Great video! If putting this in the loop of an amp, can you route the FX so that modulations are AFTER the amp and distortions are BEFORE? How does that work? Thank you!
@ryansnydercg11 ай бұрын
So if you put this in the FX loop. It will come after the amp. But you can use the 4 cable method and put the distortion before the amp and then the modulations and delays within the FX loop

HX Stomp has been the king of the modelers for a while, but I think that Line 6 will have to come out with something that competes with the Tonex pedal because it does sound better than the helix and is easier to use for just getting great amp sounds especially for those of us who already have pedals we love and don't need the HX stomp built in effects..

Heyy! Thanks for the HX Stomp XL review Colt, very informative! I just wanted to ask you about the modified top 3 footswitches. It seems like you have some kind of aftermarket oversize stomp buttons on board. What's the deal here? Do they make it easier to use? Should I get some? Thanks a lot, dude!
@ryansnydercg Жыл бұрын
Hey man! Glad it helped. And yes so those are called Barefoot Buttons V1 Tallboy Footswitch Caps. Make sure you get the V1s as the V2s do not fit the HX Stomp. And I like them a lot. It makes it easier to press the top row - especially live - without worrying about pressing the bottom row. They are a little on the pricier side, and I didn’t like that they didn’t show the colors of the switches so I ended up swapping to these clear ones - Jiayouy Guitar Effect Pedal... www.amazon.com/dp/B0B3D6FNP3?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share So far I am liking them but have only had them on for a week and haven’t played live with them yet… might make a video about that in the future.

Regarding the statement that it can replace a pedalboard 100%: How do you control things like pedal volume swells, wah-wah, and whammy pitch modulation without an expression pedal? I can't find any information about that online. Any insight you have would be much appreciated!

@@ryansnydercg I think you misunderstood my question. Of course I know that you can hook up expression pedals to it, but that's not the point. He said it could replace your pedalboard 100% so I'm wondering how that functionality works without having to add expression pedals.
@chrisgoodchild22042 ай бұрын
@@MrGul it doesn’t, you need external expression control. There will be plenty of people who can replace a pedalboard with a stomp, but also some who really can’t. It’s a fantastic device but it doesn’t do everything in all flavours and configurations.

@@MrGul he doesn’t, if you read the user manual it shows you everything you need to know. It can replace your pedalboard 100% IF you don’t need expression. But remember, it doesn’t do every sound imaginable so you really need to evaluate it yourself.

I'm just going to be honest- and I know this probably won't go over great in Helix land but- the Headrush MX5 sounds at least as good, maybe better, costs less, and has basically the same features. Comes out of box with 46 amps, 15 cabinets, 10 mic emulations, 300 impulse responses, and 63 effects. That said- the Headrush IRs aren't that great- upgrading to 3rd party, York IRs, which are really affordable and easy to install, makes it sound 10X better. But I can say the same thing for the Helix IRs- Imo they don't sound anywhere near as good as York IRs. As a recording interface I'd say the Helix might just barely edge the MX5 out- but barely. The MX5 is 24bit/96kHz- and the Helix is 32bit/96kHz. But the looper on the MX5 is 32 bit- and beats about any other looper I've tried yet. It doesn't have preloaded beats, but imo those always sound cheap and generic- I wouldn't use them if I had them. I like a metronome or click to stay in time with while practicing, but that's all I really need- and it has that. Tbh I'd say they're about the same- but the MX5 costs far less- which is why I like it more.

Honestly, these things are all about software support. I don't think any company has gone as far as Line6 with regards to their software support, so whenever their Helix 2 drops, I will be there with credit card on hand.
@stoneysdead6897 ай бұрын
@@LumaTo LOL_ Haus, if you need support to use the Headrush MX5- you probably have trouble tying your shoes, it's that bone head simple. There is no software required- you use it the exact same way you use a zip drive.
@stoneysdead6897 ай бұрын
@@LumaTo Whoops- I read my reply to you, and it comes off like I'm being rude or mean- I didn't mean to be, I was trying to be funny. My point was just the Headrush is so simple, there is no software. You plug it into the USB port, and it shows up as a drive, you just put your IRs in the "IR" folder, your rigs in the "rig" folder- etc. Then you hit "Synch" and that's it- it's ready to use. You can also make a backup of the drive when you first connected it- and if anything ever goes wrong- you can blank it out and put all that back on- it's back to factory default.
