It’s also worth noting, how vague TFC’s line “Ryan told me everything” is. It could not only mean about how Thomas worked hard to prevent Sailor John from stealing the treasure, but also explaining how he tried to prevent an accident he caused with the dynamite.

If only people in the fandom aren't so annoyingly stubborn to figure that through their head or get a reality check because I'm so sick of people kicking on something that's obviously a dead horse at this point. "tHoMaS gEtTiNg pUnIsHeD tHrEe tImEs iN tHe SaMe mOvIe iZ nAt fAiR!!11!!1 aLl tHrEe oF tHoZe tHiNgZ aRe bEyAnD TaMiZ'es KaNTrOl!!1!" It's like these people are so blind and oblivious, it looks to me that they either assumed otherwise without watching the movie or even reconsidered their thoughts. I was wrong to believe the third incident wasn't entirely Thomas' fault because I should have remembered about that line where Thomas apologizes to Ryan about the dynamite incident. That's like saying Topham bricking Henry up in the tunnel is unjustified, even though the reason for it was because Henry was being selfish about his appearance, not because he did nothing to deserve getting walled up. I find it really ironic or even hypocritical (or a complete double standard) how people in the fandom refuse to believe in any of those dipshit journalists that make up those false claims on "The Sad Story of Henry" for clickbait sake, yet they act like them whenever The Fat Controller told Thomas off on all three incidents that Thomas not only did to himself because of his arrogance and lack of honesty, but because he put the first incident onto Gordon as well. This needs to stop for all I care. Railway Sparrow made his point clear already and no one else has ever heard of a reality check.

One thing I love that the fandom did was the Trainz site Sodor Workshops, which has a downloadable freeware model of a what-if Geoffrey, which is based on Thomas's description of Geoffrey. Honestly, if the fandom can do that, I can't believe all of those who complain or nitpick about Sir Topham and Thomas's attitude haven't just fixed their satisfactions by creating their own version of a prequel of SLOTLT

Me personally, I want a lost treasure prequel to be the episode Goodbye, Fat Controller, The 2nd last episode of season 19. See, in my version of the *entire* CGI series (Yes, I want to rewrite the whole CGI Thomas era), The episode Goodbye, Fat Controller would instead be Topham not planning to leave Sodor, but rather retire, which this time actually turns out to be true, with him making plans. And sorry to say, Thomas' attitude in this movie would be more suited to The Adventure Begins, where he is just as cheeky as in his debut. The real #1 Thomas movie. That way, Thomas' attitude won't have to be exaggerated like it was here, Making Topham come of as more cruel, Ala Dr. Eggman in tails' story (Sonic Adventure) And the movie itself can play out with its own 3 strikes, but after it's found out that STH refused to accept that Thomas saved everyone, things come to a boiling point because he not only let Gordon get away with teasing Thomas, but credited Rocky for discovering the pirate ship where there's no logical way a crane like him could have. For all these actions, Topham is given the boot before he can complete his retirement plans. And Gordon? In my Henry gets the Express rewrite, Gordon gets the Express taken away as punishment for his behaviour.

A relief to see someone actually acknowledge that the dynamite incident *was* ultimately Thomas’ fault. What I think makes Thomas’ character arc from S19 into LOTLT even better is how we got TAB right before S19, to give us the full bookend to bookend story arc. I love Thomas and Topham’s characterizations in this movie. Finally I can take Topham seriously for one thing. Thomas is maybe a little more childish than I’d like him to be but that also comes down to his voice, especially in the US. For the most part, the dialogue itself captures him really well. His flaws are on full display and I’m here for it. The one thing I will say though is I honestly don’t think Ryan was meant to be a “villain,” or even a legitimate antagonist. Overconfident and dismissive is literally exactly how Thomas acts in this movie, and he’s not a villain. He surely would have been less of a nice character, but I don’t think there’s anything to suggest he’d be any more antagonistic than like, Diesel in Misty Island Rescue or something kinda like that. Being overconfident in a way that causes problems, but not being malicious in any way. But even then, I’m glad they didn’t go with that. The fact that Thomas is unjustified in his dislike of Ryan works in the movies favor in my opinion and I’m glad they went with what they did for him.

I’m glad someone has put a deeper nose dive into this. The fact that so many people despise this film purely because of the Fat Controller’s treatment towards Thomas is honestly petty and I feel like they don’t know the personalities. *not saying they don’t, but that’s just how I feel* The thing about SLOTLT is that Thomas and the Fat Controller are actually in character here. For so long, the Fat Controller was portrayed as the stereotypical funny fat man. To see him act authoritarian again felt so real and true to his character. After all, it’s this personality that was introduced to us all the way back in 1945 when he shut up Henry in the tunnel then let him back out again, or when he moved Thomas to Edward’s station to learn how to deal with trucks. And the fact that most of the fandom rejected this portrayal in the film is kinda as saddening as how Percy went through a character arc of being brave in TOTB only to regress back into his cowardly nature in the next season. But back to the point, that’s an interesting idea. Who’s Geoffrey and SLOTLT definitely share similarities as you pointed out. In fact, back in 2015 when I first watched it after SLOTLT, I was a little confused to why Thomas decided to tell a lie after his growth in the film, until it was revealed that SLOTLT takes place after Season 19 and the Great Race. After that statement, it all made sense, especially as Season 20 backed this up with the Ryan & Daisy episodes and the Arlesdale Trilogy.

@@dannypalin9583 I know one popular one which was called 'Thomas Leaves Sodor', and being honest, it's not a good fanfic. But yeah, that's really telling how fans reacted to the dynamite incident, and being honest, it's rather childish. The Fat Controller may not have had the whole details, but it was entirely Thomas' fault for not warning Ryan about the bad coal. He had put Ryan and so many others at risk from that. However, credit where credit is due. Thomas was brave with stopping the dynamite and if the construction vehicles had told the Fat Controller exactly what happened, perhaps he could have been less harsh. But it still wouldn't change the fact that Thomas was indeed at fault for what happened, and people can blame everything on the Fat Controller, Gordon or anybody else for it, it all points back to Thomas.

I've stood by this take on the movie since 2015. "Never Overlook a Little Engine", while a cool song, doesn't belong in SLOTLT. I never saw any circumstance where Thomas was put down because of being little. Everything that goes wrong in the movie is on Thomas. He nearly caused a head-on collision with Toby while racing Bertie. He gloated that he could get away with anything because he was the number one engine. People were late for work or important matters, such as hospital visits, because Thomas not only slept in, but decided to fool around with Gordon's coaches. And then, when a pile-up was caused, and trains were delayed until it could be cleared and the tracks declared safe, what does Thomas do? Say it was Gordon's fault. Then Emily's. Then Toby's. Thomas proceeds to complain to the small engines that Gordon caused his banishment to the Construction Yard. It's never his fault. He loses valuable building supplies by rushing in and not listening to warnings. He deliberately neglects to tell Ryan about bad coal when Ryan's handling explosives. He may have saved everyone, but it doesn't change the fact that he put everyone in danger. And yet people insist that the Fat Controller is being aggressive and nasty. If you lost valuable supplies and money because an employee's acting the fool, you'd act just the same. This movie was about Thomas learning to get over himself and get his act together.

Very nice theory! Honestly, my guess for why Thomas and Fatty acted the way they do in SLOLT, is because the writers decided to be a bit more Railway Series accurate. In the RWS (and the seasons that adapted it), Thomas could be kind of a prick at times, and Fatty was usually much more stern and less lenient. Also, nothing against Ryan, he’s a good character and I definitely like him, but his role in SLOLT could’ve easily been filled by Stanley.

I was thinking Sir Topham Hatt didn't know about the bad coal, and in his car, only saw Thomas pushing the dynamite cars, and nothing else, and from his point of view, it looked like Thomas was fighting with Ryan in a dangerous way, and that may have been why he got so angry. And about the incident where he fell into the hole, I thought he really was telling what he thought was the truth to Sir Topham Hatt. The narrator said that Thomas did hear the men shouting, but he misinterpreted it as them being happy to see him and not as them trying to stop him, so technically, Thomas wasn't really LYING, he was telling Sir Topham Hatt his perspective of things, even if it wasn't how events really played out.

Ive always thought that SLOTLT was the boiling point for Sir Topham Hatt to finally think that he should one day put his foot down on Thomas' shenanigans when Thomas goes way too far with his stupidity, eagerness or arrogance. Something weird that I noticed when I was on the Thomas Wiki 2 days ago or yesterday that I would've wished to be in the aftermath of the treasure chase sequence was that it mentioned Sir Topham Hatt bringing up Ryan also telling him about the dynamite incident. Another thing that I wouldve also liked for Thomas to explain to Topham was that he was the first one to discover the pirate ship not Rocky since he saw it when he fell down the sinkhole. The only time I can recall an engine straight up lashing out at Sir Topham Hatt for an accident he or she didn't cause whether it was something that wasn't out of his or her control or caused by someone else for spite was in Thomas1Edward2Henry3's S3 episode "Sent packing".

@@railwaysparrowThere is a whole fanfic on Devinantart called "Thomas leaves Sodor", which is an extended version of SLOTLT after Sir Topham Hatt blames Thomas for the dynamite incident, Thomas feeling completely depressed, rejected and heartbroken decides to not be on Sodor anymore by living on the Mainland, get repainted green and then later on Sir Topham Hatt finds out what really happened in the dynamite incident and suffers the guilt for framing Thomas and he, Emily and Gordon look for him. This movie and Who's Geoffrey? do seem to connect with each other at how Thomas sucks at lying and how he can't be trusted at any simple jobs whether it be normal, stupid or impractical he gets at whatever episodes he's spotlighted on, and Sir Topham Hatt in here probably decided to take a stand against Thomas' stupidity after all the years of crashes and property damage he caused in every season, episode and movie.

Personally, while Who's Geoffrey does acts as a nice prequel to SLOTLT, in my opinion I feel like it doesn't really add a lot to the overall plot (Plus, I feel like they should have actually had Geoffrey be real at the end). Not to mention, it doesn't excuse his behaviour towards Thomas. I mean alright, the first two times okay, but the third time? Nah, not on. Couldn't the Fatt Hatt just let Thomas get a bloody word in?! It really hurts just seeing him shouting at poor Thomas, especially the scene after the dynamite incident. What hurts even more is that Thomas doesn't shout back. I mean Thomas has stood up for himself to other characters before (Such as Diesel 10 in Thomas and the Magic Railroad, Spencer in Hero of the Rails and, of course, Hector in Hector the Horrid), so why he doesn't stand up to his own controller? In my opinion, what should have happened is that Thomas should have snapped back at the Fat Controller and run away from the Island of Sodor. The Fat Controller would then feel guilty for his actions and go to find his number one engine and apologise. After that, he then punishes Gordon for being lazy and rude towards Thomas by taking away his express and having him work at the Smelters.

The fact that people say this movie is the worst singularly because of TFC just baffles me and makes me think they must be 8 year olds. They say that he was unjustified when the accidents, which were all caused by Thomas being a selfish little child. Even saying Thomas is out of character in the movie still boils my blood and makes me think that they hate these two because they grew up with either the HiT era or the Miller era and didn't see the Golden era or the RWS. They are perfectly in character; Thomas is the cheeky little prick who occasionally gets in trouble, and TFC is once again a respectable authority figure. @Railway Sparrow, The fat controller was wrong in the dynamite incident. Yes, Thomas should NOT have tricked Ryan into taking on bad coal, but what The Fat Controller does to Thomas is too far. He outright accuses Thomas of trying to kill Ryan! I’m sorry, but no. That’s not right. Thomas isn’t the nicest engine, but he’s not cruel! He would never, ever intentionally try to murder an innocent engine, even if he didn’t like said engine! Also, isn’t not learning the full story too far, even a little?! True, it wouldn’t have changed much since Thomas tricked Ryan into taking on bad coal, but still. So basically, The Fat Controller makes the same mistake he does after the cavern incident. Like I said, giving your kids the message that they don’t matter is just not right at all! I completely understand why The Fat Controller is doing this to Thomas, but I can’t condone it!
@kylemcnellis5893
@kylemcnellis5893 4 ай бұрын
Also, about the cavern incident. I agree Thomas wasn’t being very smart here. He shouldn’t have jumped in where he didn’t belong. He should have asked permission to take the supplies first, as well as where the supplies were going. However, once again, the way The Fat Controller handles it is not good. I don’t think Thomas is necessarily lying on that time. Rather, I think he’s telling The Fat Controller what he thinks happened. Maybe he didn’t hear the workmen’s warning (Granted, Thomas should have looked back to listen, but still). He’s not correct obviously, but it’s what he thinks happened. Also, I feel like dismissing Thomas the way he does is not the way to teach kids a lesson. I completely understand that The Fat Controller is trying to make Thomas learn, but that’s just not the way to do it. If you’re a parent, and you dismiss your kid the way The Fat Controller dismisses Thomas in that scene is going to give kids the message that their parents just don’t care about them, and let’s be real. Does a parent want their child to hate him/her? No! Absolutely not!

And the signalman should’ve Emily had the red light on the signal and waited for her turn to cross the tracks! Thomas found the ship in the cavern, but Sir Topham Hatt doesn’t believe him! Later on, Rocky lifted the ship out of the cavern and he got praised as a Really Useful Crane! Next, Thomas was trying to get rid of the dynamite because it was about to blow up almost hurting Ryan the new tank engine! Thomas got praised for what he did, but the Sir Topham Hatt was furious at Thomas! Like, C’mon Sir Topham Hatt give Thomas the medal, give him his branch line back, or in other case call him a hero because he saved Ryan’s life from that dynamite! Right, there is an absolute plethora of holes with this. Especially with your rant on the Knapford one. First off, it wasn't Gordon who started the Knapford incident, it was Thomas because he went with the "Lazy Gordon" insult first. And an insult is MINISCULE compared to derailing an express train in a large junction. Second, the reason Emily didn't stop at her signal is because THOMAS' signal turned red, and she DID try stopping when she saw Thomas run it! You're SUPPOSED to and EXPECTED to stop at a red signal, because that is basic railway laws and SAFETY! Third, why are you saying that the signalman should've held EMILY at a signal? She was already coming through, and the signal man had to let her pass because she was carrying a goods train, and the Express was still supposed to be stationary, because Thomas was late to get Gordon his coaches! So what would be the point of keeping her stopped at the junction, if the Express wouldn't come through said-junction for another half/hour? Gordon had to wait for the Express coaches to be coupled up to him, and wait for all his passengers to get aboard the train? Really, what would be the point of THAT. Not only that, but Thomas derailed and damaged an entire express train which, keep in mind, would've been expensive, and also delayed multiple trains, including the aforementioned Express. So do me a favour, and watch this scene in its entirety, ENTIRE, before jumping straight to conclusions. The second time, where is it full on shown that TFC didn't believe Thomas? Topham didn't even catch wind of Thomas saying that he found a ship in the cavern, because he had to send Thomas to be REPAIRED because he fell into said-cavern, so Topham didn't even hear about a supposed ship in the cavern until one of Rocky's crane operators possible discovered the ship after possibly trying to retrieve the rails and sleepers that fell into the cavern with Thomas. Oh and those would've been expensive, AGAIN. Not only that but Thomas caused TWO accidents in one day, and this one delayed the work on the Harwick extension! Third, Yes, Thomas did indeed save Ryan from the dynamite, but that only happened because THOMAS let Ryan take the bad coal out of spite, which caused the dynamite in his train to ignite! Not only that, but Thomas actually kind of was trying to hurt Ryan, because he let Ryan take on the coal, which results in coughing and spluttering, hell even Thomas knew about the bad coal because HE accidentally took some as well the day before! And before you even THINK about saying "hOw cOuLd'Ve ThOmAs KnOwN wHaT rYaN wAs CoLlEcTiNg", what Ryan is collecting is NOT his business, and Thomas should've warned Ryan about the bad coal REGARDLESS if the latter was collecting dynamite or NOT.He also wasted a train of dynamite which would've been, oh who would've thunk it, EXPENSIVE, and delayed work on the Harwick extension AGAIN. Besides, Topham got the whole story after the chase with Sailor John, because because Ryan told him, and he even PRAISED Thomas for it as well! So how about you just be happy that TFC actually GOT the story of what happened during the dynamite incident, instead of continuously whinging about Topham not knowing the whole story, even though he DID at the end, and praised Thomas for it! I strongly suggest that you watch the whole video, WHOLE, watch the Knapford scene in its entirety, actually you know what, watch the MOVIE in its entirety, instead of immediately jumping to conclusions that are either childish, stupid or completely BASS-ACKWARDS to what has actually happened in that scene. TFC was being serious because he is MEANT to be serious. He isn't a buffoon to be laughed at, he is an actual authority figure to be respected, and needs to set an example for his engines if they fuck up at something. He is literally doing his job and if you hate it when he is being an actual railway controller, you might as well say Series 1 to 5, the RWS and TGD suck because he is actually in character. It'd be shitty behaviour of course, but clearly you don't care if Topham does his job, go for it!

@@ThomastheGOAT1975 I agreed with what you said, but it was my opinion of what I think of Sir Topham Hatt cursing and yelling at Thomas. I appreciate of what you said and I thank you for telling me about it. The thing is I don’t appreciate the way Sir Topham Hatt’s tone of voice was to Thomas, and that made me feel very upset and mad at him for saying stuff to Thomas. I watched the movie Sodor Legend Of The Lost Treasure last year, and I think the movie went very well and fully understood of what exactly happened and why Thomas did all of this for nothing! Sir Topham Hatt was definitely being a jerk to Thomas for his actions, and it made me frustrated with him. There were questions on that movie that I think could’ve done better or add something to the movie like…. Marion and the crew standing up to Sir Topham Hatt and tell him what really happened. Dowager Hatt & his family would’ve yelled at him for being so harsh on Thomas and getting the little tank engine in trouble. Thomas standing up to Sir Topham Hatt and telling him about the issue and the situation. If Thomas is tried of Sir Topham Hatt’s yelling, would he leave Sodor for good. And, if Thomas learned his lessons in the first place would he promise to Sir Topham Hatt that if he promise not to be so cheeky and causing confusion and delay then would Thomas get his branch line back once again. Thomas definitely taught a valuable lesson about what he did throughout the movie, trying to prove that he’s a really useful engine, which he is not in the beginning of the movie. Sir Topham Hatt needs to understand of controlling emotions and anger to a person/engine, because if he’s yelling to an engine for something he or she didn’t do. Then, no one wants to talk to him the way he’s acting towards that guy. Thank you for your comment, I fully understood about it, and have a great long weekend.

Also, they could’ve added returning engines from the movie like Fergus, Boco, Bill & Ben, Harold, Lady, Diesel, Arry & Bert, Mavis, Rusty, Diesel 10, and many more

@@user-zm2or2ct9t I might just point out some things with your returning characters. Mavis, Rusty, Diesel, Bill and Ben, Harold and 'Arry and Bert were NOT on a hiatus, they appeared in the past two seasons BEFORE this movie came out, so trying to make THEM be returning characters would be next to pointless. Lady, oh hell no, we are not going to have a magical engine in this movie, Thomas is meant to be realistic. Diesel 10, eh, maybe if he's helping the pack clear away the rocks? Boco, I actually quite like the concept of that, it actually could work! Fergus would also be a cool addition, but I feel that him returning in Tale Of The Brave would be a bit better because Timothy is basically a less interesting Fergus, but him returning here would also be pretty cool.

@@user-zm2or2ct9t Now for the Topham thing. Where did Topham curse? "Thomas did all that for nothing!" Wdym. Thomas did WHAT for nothing, what is he doing for nothing, what is supposed to make sense out of that. "Marion and the pack should've stood up to Topham" Have you read the RWS, let alone watch the classic series? If a character/s have shut up about something, in this case, Marion and the pack, that means that they don't want to get in trouble as well. "Dowager Hatt and his family should've yelled at him" Mate are you kidding me, you going to go for that trope? "Thomas would leave Sodor for good" How f*cking ridiculous can your fanfictions get! Actually who am I kidding, you're probably one of those Deviantart users. "Topham needs to understand how to control anger and emotions". I think YOU need to understand that TFC had EVERY right to be as angry as he was as Thomas caused three major accidents, each one getting progressively worse; one was him derailing an expensive express train, blocking multiple lines, and nearly causing Emily to crash, second one was him taking a train of rails and sleepers, wasting them by dropping them into a cavern, and getting hurt HIMSELF by falling into the cavern, and the third one was him letting Ryan take bad coal, which ignites the dynamite, and Thomas almost unintentionally KILLS Ryan as he was shunting the train of dynamite towards him, and wasted the dynamite. Topham had his angry tone because he CARES about his engines, he CARES about their health and safety, Victor literally SAID to Thomas that Topham DOES care about him after Thomas said TFC replaced him, and I quote "That's not true! He wants you back on track as soon as possible!". Topham also learns the full story of the dynamite incident after the treasure chase, and LITERALLY SAYS TO THOMAS "There's nothing to be sorry about! I'm proud of you!". Topham when Thomas was causing the accidents doesn't need to control his anger, because all the accidents Thomas caused were expensive, harmful, and the third one was literally LETHAL, so don't you go saying TFC was being too harsh on Thomas, because he was completely justified, and don't go creating fanfictions just because you aren't happy with the fact that Topham's tone was apparently "too mean".
