@@drewc1863 Actually Odysseus enraged Poseidon after blinding his son Polyphemus, but indirectly won the favor of Athena, daughter of Zeus, which had a dispute with Poseidon over the naming of the Greek capital.

Considering how expansive and story rich the Iliad and the Odyssey has, I'm surprised Hollywood hasn't given it the Game of Thrones treatment. It is the only way the story can truly be told in the visual medium.

I'm surprised he wasn't thrown into Tartarus after his death for the things he did, though he might have and we will never know what his punishment is.
@sonofcronos7831
@sonofcronos7831 6 ай бұрын
Humans got to Hades, not Tartarus. And only a few humans we know of were punished in Hades (Sisyphus, Tantalus, Ixion, Ocnus, the Danaids, Pirithous). So is not that Ajax was not punished, is more the fact that we dont have much on what happens im Hades.
@artofwrick
@artofwrick 5 ай бұрын
That is why Greek tragedies are famous. Heros aren't punished for war crimes to a great extent, for victory is on their side. The writers don't allow readers to soothe the pain even slightly.

@@flippednormals297 Medusa. When Poseidon did to her what Ajax here did to this girl, Athena punished MEDUSA by turning her into...well, Medusa.
@flippednormals297
@flippednormals297 Жыл бұрын
@@Kerorofan1990 Athena didn't do that, the myth was written was by a roman writer, Minvera is the roman goddess, after Athena's syncretism into Minerva in rome. They aren't the same goddess, like Mars and Ares aren't the same. then that myth was written by the roman writer ovid who had issues with the authority so he used to portray the gods in bad light, as a part of fiction, not what the romans or greek might be believing as traditions. Also in eariler greek literature medusa was always born as a gorgon, there was no punishment by Athena, and Medusa has a romantic affair with Poseidon, there was no violation. this myth where Athena punishes Ajax is the part of greek sources, and its also earlier than Ovid which was written in 8-7th century BC. Ovid's fiction is from 1st century AD or something like that. So Athena according what ancient greek believed hasn't punished victims.

Right?! I guess it would be harder for her to punish Poseidon (they’re both Olympians, but he’s a king over his personal domain…which encompasses a majority of the planet), but it was evil of her to take her anger out on Medusa.

Athena might not care about the women in her temple (ex: Medusa 😢) but desecrating her temple? Ajax isn’t a god, so Athena and the others were absolutely going to wreck his life for that. Add in Poseidon’s nonexistent tolerance for taunting and he was destined to become a cautionary tale.
@flippednormals297
@flippednormals297 Жыл бұрын
Athena didn't punish medusa, Minerva and Athena aren't the same like Mars and Ares aren't. Poseidon and Nepture aren't the same. And Medusa was never SA by Poseidon, they had a romantic affair, and she was always a gorgon. Greek writers and Ovid aren't the same one is myth writer, other is fictional writer. Also keeping in mind Ovid had problems with authority, so he used his fictional writings portraying the gods in bad light, to show his resentment against the authority.
