I remember fallowing this tragic story. I actually got to meet Charles Merritt. He was hiding among us for several years. He wanted to try to hustle at pool for money. My best friend even lived with him for a couple years. He was a typical con man. Wanting people to invest in his business ideas. I never felt for them unfortunately some people around us did. I remember running into him at one of the final jobs he was working at before he abruptly disappeared. He was a nervous reck. I was shocked to hear about the bodies being found in my desert. It’s about a two and half hour drive from San Diego area. I remember friends calling me if I’ve seen the news. We were all shocked when we seen Charles hand cuffed for the murders of the McStays. The bodies were not far from his moms house. I’ve never written about this before. I just thought of sharing it with everyone.

Miss A we were very fortunate considering how many years we were around him. After everything was out. A lot of things started making scenes. I just hope the family found a little peace after his conviction.

Dumb Freddy I live less than 3 hours away from the McStays. I was following this from the beginning. Lot’s of things started making scenes after his capture. Chase was around us for several years. He really got involved in our pool playing community. So I got to be around him quite a bit. Plus my best friend lived with him for a couple years. He was all about trying to make money any way he could. Remember how all this started. The only reason I decided to share this. Is because of people thinking he might be innocent.

Honestly, people who kill others, especially children, for greed, are the lowest kind of scum, IMO. At least serial killers have some kind on mental internal drive. Something off in their head, usually, that drives them to kill. But killing for greed... There is just no way around it. That is choosing to be evil. And I don't like using that word, as I think "evil" is just an excuse or cop out for a lot of people who can't understand or accept some people's actions. I don't really believe in evil, usually. But choosing to kill an entire family for financial gain or material wealth, that is as evil as evil get, IMHO.

@@kari7403 funny to think a serial killer is worse, but you're right. Calling a serial killer evil is almost the same thing as calling a tiger evil for killing zebras. But senseless cold-blooded murder in the name of greed, or in cases like "you're getting old, and I like this younger, prettier woman, so I'm going to kill you now"... disgusting. I've heard this one. The family crossing the border was a horribly timed coincidence that created quite the red herring. I'm very glad they caught the backstabbing sob in the end. Yeah, I did too. I was really hoping they would find the family in Mexico, safe and sound. But I kinda figured it wouldn't be the case. I just hope those poor babies didn't suffer of have to see their parents killed or be scared for long. I truly hope the killer at least gave the babies a quick and sudden end, without them seeing it coming. Makes me sick to my stomach just thinking about it now. There is no amount of money anyone could give me, to make me even consider killing a child. In fact, there is nothing anyone could offer, say, or do, that would make me even hesitate to even consider doing such a thing to such an innocent, helpless and trusting child. Or any person, really. I wish I could hug and hold those babies just once before the end. Maybe reassure them so they wouldn't be so scared. Wish I could have saved them, really. 😢😢😢😢 Dammit. Now I'm crying. I hope he is executed soon. Monster.

This case ALWAYS pisses me off and breaks my heart. Its one of those cases that vets stuck in my head and frustrates me SO bad. It was so pointless and didn't need to happen. I mean, I know that almost all murders don't need to happen. But this one just really gets to me for some reason. That killer REALLY makes me sick.

Can you even imagine this? That monster took that family, at gunpoint, to a remote area, then beat the father, mother and children to death with a sledge hammer. I really do not believe greed alone was the driving force beyond that crime.

And though im on the totally opposite side of the vaccine fence, I have to hand it to you, that's a really good idea to use that as your picture, to spread awareness to the cause you believe in. Smart move. And effective. It certainly pulls at my heart, seeing the baby crying in the pic. Even if the baby is cute as anything. A screaming baby, even if only in a pic, will ALWAYS activate my Mama instincts. So, coming from a pro-vaccinator, you got my attention with it, and hooked me emotionally, AND intrigued me enough with the info you provided for the pictures background, that im now gonna look into the anti vaccine side a bit more. Alright Crimey! Love the Channel! This story is so disturbing because you can see how Happy the Family were. Good day, Janet! New measures here in the States, too. Just keep telling myself, "we all have to do our part..." It's the bars being closed and no new movie releases that are getting to me. @@TheCrimeReel Not sure, but recent rulings in Scotland - which I will abide to - are that I am not allowed to go in another persons car unless it is a hired cab, cannot have any one in my home unless it is for informal childcare. Sounding awfy moaning here but the only time I get out is once a week WAS with my daughter for a look at the estuary, an antique shop or have a snack. Whinge over. ANYWAY. Bars are open in Scotland up to 20.00 hrs. It's not relevant to us as no music allowed even sound on TV and if we go out it's just for a coupla beers during the afternoon. Which means I sit knitting watching fishing videos with a load of Auld Blokes. 🤔🤣🤣 I miss my people being allowed to come in for a rant in my kitchen over a brew. @@janetcw9808 Most of these drastic measures are unnecessary as well. Sweden had no lockdowns, no mask wearing, no school or business closures. There was a slight peak of cases when they left their society and people alone, but it quickly flattened. Now??? Hardly any new cases. Anout 2 a week in a coubtry of I think 7 million people. So many lies and disinfo. People need to educate themselves moe about the facts and whose agenda all this nonsense is serving.

Leela, I wish I could introduce to you to 1 of my best ever canine friends, Lilly, who had the exact same sock obsession - she was OCD about stealing the socks & EXCEEDINGLY clever about hiding them. A diva of a German Shepherd who had to be hand fed tidbits to get her started eating her breakfast food bowl, loved nothing more (other than sock stealing) to roll around in the yard soaking up sun whilst on her back, & stole *my* morning meals of spiced yogurt if I turned my back for 30 seconds. I always called her a cat/dog & she loved cats - aside from fact she snored like a drunken sailor she was more cat than dog. She and Leela would have been inseparable in their petty crimes. Luna & Shadow, I have to catch an Uber before surge pricing kicks in, but I also appreciate you :-)

This case is incredibly sad. The only thing that makes it any better would if that guy NEVER gets out. Any rescue from his guilt, even death, is too good for him! - - IMHO. Morning! I remember this. At the time I thought the photo of the family walking was them. Mysterious as to why they left. I didn’t know till listening now, all were murdered. I never kept up. I've only read up on the case a little bit, after they found the killer, and have seen one ir two other brief videos on it. But nothing too in depth. Have you seen or read other material that has more information from his point of view, or that would hint more towards his motivation? If so, can you remember what it is? I'd enjoy finding out more on motive why or more on the killer in general.

It was terrible and disgusting & we as tax payers are still paying for this pos to breathe while this poor family were put in shallow graves in the dessert needlessly. I am not an American but I remember this when it happened as it was broadcast in our local news. But like most things after a while there was no followup story. This heartbreaking story hits close to home ~ literally. I lived in Victorville when the family was found, and while it is believed that the surrounding desert is riddled with such "shallow graves", it was still extremely troubling to locals to know we could have been out for a walk any day and been the ones to find them... Oh, and nice pronunciation of "San Bernardino", you sound like a local.
