The first wouldn't gain any of the fathers cambion traits, the second wouldn't gain any if the mothers dragon traits, the third was actually just a normal human getting both half human sides of his parents and the final would be my character. A levistus bloodline tiefling dragonic bloodline Sorcerer. He would learn his birth was planned out by levistus as an attempt to create someone powerful enough to free him from his icy prison. I think they call it Manteling, sort of like stepping into the title of the god
@mikehorne40533 жыл бұрын
@@jedediahcoulbourne1791 Mantleing is an Elder Scrolls thing AFAIK, usually when a god dies, either another, such as a demigod, will rise to take over the aspects of the other god (like a leader god of the forests taking over when a greater deity of nature dies) or if another god killed them they'll have first pick on what they take and what may be passed to be distributed among lesser deities. But, there is always a path to Godhood, trick is in finding it, and doing it a way that hasn't been done before, as most gods are going to try and stop you from pulling it off. They don't exactly like competition.
@edogohan3 жыл бұрын
Look only to midnight/mystra
@nightfall89z623 жыл бұрын
Well, it depends on how the deity perished. If it was because another deity killed them, then a mortal stepping into that deity's identity would likely turn out poorly as said mortal would immediately gain a deific enemy. Its also possible that a mortal taking the identity of a deity would drive the mortal insane. On the contrary, if a dead deity's consciousness, willingly chooses a mortal to bear its form it turns out well, i.e. the mystra situation mentioned above. Or it turns out well for the deity, said mortal eventually has their consciousness subsumed by the deity and ceases to exist i.e the deities bane or myrkul. So a mortal taking the identity of a deity, turns out very different for different mortals and situations. Essentially, if you find a deity's corpse and commune with its consciousness it is very possible to become that deity, it is equally possible to become insane or be utterly destroyed, depending on the disposition of the deity in question.
@zenvariety93833 жыл бұрын
@@nightfall89z62 Intriguing. Couldn't it also lead to the mortal adopting a blend of their original personality with that of the deity? Yet the personality change could be seen as the mortal going insane as they start claiming to have reincarnated.

I don't agree that being a transitory part of dimensional travel is its function. It's not the ocean's function to transport ships, nor is it a tree's function to become a table. The astral sea just so happens to be the ocean on our way to new places, as it were. Once again, great work. Keep it up.

Here's to hoping future D&D video games explore all of the this, the things you cover. Imagine how massive the game would be, not to mention popular, if it was BG3 level of care and content but expanding across all of the known places and planes in the universe. It would be the most popular game ever with insane levels of play time, a virtual never ending pool of new content to explore and discover. Of course the undertaking would be quite massive. Not just from the programming stand point or how much space the game requires to install but the dialogue alone would be mind boggling. There's a shit ton of things to try and account for. Honestly I don't think it's possible to create such a game, at least not in a time frame that won't drop it when we're all long gone and dead.

I do actually have a few questions i've been wondering about: Let's set the scene: my D&D character dies. What now? Normally, this means they're out of comission until someone revives them. But what if we, instead of a "fade to black", continue on? From what i know, my soul will enter the astral plane, and drift towards the color pool that corresponds to the outer plane that suits them the most, where they are reincarnated into an appropriate form: a petitioner, lemure, dretch ect... But... if my soul is in the astral, and creatures who plane shift into there are also pretty much just souls, and the astral is a place where you can move with only your mind, what's stopping me from acting? What if i just, as a soul, intentionally move towards a silver color pool, returning myself to the material plane? Is there anything stopping me from doing so? Is my soul unconscious during the transit? Will it wake up after 1d4 hours and gain the ability to act again? Do i, as a soul, keep my game statistics plus some extra benefits such as immortality and no need for food and water, like an Astral Projectin without the silver cord? Will i become a ghost when i go through a color pool to the material plane? Or will i become some kind of outsider creature with identical statistics to my former self, plus a few bonuses such as immortality ect... ? Will i transform into a Lemure if i were to enter the Nine Hells? What's stopping me from just cheating death? Furthermore, imagine this: A Lawful Good Paladin died, and his soul is on the astral, drifting towards the nearest color pool to Mt. Celestia. But a psychic wind sweeps his soul away before it could arrive there, sending it straight into the lower planes. Will he reincarnate as a lemure/dretch? Psychic Winds should by all means be able to affect drifting souls, and since they can throw unlucky travellers into color pools, there should, by all means, be situations where the souls of evil creatures arrive in the upper planes and vice versa. What happens in these situations? Will the good ones suffer the fate of heinous evildoers, while the evil ones get obliterated from existence? I'd really like to hear your and the comment sections thoughts on that matter. Was this topic ever considered in D&D lore? Are we threading on uncharted territory here?

The undead cloud at 9:56. Human being is like 40x30x200. For 2 cubic meter: 6 dodies. A cube of 10m: 3000 bodies. A cube of 100m: 3M bodies. A 1km of undead: 3 billion bodies. A cube of 10km: 3 trillion bodies (if it is tightly fit). Summary: You can pile up all bodies of a medieval planet and still won't get a mountain (less than 1km in height). If that cloud is of that size, it might be from multiple planets or a hundred.
