My headcanon is that Bowser intimidated the organization to let Jr play but he didn’t want to be against a cheater even if it was his own son so the lack of items was a compromise.

3:16 Luigi being one man down can actually happen in normal gameplay as well. The gimmick of one playing field is that characters can get zapped by lightning, which means you can't use them until either team scores a point. The most likely explanation for Luigi being a man down is that he just got unlucky.

A thing not a lot of people talk about is the road to the strikers cup descriptions. Like waluigi is hated and assumed to be cheating but if you succeed without losing waluigi gains fans for being stylish. If you do well with wario you get news about how he's supposedly the worst player and it's a surprise he's doing well Bowser jr, diddy kong and petey Piranha all have cup runback stories for their respective unlock cups

Honestly, even as a kid, I thought the lore of these arenas would be interesting. The Mushroom Kingdom one in Strikers feels straight out of Twilight Princess.

Strikers charged is such an underrated game. No other Mario game gives the character so much personality, unique animations, full on character themes, etc. The fact that all this lore was built behind it just heightens that fact, not to mention highlights how bad Battle League is in comparison

As great as this knowledge is my biggest question for this series has always been what caused these games to be all Mad Max Football Road? I wish the games showed a bit more on who/what organization hosted all of it, let alone made it as chaotic as it is

It’s just an intense sport called Strike that’s very popular and important in the Mushroom Kingdom. People get really riled up over it because there’s a lot of passion and a lack of regulation. The tournaments of the first two games were probably just ran by Mario and Peach, but they’re ran by the Galactic Strikers Federation (GSF) in Mario Strikers: Battle League.

I love the style of Strikers: Charged. It feels very counterculture-y, at least by Nintendo standards. Like the characters got to finally shed their family friendly facade and properly cut loose. Waluigi's crotch chop is the perfect example of this. This was clearly the intended direction, as Super Mario Spikers, a volleyball-wrestling hybrid game was cancelled for being "too violent".

Charged didn't have that much content, but much of it was so mercilessly difficult you weren't going to get through it all anyways. I wish it didn't have the motion control super strikes, but otherwise the gameplay was practically perfect!

We had 15 years between the games. Most of the devs might’ve forgotten what they did originally, or the team might’ve just had loads of newbies.

The 2 classic soccer games were fun and amazing and wacky and cool and colorful and the one on switch was.... Just dull and bland and square and sterile and lifeless and just one giant letdown all together. Easily the least inventive and worst in the series
