What is the point of aikido. It is not an effective way to protect yourself. So why learn it? I am not being negative, I really don't get it.

The point is to have defensive moves initiated to your opponent. How? Spiritual enlightenment shits if you're interested. It will not work with other martial arts practically, only theoretically. So it works best for street fights or street crimes.

JeremyEM1 why do you say hurt people. I am talking about defending yourself. Using the hurt people thing is just to make me sound like a Neanderthal. I don't want to hurt people. I just want to defend myself against those who want to hurt me. I also Insist on honesty. It is not honest to get students based on a promise of self defense skills. Again I ask, why present aikido as a martial art when it is useless as such. Why tell students they are being taught to defend themselves when they are not. If aikido is a spritual quest then fine present it as such. Don't say it's a self defense system that can defend against knife attacks etc if it is only a spiritual pursuit. Watching the training is like watching a cult praying and using a physical skill to determine the top guy. The problem is that that skill is useful only against others practicing the cult. Anyone who really needs to be defended against like an aggressive outsider will easily prevail. Very bizarre.
