next to Nell). And finally, *FUCK YOU* Poppy Hill!
