I like to deconstruct the Bible just as much as anybody, but an argument could be made that the same description can apply to any document made in any period of time more than 2000 years ago. Heck, one could say the same thing about books concerning Native American history, considering most of what we know about their ancient customs was from the reports of Europeans. A lot of historical analysis is speculation, and it's not limited to the history of Christianity :)

I think the movie can be powerful in its portrayal of real human detriments such as revenge, betrayal, &c. in such a small, concentrated, meaningless area: a high school. It can almost be perceived as shocking in the themes that are shown throughout the film, whether the filmmakers knew it or not.
