Probable reason for the high sales: Multiple console versions. 2006 & previous: On only 1 or 2 consoles. 2007: Only on 3 consoles. 2008: 6 Versions, including all the home consoles of the time.

The most obvious reason this game sold so well was because it was the first time all the consoles shared one game. In previous years they were splitting those sales amongst three different WWE franchises. In the years following, fans realized that the Nintendo version were cheap knock off compared to the PlayStation and Xbox versions. Also, the inclusions of the ECW roster and Jeff Hardy. Many fans were looking forward to finally play with Jeff Hardy again after six years. Also for the old ECW fans, it must’ve been awesome to play as guys like the Sandman or Sabu.

My heart breaks not only for myself, but for all of us who thought that 2008 would be an upgrade from 06-07. This was the first game I preordered and it wouldn't be until SVR 2011 that the game was fun again IMO. But the hype was crazy for this one for sure.

08 and 09 felt like it went back a couple steps but the SVR series ended strong with 10 and 11. I still think after SVR 11 the series never recovered.

More sales is not about the game quality. It is about advertising. Also more people have consoles now than before and the population is bigger. So those stats must come in to it as well. But overall I would say advertising has everything to do with game sales, not game quality.

I think ECW was a huge selling point …because that was definitely the reason why I bought it. I assumed it was going be like 07 but more content due to the additional roster

@Bale4Bond 24/7 mode and the GM mode had to be redone in three months, which couldn't have been easy because Lashley wasn't supposed to be the cover athlete; it would have been Benoit.

the only problems i had with these games are the repetitive 24/7 mode and the roster is too thin.Why the hell they made Eddie Guerrero,Sgt Slaughter, Hardcore Holly,Jim the Anvil exclusive to the handheld version.

I didn't really like this game at all. Story mode was nothing, gameplay was way too easy, GM mode made no sense. How ECW always beat me, I'll never know. All this game had was a good soundtrack.

The 24/7 mode in SVR 2008 was a mode that I would play for hours and hours that is missing in todays current games that’s one reason I always say I wanna see something like a season mode or Road to WrestleMania… MyRise has gone on for too long in my opinion

@@KevinPlayz4593 rtwm was good. 24/7 mode starts off well but then gets very repetitive on the cut scenes, storylines etc. No way of moving to ECW in that as well. You also got the same storylines no matter what brand you were on. Only difference is when you're the champion

I’m not out here saying it’s the “perfect mode” but I just remember playing it for hours upon hours nowadays I touch a 2K game and once it’s done it’s done it has no replay value to me whereas old games it felt like I could play forever but maybe it’s because I was younger then idk

Completely false. He was the new star Paul heyman wanted to create on ECW because you couldn't rely on the originals forever and they weren't seen as top guys in the WWE world. Vince famously put pay to those plans at December to Dismember

Regardless of one's opinion, what you mentioned has been stated ad nauseam, by multiple parties involved. I don't know why people choose to stick their heads in the sand at that and try to rewrite history. Whether or not ECW with Punk at the helm would've been a success is one thing to bicker about, but it just feels flat out dishonest to ignore that Heyman wanted to make Punk "the guy" in ECW and that Vince cut Heyman's legs out from under him for a multitude of reasons.
