After a year of owning the Apex I decided to make a test bed. I learned revelations about frequencies. Nickels can be found at depth in 20 khz but copper pennies respond better to 15 khz. So now when I encounter a mini hoard I flip back and forth with those frequencies and move around until I get a clear signal on one of the targets. It gives clarity to the target ID.
