Another way the Wattrel line could tie into Paldea is how it's a possible reference to renewable wind energy, which you can see with Wattrel's dex entry that says that it produces electricity when its wings catch the wind, and with their signature ability that is literally called "Wind Power". Spain is one of the countries that generates the most wind power in the world, and was an early leader in its development, second to only Germany in Europe.

Oh! And it could also elude to how wind power is a major environmental killer, most notably in killing...you guessed it...birds! The other major environmental impact it has is that a lot of terraforming is necessary to construct massive wind farms, which displaces many animal nests in the process (more bird problems here too). Same thing goes for solar farms. The reason why it's necessary to build such wide-spanning wind/solar farms is because they're simply not efficient methods of harnessing electrical energy. Hence, a whole lot of turbines/panels are needed to justify the costs for constructing them.

Though, if that's the case, why are we still planning (throughout the world) on building more solar panel farms rather than funding for individual homes in prime locations? Regardless, even at an individual level, solar panel use is situational at best, depending on sun obstructions like tall trees, hillsides, or duration of daytime. Hence, it isn't a one-size-fits-all solution. Also, costs for individual solar installation can cost an arm and a leg for home owners. Sure, eventually you will be able to pay it off with the money you save. However, that still takes many years and will depend on what you can afford in the long term. Not to mention dealing with solar sales companies is a stone's throw away from being an MLM system if not already (i.e.paid-only-by-commision). With how expensive solar installation is, the solar panel sales industry is the new mattress store industry. For all of these reasons and more, I cannot recommend solar power to anyone. Oh, also solar panels have high reflectivity and the light gets intense towards the direction of reflection rather than dispersed, making them like giant magnifying glasses pointed towards the sky. So, yeah there's that as well....both an environmental and safety hazard. Makes maintenance dangerous to deal with, so do it at night when possible.

@@K3wlG33k (About the planning of solar farms) I think that's because companies from countries that don't have that much sun time, are funding these projects in countries where there have, that's happening in Spain with companies from northen Europe, its becoming a big problem to be honest. About the efficiency of solar panels, I live in the countryside, and there are small windmills to generate electricity for individual houses, most combine solar panels with these. Of course, in big cities I don't know if that could be done.

So, Wattrel's is called "Voltrel", which combines "volt" with "petrel". The word "volt" is the same in English and German, while "petral" already is an English word. Next up is Kilowattrel and it's German name is "Voltrean", once again combining "volt" with "petral", but also adding "Ozean", the German equivalent to "ocean". And yeah, that's it. I actually used a Kilowattrel in my team for Scarlet. Named her Sabiha, after the world's first woman fighter pilot. The rest of my team were: Vegas the Quaquaval Cap & Sickle the Scovillain (After capsaicin, what gives peppers their spice.) Masha the Tinkaton (Sounds like mashing, like with a hammer.) Janus the Farigiraf (After the two-headed Roman God of travel.) And Holly the Houndstone (After one of my grandparents' dogs. Whenever I use a dog Pokémon, I always name it after one of my family's dogs.)

"Salbador" is not a word in Spanish, but it is similar to "Salvador" with a V - it means "savior" when translated literally, and is a pretty common Spanish name. It's a cool name, but it doesn't really mean "dancer" - that would rather be "Bailarín", or "Bailón" (though the last one is more of a general 'person who dances' rather than a specialized dancer, and its use is more regional and less documented). What if they made a regional bird Pokemon with split evolution? Start with a baby chicken, and then have two evolutions. One would be based on domestic chickens, and not evolve further. The other would be based on wild game fowl, and then would evolve again, into a *chickenhawk*. And this 3-stage side of Pokemon line would be super effective against the 2-stage side.

Kilowattrel quickly rose to become my favourite regional bird Pokemon. Frigate Birds are cool as heck, so I was very happy to finally see one in Pokemon, especially with Electric being among my top 5 favourite types. The design might be a bit basic, but when you start off with a cool-ass bird like the frigate bird, you'd be hard-pressed to improve it without going overboard. I think the only thing I'd do to add onto it would be to add something more to its head, like extra feathers or such to call back to the pirate inspirations and their ostentatious hats.

I already fell in love with Kilowattrel upon revealed, yet this affirmed my appreciation. I enjoy the connections made to the skullduggery of frigatebirds to pirates and Spanish explorers (a.k.a. conquerers), along with the associations that storm petrels have to thunderstorms and thus to Wattrel, along with how both birds are known for long-distance travels across the oceans. Interesting that the Spanish were the first to coin the nickname "pirate bird". I do enjoy that you pointed out the genetic differences separating frigatebirds and petrels too. Certainly informative in how differently they respond to water. (At least it makes more sense than a remora into an octopus.) If and when I start a "Scarlet" file, I'll certainly make use of a Kilowattrel. :)

Actually we could count Wingull as a regional bird for Hoenn, it evolves at a similar level to tailow, its line used to have the same BST as the Tailow-line and it is actually catcheable in more locations and in earlier locations than Tailow.

Here in Hawaiʻi, we often see frigate birds cruising near shore whenever there's a storm system nearby. If you see a bunch of them flying above the beach and up towards the mountains, then you know there's some wild weather not too far away. That's why I figured Wattrel evolves into Kilowattrel: it's less about how they're related according to the evolutionary tree, but more to do with how they show themselves to humans on stormy days.

If lockstin ever makes a Capsakid and scorvillain video (my favourite paldean pokemon), here's a few tips from what I researched! This is less of a "they need to add this!" And more "hey, heres a few tips": -like grafaiai, Capsakid and scorvillain aren't native to paldea. Pepper plants are native to Mexico, buut... -spain and Mexico have a history of "trading", leading to Spain acquiring spices and peppers, while Mexico lost a culture! -plague doctors actually used those same peppers and spices in their masks, which warded off miasma (in alchemy, miasma is toxic gas) -capsakid's flower is not only a pepper flower, but a sun hat!(like the main character's) -Scorvillain's two faces are based on Greek masks, which used exaggerated features to appear more recognisable. This also let actor's play many roles in a play, like how scorvillain plays a happy and sad character!

It helped that it has some pretty good moves, I did have to spend some time team balancing to get it in there but the moment I saw it I knew it was going to be on my team. XD You Helix son of a JInx you actually snuck in a Twitch Plays Pokémon ref there and it was PERFECT! I do have to add I actually had seen a Frigate Bird before but in Final Fantasy Tactics! One of the more annoying enemies if you had no ranged spells or weapons because their movement squares could literally hit any height and almost the whole of the map. I never knew they were a real bird though. Incredible!

If you wonder why this mutual hatred: Pirates of piracy's Golden Age were between Europe and America, when the new continent was the Spanish (and Portuguese) territory and their main exportation was gold and silver. So we had Spanish ships filled with money that categorically refused anyone to approach America because the Pope said that the money was theirs. So, the other maritime powers of Europe, mainly France and England and also the Netherlands, hired privateers and the people in colonies of the West Indies say they wanna become pirates. And so all these people sack the galions, take the gold, and go. (You see what I did there? 👀) But don't worry for the Spanish, despite the pirates and privateers, Spanish still managed to bring back the money. So much gold and silver than Spanish inflation blew up, leading to their fall as one of the greatest powers of Europe for the rest of current history. :^D

Another connection! My brother's gf is from Venezuala, and she pointed out that these pokemon almost look exactly like troupials. The Venezuelan Troupial has almost the EXACT same black and yellow color scheme, and of course being from venezuala adds the connection to spain and thus Paldea. The habitat range for these troupials also borders Lake Maracaibo. The place thats deemed the most electrified place on earth, seeing more lightning strikes and thunderstorms than anywhere else! Pretty cool seeing these simularities as well attached to these pokemon

One of their inspiration based of their new talent being Wind Turbine makes me think they also have like elements of Wind Turbine. Especially those parks you can see on protected shores or waters not so far out. Also It’s nice to know I’m not the only one who thinks that they lack something, maybe some more piracy idea or maybe another evolution because this gen gave out a LOT of one stage evolution ? To me they look like they are wearing full body swimming/surfer suits with the slick black latex stuff with hints of yellow. And there was that one famous comedy French movie called Brice de Nice with like a surfer dude who couldn’t use its surf board and it’s color palette is Kilowattrel but inverted(Yellow with hints of black) Last thing, funny how they have a regional bird having design elements that ressemble the ideas of the legendary of this gen being goofy poofy sacks, I wonder if Kilowattrel could have had ideas of its pouch being a fake wheel that stays afloat on top of water/sky. Kilowattrel is my 3rd favorite pokemon from gen 9, behind Maushold and Palafin. Electric/ Flying is such a cool typing on any mon, and I love its abilities. Volt absorb is amazing in a casual playthrough and Competitive is incredible for online battles. What a phenomenally designed pokemon!!!!

Fun facts: bones are piezoelectric, so stress put on a bone can create electrical pulses. Also, the eye scars of this line could be based on lichtenberg figures. Basically when lightning hits a person, if the path is near the outer layers of the skin, the electric current will etch its way through the flesh and create a scar based on the path the current took

I've been confused for the longest time about people calling them Paldea's regional birds. Mostly because I'm so used to getting these birds on the first or second route of the game, and not at... level 25 on a random coast. You don't even meet Wattrel on the first beach areas (where you meet your Raidon for example, or that other place where you follow a river after the lighthouse and get on a small beach with Wigletts). If they're really meant to be THE region's bird... why aren't they available in early game in those places?

Because open world screwed up the early route thing. So, you have to determine the regional bird by which flying type bird Pokemon best matches past trends of regional birds and only the Wattrel line matches.

10:00 I did want to mention that Birds’ nest soup is a very controversial dish, as the harvesting of these nests (that take the bird a lot of time and energy to make) causes those birds to not be able to actually use those nests to lay their eggs. Thus these birds have been suffering from extensive population loss and are now endangered. There are synthetic replacements though, and most places use these in their dishes now. But, just in case, you should always ask before ordering it/even attending the restaurant if this is a practice you find inhumane.

Watched the whole vid. Very entertaining and informative. Loved learning about the petrol and frigate bird names and origins. Along with true facts about frigate birds and their flight. But, the thumbnail for this video..... Certainly peaked my interest as the video itself does make fun of the pokemon's evolution having a "sack" feature. So it's funny, but also bait for views. Nicely done.

Unironically Kilowattrel is probably one of my favorite Pokemon from this gen. I ended up using it in ALL by playthroughs because it's just so handy. It is an ideal in-game 'mon. I tried using other Electric and Flying Pokemon and none of them were as convenient to use as Kilowattrel. 10/10 basic Pokemon.
