A beautiful song that helped me get through a tough break up. 🙏🏼

Wow, I'm getting old. 10 years ago I was playing this (and rocking out to it!) in our college radio studio.

I'm surprised this channel doesn't have a billion followers. Beautiful music and talented artists.

Saw live in San Diego as a college freshman, 13 years later it just popped into my head. I think that’s how you know it’s good music

I had to listen to this band after learning that they toured with Menomena, and I'm glad that I did. I think I'll buy their album.

I thought I understood this song when I was 15 and first heard it, but at 25 I definitely understand it now.

Living Abstraction Brandon told me it was about his mom...he's been happily involved with the same woman (his wife) since they were just out of their teens

How do you interpret this? Literal or satirical/sarcastically? Ironically/unironically? You can apply it both ways, and I have, at different stages in my life.

I think I’ve always taken it as when you’re finally getting over someone and you start to notice that you haven’t woken up thinking about them, wondering who there with etc. and it’s a lil sad because you know it’s actually when that pain is gone. So literally. Could go either way tho.

Works both ways, as you've noticed. Each way has its own different flavor of sadness. The sarcastic interpretation is obviously painful: The singer lists everything he wishes he could stop doing, helpless in his torment. But the literal read carries a much more subtle edge of grief: A life still defined by loss, lived alone, cleansed but vacant, with the smooth simplicity of scar tissue.

Left my ex 10 yrs ago. I still play this song. I don't pine for that love in a wanting way but in the way you remember a once in a lifetime connection that no longer remains. No matter how many years, life milestones I pass, permanent changes that occur, i will always love him in a way I will never love or be loved. We saw you live in 2013. It was the last thing we did together as a couple.

Is there a better indie rock break up song than this? I doubt it.
