My all-time favorite character in Pokemon--treats his Pokemon so well, has a kind heart, and prioritizes his happiness and authenticity over wealth (i.e. his prized bottle cap collection). Doesn't surprise me that he fled that family and Jessibelle, choosing freedom even if it came with little money with Team Rocket instead of living "the good life" of money. No amount of money is worth that kind of mistreatment, abuse, neglect, and manipulation.

I have to agree. James has a heart of gold. I feel like he ended up on the path of "villainy" due to his family circumstances and wanting freedom, feeling like that was the best path for him to get it and be able to be who he wanted to be rather than getting forced into things like a marriage he absolutely did not want.

There was an XY episode that had James (under the guise of a man named Jeep) relate to Serena's Braixen over a broken stick because it was precious to the Braixen. The episode gave him more backstory about a bottle cap collection he used to have that his parents threw out because they deemed it "improper" for him to have such an interest. I remember watching the dp episode as a kid, and I think it was the first time I was introduced to the concept of backstory. So it has always been a memorable episode to me because of that. And that fact that James asks to be thunderbolted.

There is a moment at the end where James has to say goodbye to his Chimecho, and he breaks down in front of his Nanny and Pop pop (the only real parental figures in his life). He then reveals to them that he’s not actually successful and rich, but he’s actually in Team Rocket. Even then, they love him just the same, because they see he’s happy with the friends he has at his side.

I Have a lot of things to say, James Nanny and Pop Pop are more of his real parents if you ask me because they love him even after they learn he was in team rocket also nothing related to James to A degree, but there’s this infamous Pokémon infinity train crossover fanfiction made by a woman started out of spite out of Chloe, not getting enough screen time and essentially has her childhood friend Goh Told to his face to give up on his dreams of finding Mew and told Center his whole life around Chloe and somehow he forgives her for ruining his life to the point that he was put in wing of a hospital where people are put under a special watch He was endlessly tormented for seeking a career in Pokémon instead of her

James is very different from the other Team Rocket and other criminal organisation in the series as it turns out to be kind person and really cares for his Pokémon. But I still don't understand why someone with a good heart like James would he decided to join Team Rocket in the first place since they are criminal organisation as their goal is to steal trainers Pokemon (especially Ash's Pikachu) and takeover the world.

I can't remember what I thought about the human characters when I watched the Pokemon anime in my childhood, but after watching as much of it as I have so-far as an adult, James became my #1 favorite character in that whole show because of both the cute and handsome character design and his personality.

It's crazy that James' mother and arranged "fiance" resemble Jessie from Team Rocket. Did the writers do this on purpose, or was this a coincidence? James does better and weirdly glad he is in Team Rocket even though they be stalking my boys Ash & Pikachu. They don't go for any other Pikachu. in the Sun & Moon series, Jessie had to stop her Mimikyu from attacking a Boruto-like Pikachu and let it know only Ash's Pikachu is our enemy, not every Pikachu in the world.

he just needs to man up and stand up to her. i like feisty chicks like that, she might be testing her, if he cant deal will his woman, how will he run the gigantic family estate that he will inherit one day. this was a good surface level analysis and fun to watch video, but i believe the writers are trying to tell a deeper/hidden story, one more subtle and for an older demographic that might be watching. a story about maturation and taking responsibility, going from boy to man. yea he goes through a harsh childhood and the toxic ex is played for gags, but james never confronts his troubles, he doesn't rise and doesn't stand up to his parents/finance, instead turns his back on everything and runs away and joins a shady organization/gang. it does reflect a lot of youth at the time in japan and america leaving their responsibility as the son to join crime groups and other gangs. damn its 2 am and im rambling.

haha, we love our 2am ramblings. to add, i agree that i think the writers hint at things more deeply. there are things i didn’t discuss in this video; such as the several occasions where james ends up at this familiar crossroads where he has to make a decision - stay with team rocket or return to his family. he ALWAYS chooses team rocket. he also shows desires to become wealthy on his own merit (despite many of them being scummy get-rich-quick schemes), despite the fact that he has access to generational wealth. i think you provided an interesting insight into james’ character that i never thought about, and i’m wondering what you think of my insight here! :)

if you take all the jokey moments out of the kanto episode, it really just tells the story of james consistently fighting for his freedom … while his parents do everything in their power to control him. it’s a surprisingly powerful story, especially for a one told in a kids show in the 90s.

About that, I've actually made up a story titled as "Rocket Romance" of first James proposing to Jessie, then they quit being Team Rocket members, have the marriage and decide to next be the owners of a brand-new fashion center because Jessie had suggested that. Having that be their new job with them having the logo of it be: "J & J'S Fashion Center." Ash and his friends find it and spot James inside then he quickly brings them to the office room where Jessie and Meowth are at so that their cover wouldn't be blown to the customers and they explain what they did and that because of all of that, them trying to steal his Pikachu would be a thing of the past. Later on the married duo send a message to their rivals Butch and Cassidy and those 2 people decide that they should do what Jessie and James did. (quit Team Rocket, get married then get a new job.) Some other things happen too and in that story after quitting Team Rocket Jessie and James only use the last names that someone made up for them online. (I read that the full names are James Morgan and Jessie Murrow) So Mr. Morgan and Mrs. Murrow is what they call each other in front of other people after getting married in that story. Though I have to admit, the story is still unfinished.
