This is how it feels to be in love
This is life from above
There’s no books anymore
I’m bound to that summer
Big box office hit
Making love to a counterfeit
Why did so many
Get a rise out of me
I love the movies
Some people feel what some people don’t
Some people-watch until they explode
The meaning of life doesn’t seem to shine like that screen
Put me in a movie and everyone will know me
You’ll be the star you know you are
The movies I watched when I was a kid
The hopes and the dreams
Don’t give credit to the real things
I love the movies
I know the meaning
I know the story
I know the glory
I love movies
I wanna be in my own movie
I wanna be
I wanna be the star of mine
Of my own, my own
My own
I wanna be, the star
I wanna be
I wanna be the star of mine
Of my own, my own
My own

I usually don’t watch many movies, and many friends ask me why. When I watch a movie, it’s like it touches my soul and everything in it. When I was younger I always thought that it was unfair, because life in a movie is often plain, simple, linear, while my (and everyone’s) life is complicated and difficult. After watching a movie I usually feel empty and drained because I am overly sensitive. Even though this isn’t the topic of this song, it reminded me of this “problem” I had and still have: movies are something beautiful, but they can really hurt me. In the end “the meaning of life doesn’t seem to shine like that screen”, and it’s something hard to accept.

We were on our way home (Denmark) from a vacation to France. We had listened to lots of fun and great music, each of us (my sister, father, mother and I) choosing a song one after the other. It was getting dark, windy, cold, rainy. Sleepy, too. My father then put on this song as I stared out at the lights through a wet window. All four of us were almost completely quiet throughout the entirety of the song. It was as if my father just knew exactly what would we all wanted, needed, to hear at that particular moment. I've rarely had such an emotional reaction to a song that wasn't during a concert, but I remember feeling bliss, comfort and melancholy at the same time. I don't think I'll forget that memory. Thank you, father and Weyes Blood.

The declaration “I want to be the star of my own” is some beautiful symbolism especially given the otherwise uncertain nature of the album. Within all that uncertainty and change - looking for something to believe or hold onto - there is in every one of us the capacity to turn it into something beautiful. To see life for its beauty and actualize our potential to become something more. To become the lead role in our own lives and be a positive force in this chaotic world. She even says in andromeda, “we all want something new but can seem to follow through”. Movies is a beautiful moment of clarity in the album. Its like one of those moments where everything seems to click and you feel like you could do anything. But the irony is that real life isnt a movie. It doesnt always pan out with a story book ending. It almost never does. But “i want to be the star of my own” is self aware in its own irony. She is saying that even though life will never be a movie, she still wants to make the most of the mess. And thats pretty beautiful if you ask me. What more can anyone truly ask for? Thats what being a star really means

My theory on the music video is that we often sit and observe and take in the reality that we were given. The movie represents our life. we just sit back and watch our life pass by and setting our limit to what we think we can achieve. But soon everyone realizes that they can achieve the impossible they can be in their own movie, THEY create their own reality! Their own movie. So everyone getting up and jumping into the screen/water is them becoming conscious. Water is consciousness. they can finally be free in the water. they are not the viewers anymore they are the creators of their own movies.

I'm not the kind of man who cries with Music. Even with a very sad lyrics or sad melodies, the songs only turn myself a little melancholic. Well, one day some months after discover the album, while i was hearing this song i was really into the song, my mind was so deep in the melodies and the Natalie's voice. Before the Middle of the song i started to Cry. Since that day this song became my favourite without a doubt.

well that fucking made me cry. idk but this hit me harder than something to believe even though that's my favorite track; maybe because i interpreted the mv as something that if given the chance, most of us would probably be willing to abandon reality and the freedom to be in control of our lives and give in to this make-believe, illusion-infused reality because it seems so much better than to constantly navigate life and make decisions and figure shit out. this is just my take tho, i know it's probably not that deep LOL just in that shit-what-am-i-doing-with-my-life phase

It is inspiring and uplifting, it embodies in transcendent harmonies "all the hopes and the dreams" we secretly pray for every time we face the silver screen - the song that brings me out in floods of tears however is Picture Me Better - all the poignant ache of loss and grief caught in a beautiful ballad for a mourned friend remembered

Yet another great track from one of my fave albums of 2019. I feel sorry for anyone who's missing out on this, thanks to our clueless, unimaginative radio stations here in the U.K.

This is how it feels to be in love This is life from above There's no books anymore I'm bound to that summer Big box office hit Making love to a counterfeit Why did so many Get a rise out of me? I love the movies Some people feel what some people don't Some people watch until they explode The meaning of life doesn't seem to shine like that screen Put me in a movie and everyone will know me You'll be the star you know you are The movies I watched when I was a kid The hopes and the dreams Don't give credit to the real things I love the movies I know the meaning I know the story I know the glory I love movies I wanna be in my own movie I wanna be I wanna be the star of mine Of my own, my own My own I wanna be the star I wanna be I wanna be the star of mine Of my own, my own My own

Some of the imagery in this video is very clever. The Sound of Music, the coquettishness of Marilyn Monroe, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, The Shape of Water (?), probably a lot more that hasn't dawned on me yet. Smart lady.

I love movies!! I’m a movie buff and I love the art form. So much goes behind the scenes. So many people it takes to make a movie it’s always been interesting to me. The heart throbs and the pretty actresses the heartbreaking stories. I love it all. Drama genre is my fave..
