Drib come on man... I would've been pissed! you broke 2 frames (antiques to modern tech) and laughed about it. After getting ballzy with an underpowered hex. Tommy I feel for ya, good job keeping the composure. I hope Tommy has another pristine Hex or at least a blackout 250. For an analogy, that's like drifting a Ferrari F40 into a wall and then brushing it off like it isn't a big deal.

its so funny that in the drone world, just a few years ago is considered "back in the day" because of how relatively new drones are. And whats great is that in that small amount of time the tech has gone skyrocketing upwards in every way.. Efficiency, speed, FC tech, ESC tech, motor tech, radio tech, rx tech.. everything is getting SOOOOO awesome in such a short period of time... In 10 years imagine where we'll be.. kids in 10 years just getting into drones are gonna be watching some youtuber talk about how ":back in the day" in 2020 people were flying using 4 motors and 6s batteries. and they only did around 100mph.. hahaha
@air-headedaviator18056 жыл бұрын
Its just like with fly-by-wire. The development for such flight controllers litigated the need for more responsible aerodynamics, allowing the flight envelope to increase dramatically for unstable craft.

@@plainuser48596 Might have been tried before but brushless micros have taken a huge leap in literally the last 3-6 months alone. Way better parts (F4 flight controllers, 32 bit ESCs and tons of motor options) and way more parts to choose from these days than before too.
@charlessampson63896 жыл бұрын
I built a 3" hex a year ago. 1407 motors, F4 FC, micro cam, etc, all modern stuff... the performance characteristics are pretty awesome (and it sounds amazing). the hex is a lot more planted in the corners than any quad ive flown, it changes directions on a dime and tracks really stably, but its very sensitive to weight. with 1000mah 4S packs it rips, but even high quality packs start sagging pretty badly after about 1:00min of flight time. the extra weight of a bigger pack really degrades the performance in the air, so finding a good battery was really the limiting factor for me. I raced it a couple times during last years indoor season, but keeping it in the air for 2+ minutes was tough. there are also some weird behaviors that you get on a hex when you start encountering prop damage. Unlike a quad, the hex can stay airborne with a badly damaged (or even entirely missing) prop, but you can get yaw-spin-to-the-moon scenarios out of nowhere because the FC is trying to keep the quad level on different numbers of CW/CCW motors. This can happen after a simple branch/gate strike and its pretty sketchy.
@RcReviewsLt6 жыл бұрын
2" hex will weight to much, 3" will have power and joy. also just add Split v2 mini for hD =) some motor/props protectors, and you have stable micro quad =)

People flew the mini-hex because we were trying to replicate the power of a 400mm 8” propped quad. At the time people were only flying 1806 powered minis, they still didn’t have the punch of a 400mm quad slung with 2216/1200KV on 3300mah 4S. A hex, powered with 1806 was getting close to the power of a QAV400, ADS400Q or QX-9 which was what most pilots flew at the time. Go back and look at Juz70s videos. . . that’s a great history of multis all in one spot. I think he’s even got his old Hoverthings videos on there as well.

I've had a few "Oddballs" over the years (Couple Y6's, A few tricopters, Several Hex's, And a feckin' ridiculous 5" X8 that I built for a laugh) and have to say that my hex's were really good for relaxed freestyle flying. I'm more into freestyle than racing, So I tend to under spec the motors a little on non gimbal carrying hex's. It's just so they're not pulling crazy amps and I can run the same smaller/lighter packs I use for my quads. At the minute I've only got one 5" hex, But it usually gets strapped on my backpack when I'm out with a few 5" and 3" quads for a mess about. It's a nice relaxing frame to fly at the end of a day, But as you said, It can be quite a floaty multirotor without active braking. A 2 or 3" hex could be interesting.
