Quick correction for 1:58! Endothermic creatures are those that can regulate their body temperature internally, such as by their metabolism, making them warm blooded. Ectothermic creatures are those that have to rely on external factors, such as the sun, to regulate their body temperature, making them cold blooded. From what I can tell, “exothermic” only refers to chemical reactions that produce heat, which would then be pared with endothermic reactions that absorb and store heat, which may be where that confusion came from.

Also, Druddigon is supposedly meant to symbolize the semi-ugly (but also kinda funny and cute, in an ugly-cute way) gargoyles that were often perched on cathedrals and castles. Of which there are MANY in Wales. Its head being a separate color to the rest of its body being in reference to its unfinished, unpolished state, like the mason who carved it couldn't be bothered to add more definition to the face, said it was good enough, and just unveiled it as is. Likewise, the whole endothermic thing applies to gargoyles in folklore too; if it's too cold out, or if it is during the night of a thunderstorm (and they get hit by thunderbolt midflight), then they become paralyzed, and fall to the earth, breaking into stone pieces on impact.

Apparently in Welsh, the "dd" double consonant is pronounced the same way as the "th" sound in "Mouth" or "Month." A good example of this is Blaidd from _Elden Ring_ , whose name is pronounced "BLAY- _th_ " as opposed to "BLAY- _duh_ ." Also the etymology of Blaidd is the Welsh word for "Wolf" so his name means... "Wolf the Half-Wolf." Redundancy. So, I always pronounced its name as "Druth- _Y_ -Gon." ... Hope that clarifies. 🤷

I don't. I hate the terrible humor. It's not funny, it's just cringe. I'm only here for the facts and information and lore. The humor constantly being mixed in is nothing but an annoyance that I have to tolerate in order to get what I truly want which is the educational information and theories and lore. The humor is like a irritating pebble in my mental shoe that I can't remove and just have to accept will always be there and there's nothing I can do to stop it. And as always, I'm always alone and always the only one who thinks contrarily to everybody else which makes me more and more resentful of humanity because I'm always alone in my beliefs and ways of thinking. With that in mind, Charizard was not the worst pick for Leon's ace, but an even more Welsh Dragon inspired Druddigon evo would have been better (though unlikely given it's not a particularly popular Mon). @@catherineholt1149 as Safurah points out, while that is true in the context you are referring to, in biology exothermic animals are ones that can’t generate their own heat, like reptiles. Mammals like humans are endothermic. So in this context the video got the two words mixed up.

Either I've been having false memories or this video gets the technical terms for warm-blooded and cold-blooded backwards. They're pretty similar-sounding, so it's understandable to mix them up. Also, now I'm picturing a druddigon getting eaten by a particularly melancholic mudbray. Thanks for that image.

I think Lockstin may have conflated two famous dragon-versus-Christian-saint stories in his summary of the George myth. The part where the princess throws a leash around the dragon's neck and leads it around seems derived from the legend of Saint Martha and the Tarrasque. In every version of the Saint George story I could find, George slays the dragon he fights.

3:10 I have a pet bearded dragon! They are so adorable. I have to say, you’re somewhat wrong. Beardie’s aren’t aggressive, but territorial. However, if you aren’t considered prey or a rival (such as a medium-large herbivore), it will ignore you. If you are massive, such as a human, it will be wary but will not attack even if you pick it up in the wild until all countermeasures fail. This is quite obvious with pet “Beardies”, who sometimes actually _enjoy_ being held. They are mostly insectivores, but majority will also happily dine on veggies and small fruit, as well as rodents big enough for them to chew (such as small rats used to feed snakes). But for 90% of the day, they will happily sit on their rock, in the sun, basking. The most recognizable feature on a bearded dragon, is, well, the beard! While other lizards may be able to puff out their chest, chin, and/or throat to make themselves appear larger, beardies are able to push it out and turn it deep black, which both warns the target and makes it appear larger. This is simply a defense mechanism, and should be taken as a warning to not get any closer (well, for animals. A human can get up close and it will run away instead of attacking). But the beard trick is actually a bit reminiscent of their cousin, the Frilled-neck lizard, which has massive frills that can pop out (like the dilophosaurus in Jurassic Park), but it is simply a defense mechanism to ward off attackers. It cannot spit venom or anything like that. But bearded dragons are part of the “dragon family”, or the “Amphibolurinae subfamily” which, as you can probably guess, is filled with many lizards that are nicknamed “dragon”. Though there are some exceptions to this family, such as the Frilled-neck Lizard or Thorny Devil. Most notably is the locations of these species. Being a subfamily, all these species are actually biologically super close. However, their habitats vary across the world. Most of them come from around Australia, but some are _native_ to southern USA/northern Mexico, Asia, and (I may be wrong) Europe. Somehow, these species which live so far away are extremely related to each other (still unable to usually produce viable offspring, but I am sure in super rare cases it can happen). But for druddigon, I’d say there are other reptiles that fit it better than the Bearded Dragon. I’m not a reptile expert, so I don’t know of many beyond Bearded Dragons, but there are plenty of species that are even spikier than the Bearded Dragon, such as the Horned Lizard (can shoot blood out of its eyes) and the Thorny Devil (is 90% spikes, 9% cuteness, 1% devil)

1:57 I think you got your definitions mixed up. Endothermic animals are warm-blooded, and can regulate their own body temperature. Exothermic is strictly a chemistry term. The word you're looking for is ectothermic; Ectothermic animals (like Druddigon) are cold-blooded, and must regulate their body temperature using external sources i.e. sunlight

The connection between thistles and Druddigon of all Pokémon feels really weird, especially since Druddigon’s origins are very defined. Druddigon is clearly based on gargoyles and rock monsters, aside from the obvious western dragon. It’s clear from its cave habitat, rocky, craggy appearance, and aversion to sunlight, a trait shared by many rock creatures. Its wings aren’t leaves, but are more rocks or stalactites, while attempting to keep the generic wing shape in mind.

If I may expand on the gargoyle idea, in the Gen 5 games, Druddigon is found in 3 places: Victory Road (which featured a castle underneath it), Dragonspiral Tower, and Opelucid Gym (which in the games, anime, and manga resembles a temple or possibly church). While the tower literally has Dragon in its name, the presence of guardian gargoyles on towers, temples/churches, and castles (especially underground ones for our cavern dragon buddy) are all fitting locations for the theme. In addition the craggy body and rock-hard head all support this idea. Definitely not the only point of inspiration though! Agamas and thistles are definitely part of it! Love it when Pokémon combines multiple concepts into one! I will say though, Game Freak certainly missed an opportunity to not give Druddigon ANY Grass moves in Gen 5 though. Needle Arm would have been perfect! Even in Sword and Shield, it STILL can’t gain any Grass moves via leveling, breeding, or tutoring. Weirdly enough, across Toxic, Sludge Bomb, Gunk Shot, and Poison Tail, they do have fair access to poison if they wanted. Maybe they are less thistle and more… poison oak? Eh?
